Dxvk really is an awesome project. But, isn't it risky to use in a online game such as wow ? I mean, there was reports of linux users being banned in the past (a false positive in diablo 3 from what I recall); Even if blizzard eventually left the ban, it's probably unsafe to use dxvk right now, isn't ?

This happened in 2012, I think. I assure you that I got banned by using PlayOnLinux to get running Diablo 3 under Ubuntu. Warden flagged me and got insta banned the next day. That was for no more than 10 minutes trying the performance on Ubuntu. No way I could prove myself innocent against the mightly Blizz.

I think wine devs and dxvk project devs should work together instead of wine devs reinventing the wheel. Working together is the key to improve wine and dxvk whole lot faster and make it even more awesome project.

yes, its possible to get banned in theory. Never heard of it happening except in the past some diablo 3 gamers which later turned to be out that were just cheaters that wanted to cover themselves behind wine... anyway its not 100% risk free for sure.

How did you get WoW to run? For me it always ends in a black screen... Only the Beta seems to work fine. Do you have dxup installed too?

start without battlnet. starting from battlnet results black screen. someone said that you need to disable recording from battlnet, but i dunno what that is

Is there a step by step tutorial for doing building the dxvk. I am new to linux and a little lost. I have wow working in with wine pba, but would like to learn more about the dxvk project.

i don't use Lutris, using my own built wine and just scripts to start it, so no idea about Lutris really

Thanks again for your help, I have the latest 396.24 drivers installed. I was using the Lutris install directory to apply this by replacing the d3d11.dll and dxgi.dll files in the syswow64 file, changed the staging to staging-3.7. I added the libraries to the wincfg and set them to native and then added the environment variable DXVK_FAKE_DX10_SUPPORT=1 and DXVK_HUD=devinfo,fps to the lutris info. This managed to get the game to run and show the HUD but then just hung and locked out my PC. I will see if I can work it out. Did you change the files from the lutris install or did you install it without lutris?

PC lockup seems like driver issue for me, what GPU? what drivers? if nvidia, make sure you use the latest 396.24 at least or if you want the beta ones then 396.18.08

Thanks for the info, I copied the files over and using staging 3.7, got the game to start, but then it just hangs and locks up my PC. Not sure what I done wrong, may just need to go back to the simple way.

if you have recent enough wine, 3.6+ then you can just pull the dll's and apply them to the wineprefix you are using. read this: https://haagch.frickel.club/files/dxvk/README.txt
