I think you can use Lutris Origin script to do that, if you are inexperienced with scripts and setting up wineprefixes manually

Wow, no stutter at all! Mine stutters all the time, even on low, I suspect it has to do with shader cache.

Disable the origin in game thingy. Reduced stutter for me. But right now EAC is blocking the game anyway.

@@xpander69 Maybe you can get it when it goes on $5-$10 on sale. At least to play it's awesome single player. It still has a healthy community and with Apex Legends, there are a lot more players online.

Don't even bother atm, EAC broke it. So its currently not working at all. Theres no install tutorial needed though, use Lutris and install Origin via that and then install the game, but yeah you cant play it atm

What is the difference between running on wine and kmv passthrough? Like I isn't wine really poor for performance or is it about the same as passthrough? I wanna switch to linux fully but I don't know how I would be able to play all the games I play now performance wise so just asking sorry if im big beta.

Just try. Wine usually have very good performance. There are few cases where windows game on wine outperforms running it natively on windows. KVM passhthtough is a bit mess to setup and usually requires two gpus or sr-iov.

@@skylerfincham4666 you can use 1 gpu with vm yeah, but its not passthrough then and its performance is really bad. if you have integrated gpu, you could use that for host and then your dedicated for passthrough. looking glass afaik is just to allow the mouse/monitor switch between different GPUs with tiny added latency.

@@xpander69 Are we at a point though were with 1 gpu you could use a vm and only use that one. I know you could use looking glass for one monitor but I'm not sure. Otherwise one would have to stick with wine as they wouldn't be able to use the vm properly am i correct or no sorry for question.

Passthrough requires you to install windows in a virtual environment, maintaining this OS, having 2 GPUs, using more resources. Its in my opinion allmost same as dualbooting, you still have to deal with that windows OS. Performance in wine, with dxvk is mostly around 90% of the performance of windows on the same hardware. That being said, if you have really weak CPU then the cap can be bigger ofc

Yes, Installed Origin, Downloaded the game (it froze 2 times during download, so restarted Origin twice), started the game, it minimized itself constantly, added -windowed -noborder to origin launch options for the game and started playing. But can't play anymore since EAC update.

sorry, no idea about macs. Make sure you use wine-staging, not regular wine. Also Apex Legends currently doesn't work due EAC

This is the proof we have that Apex Legends can indeed work on Linux with Windows Compatibility Tools at high framerates that are completely playable. So if somebody were to make an excuse of, "You can't game on linux". The proof is right here. The only problem with linux gaming we have now is DRM and Certain anti cheat software. Hopefully as time moves on, this wont be an issue any more.

i mean great... But 60 fps is not playable needs at least 144 to keep up with your display... I get twice this frame rate with a normal 1080 on windows and I'm using reshade post processing injection as well.

Yeah well it doesn't even work anymore but it was way more than 60 FPS last time it worked. The video is quite old and also recording kills perf. There are lots of driver improvements, wine and dxvk improvements since then

Yeah, but that doesnt work like that in the Real world. Also Mac OpenGL support is really old.. 4.1 only afaik, which doesnt have all the performance benefits opengl 4.5 or 4.6 have. Rendering is the small part to port games, well its not small part but there are lot more things, like audio APIs and so on. Wine is wonderful thing and now with the help of DXVK which translates directX11 to Vulkan, performance is amazing also. Just need the Anti Cheat support and other minor things to be able to play most of the games.

I've seen a lot of Mac versions for games, which would be using OpenGL which is Linux and Mac compatible. If they can changed a few thing for the Mac versions, that could totally work. Game developers in general.

They do not port.. or who you mean? EA doesn't care about linux, nor is there Origin Linux client. Valve is working with EAC devs to bring EAC to wine/proton, so theres hope we can play this game some time in the future when the work has been done. Also EAC has native linux builds, just the problem is with wine.
