Nice video! I started using Linux for the first time when I bought a Toshiba NB100. The netbook came with Windows XP pre-installed but since that was a disaster, I decided to try out Ubuntu Netbook Edition (early Unity desktop). Not long after that I "switched" sides :D

Curious, did you reboot the Mint installation (about 5 times for all to settle) before clocking the boot time? It takes longer after a fresh install right away. The Spydows was already there and used some at the start, right.

I had a MSI netbook with similar specs and I did try repurposing on Lubuntu but it was simply not usable. Ended up getting rid of it.

@@MrJ0mmy oh, I've done so but you still have to save your session at logoff 'cause Puppy loads into ram regardless if whether it's on an external drive or internal HDD. Booting from ram is part of why it's so highly responsive.

MrJ0mmy switched to Puppy and now I can finally run YouTube. Its a really great distro , but for day to day productivity I have Linux lite 3.8 installed since it runs off the HDD and I don't have to save my session at every log off, meaning that if I have a power failure I don't have to worry about losing my data.

Dug up my old Aspire One when moving. That little thing couldn't do YouTube when brand new. But I plan on installing a system without GUI and maybe use it as a lab computer for batch calculations.

I have a Gateway LT-21 series netbook from 2009 that was slow as molasses with Windows 7 Starter. A few years ago, I popped in an SSD, a stick of 2GB RAM, and installed Linux Mint. The machine is totally usable for basic computing tasks. I still carry it around with me occasionally as my beater PC. Not the fastest machine, but I looooove the form factor. I wish I could get a modern netbook with an i5 or i7.

Is this the first ever startup? Maybe the first time is slower?
On the side note I have an eeepc 901, it also have n270, I put 2gb ram, not that it changed anything. Currently I have lubuntu on it, it's ok. Work can be done on it. It's not perfect, the CPU itself is not perfect, so it is unavoidable

A friend just gave me their N310 Samsung, same blue, and here it is 2021, talk about oldie. This thing does have a partion (can't imagine 2 drives in it) yet there are no files anywhere on it that speak of someone having used it, and it is impeccably clean, go figure. With win 7 starter I would rather install Linux. I just am unsure of what one to use and your's was the only vid that addressed this issue in a more current time. Decades ago I built Novell servers and have built my own PCs but netbooks, I'd never actually seen one before now. I have no idea how different from a Laptop it is. I would guess power. Just looking for a little bit of guidance. I am behind the times in my knowledge on tech but I'm not skeered of tech. Thank you.

@@Kyjorei Thank you for the quick reply. In all honesty, I haven't a clue what I would do with it. I am a PC user, haven't had a laptop in years. I do graphics, but not under the illusion that this would permit me to work on anything. I use Gimp and Inkscape. Maybe just as something to watch YT on in bed. I've never used an ISO before, either. I'd be working with a USB drive. Thanks again.
