you should probably check level1techs channel or lurk in their forums. I know that their host Wendell loves linux and uses pci passthrough for some gaming and they recently also got ryzen cpus.. worth checking out if you into this

Haha sure, I can understand this. Ubuntu can also be used as the guest OS with a passed through GPU. I am thinking about using RYZEN for my next server, yet I'd need to know if PCI passthrough works. It can also be a NIC or SATA extender that is passed through.

for pure gaming performance i7 kaby lakes seem better, but for productivity tasks, rendering, using gimp etc ryzen really shines.. also streaming. what i have seen so far is that the framerates arent as high as with i7's but minimum framerates are really good which makes the experience super good.. i have some benchmarks coming up soon.

motherboard led? the thing i turned off :D sadly motherboard led can be only turned on or off in the UEFI, and its going through several colors with breathing effect. this cannot be changed to single color or similar yet. Memory Leds are just white and breathing as well.. i will probably tape them to not annoy me :D not fan of RGB much :D i can probably make short video for you if you really want this, but might take some time before i get into this

i made a typo in my notification its 2x8GB not 16... but its CMU16GX4M2C3200C16 - i already managed to get it to 2933mhz, still cant get it running at 3200.. need to wait for some bios updates i guess

Ryzen 1700 non-X version comes with a cooler out of box and thermal paste applied on the cooler. This one did not. This fan is really good, quiet and keeps the CPU cooled
