That wasn't really the point of the video - other people have videos of that on Youtube. This is for those interested in seeing how it fares on the same platform with two different methods of playing.

tried it on my amd laptop and it didn't work. the pcgamingwiki has an entry on how to fix it, you just need to download a file and drop it into the install folder. fixed it for me.

@ARTOFMUSIC its not that piss poor, back in the days when it was released for linux, there weren't many options. OpenGL probably is one of the issues and other thing is that there were just 2 inexperienced linux guys who did all the work, so i wouldnt call it total piss poor. it was acceptable back in those days. But nowadays we demand much more :)

I don't have Windows, true, but generaly expect 10-15% more performance there. with rare cases where the performance can match or be a lot worse. This Benchmark was to compare the native version we have to the option to use windows version via proton.

no hitching, its essentially just install, play, tested 3 spots for fps with recording on and off to see how much impact recording does and then just ran it. no huge stutters

@@xpander69 Yes, CA is indeed disabled and doesn't show on the videos (at least I don't see it anywhere), yet the difference in tint is still there on the DXVK side, for whatever reason. As for perf, yes, too bad Vulkan wasn't around when they ported the game. The difference is significant.

uhh but i dont see those ugly colored outlines on trees and buildings, like there are when CA is enabled. Its bizarre, anyway the point still is valid, perf sucks on native one compared to proton

@@xpander69 There is a difference though (apart from the time of day), the DXVK side has that green-yellowish effect (forgot how is called). On the Linux port that green/yellow tint seems to be tied to the CA settings, but you have CA disabled on both versions, so not sure why is present only on the DXVK side.

No it does not. It looks same. The difference is the time of the day only. cause i had to run to the same spot to start doing same run and the time of the day changed

@@xpander69 I agree, the graph is the same. This proves how opengl sucks the dxvk running through wine has practically double the performance of the native version of línux, this game is the version of línux, and I downloaded the version of windows, and I just abandoned the version of this games. only play the windows version. in tomb raider 2013 de línux is even worse. the difference is more than 30 frames of improvement with the dxvk without any drop. already the native version of línux has 30 frames less and has moments that the game drops to 30 fps really opengl is very bad.

no, its different time of the day, you can see it where the shadows and sun is. I had to run to the same spot on both times but the time of the day was different.

it doesn't change the fact about performance difference. and they look the same during the same time. Go and run it yourself, you will see. I just couldnt match exact same time of the day because i had to run to the same spot both of the times and missed some time on one or other.

For me, yes. Proton does have some input lag, but it can be solved with a custom kernel. You can choose between Liquorix (my option), Xanmod, or Zen. Each has their own advantages, but I choose Liquorix because it does help delayed I/O.

Can't remember having issue with that. I have 1000hz polling rate mouse with acceleration disabled on my distro, then again there still might be some difference as wine might do something with it, but personally i havent noticed the difference.

native is older port, uses opengl. Not very optimized. proton uses directx to vulkan translation and yields better results as the directx11 renderer was probably more optimized than opengl and on top of that vulkan is low level API, which allows to tweak it even more i guess.

Yeah its pretty much happening with most OpenGL games where theres a lot of Crowd/AI on the screen to calculate. its all CPU Bottlenecked with just few threads being used.

That happens a lot. since linux userbase is tiny, nobody really optimized the opengl much i guess. Most bigger game releases were like that on linux. Native almost always performs worse than with proton with very few exceptions.
