I opened a helpdesk ticket with Steam and well... if you are not running Ubuntu with a desktop environment other than Unity, Gnome or KDE they will not provide any support. I did however install Ubuntu in a VM, tested and found that the game installed fine with that distro. I want to say that my issue is either specifically related to my Budgie desktop environment or my distro Solus OS in general. Anyhow, thought you would appreciate the followup.

Xpander69 The only thing I can think of is I purchased the game on my work computer running Win10.. later tried installing on my daily driver computer running Solus OS.. but I don't know why it would matter. The only other Linux platform games I've had issues with and have never been able to play is System Shock 2 and Devil Daggers (crashes on start up).. I've tried editing the video configurations with no luck. Anyhow, what's the best way to contact Steam about my specific issue? I hear their customer service is terrible.

z4xarhis i bought from steam store as well and it installed without issues. have you had similar problems with any other games? anyway try to contact with them hopefully it gets resolved quickly.

Xpander69 Thanks for the reply, I really enjoy your videos. I purchased from the Steam Store and would not install via the Steam app and I also tried installing using SteamCMD.

from where you bought it? maybe they haven't marked all the "keys" to the linux client yet. aka when you bought it from outside of steam somewhere... in any way..you should contact them about it.. if you already did then wait a bit..it was a weekend :)

Bought it on sale on Gog, but I got really disappointed: on my PC (Manjaro + Kernel 4.14.2 + AMD A10 7850K + Radeon 7850 1GB + 16GB RAM + Mesa 17.2.5 + radeonsi) at 1080p I got less than 30 FPS with Low graphics settings. In the zone you show at 3:12 framerate dropped to 8 FPS and after a bit my system crashed (not just the game, but the complete system!)

You are right about CPU/GPU. Tried the game under Windows and the difference is abysmal: at 1080p and Low graphics settings the game runs smooth and is very responsive (I killed enemies very easily). Replayed the levels I already reached under Linux and Windows wins the comparison hands down. Setting graphics to "default" the game slows down a lot (30%-40% less than at Low): I think that all the light sources are too much for my CPU.

unity games tend to love lots of Vram, and your GPU has only 1GB, but at 720p that shouldnt be such a huge limitation still. i Bet its partly due to poor singlethread performance that you CPU has. every i5 from the sandy bridge and up will beat that CPU in singlethread scenarios sadly. And OpenGL games under linux are quite singlethread bound, ofc some use 2 cores or more also.

Yes, absolutely sure I'm running on my discrete GPU. I tried again lowering resolution to 720p, is of course better but I think the problem is in the Unity engine. All Unity games run very badly on my PC under Linux. Also performance degrades with time. I should try how this game runs under Windows.

sadly your CPU is pretty weak for the game like this and your GPU is probably not the best also but should in theory handle it a bit better with the better CPU. Are you sure you are running this with your dedicated GPU instead of the weaker APU?
