Most unity3D games i have tested in proton/wine use all the cores and perform really bad with ryzen. Disabling SMT will fix that. #1 Disable SMT https://pastebin.com/r5ubB9Wd #2 Start your game #3 Enable SMT https://pastebin.com/9GksyhqJ ---- Mastodon: https://mastodon.social/users/xpander69 Twitter: https://twitter.com/Xpander69 Website: http://warlords.planet.ee ---- Recorded with:OBS (nvenc 1440p60, CQP 15, Preset Max Quality) Edited with: kdenlive (x264/mp4, 1440p60, Quality 15, Audio(Vorbis) 7) Intro: by user colonelkoik System Specs: Processor:AMD Ryzen 7 1700X @3.9Ghz Memory:32 GB DDR4 @3066mhz CL14 Video Card:Zotac 1080Ti AMP! Is this because of Wine or because of the Unity Game Engine? Seeing as Wine doesn't appear to experience these kinds of problems with other game engines I assume that Unity is the root of the problem but like I say, I don't know, which is why I am asking :)

@@LND3947 i speculated that maybe wine doesn't understand what is SMT and it just counts all the threads as logical cores and unity just picks it up but then there are stalls everywhere or something along those lines, but di don't know for sure. Other Games and game engines might just read the CPU info differently.

@@xpander69 I find it strange that it only effects Wine, I'm just wondering if maybe it doesn't effect Windows due to some proprietary DLL or something of the sort that Microsoft have done because the Unity engine isn't suitable if it was not for the fix that Microsoft may or may not have implemented

So far seems like unity+wine issue only. unity native games are not affected at least the ones i tested and haven't seen any other game engine in wine behave like this yet, but ofc more testing is required.

For me it occurs on Windows too. I use Windows 10 with Ryzen 1700 and the only game that have this problem runs at Unity Engine. The game is Horizon Chase Turbo, and only works flawlessly if i turn OFF the SMT or if i limit the game at 1 Core + 1 Thread. Tried various combinations like , 2C+2T, 2C+0T, 3C+3T, 3C+0T 4C+4T, 4C+0T... But the only one that run smooth is 1C+1T aka 1C/2T. But the problem is, what will happen if i test more CPU bound Unity game ? I decided to test this because of your video. Thanks.

This is a Unity issue since it happens in Windows as well. I wrote a mod for Subnautica that effectively disables HT/SMT among other configurable performance tweaks and in some cases the frame rate doubles. https://www.nexusmods.com/subnautica/mods/389

NOTE! This will only work if you aren't GPU bound in those games (lower end GPUs will get bottlenecked first)
