Performance is terrible as of now.
without recording.

2560x1440, lowest settings 5-20 fps, epic settings 5-20 fps

High settings 15-30 fps ( somehow high settings is the best)

GPU pretty much constantly 100% load

Native client is in the works, as developers have confirmed, so better to wait for this i guess.

on linux?`also worth noting that this is 2560x1440. and theres something wrong with the game engine or steam play as i get higher fps with settings set to High than on medium or low

Did you try setting your cpu scheduler to schedutil? Go through "man mount" to find and apply the fastest options to ext4? Enable zswap or zram? SSD is usually fastest with noop unless you're frequently hammering it. Same reason net admin advisors recommend against using packet prioritization except on congested nodes. Otherwise it just adds its own delays.

I at least have the advantage of a compressed in RAM swap per CPU core and partition mount options to significantly reduce storage IO. People report improved performance of some, but not all, Windows only games when run on their favorite Linux distro. I'm not sure they are even aware of all of the acceleration options I use, except some use an alternate kernel that improves responsiveness and I don't.

CPU shouldnt be an issue for this game as it doesnt use much cores anyway. Singlethread perf will count though. GPU is the main thing and playing on windows with this GPU i think its all low and 720p or 900p or something or resolution scale is really down. with wine+dxvk theres some more overhead so you will not enjoy this. This game can be played on regular SSD just fine, i also have 45+ FPS when i set it down to 1080p, but yeah, its not great still

I take it though this might be one of those games that needs a high end NVMe to take care of those chops. I wonder if that's due to loading a huge amount of assets from storage all at once.

That sucks. I'm debating on that vs an R5 2600. I'm not sure I can get enough better GPU for that same cost. Some people are playing it with a 750 ti but on Windows with a weaker CPU and lower resolution.
