wine 1.4 rc4 raw input patched (raw input patch probably not needed for this game) http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=25500 i cut out most of the important story in the video to not spoil much. ------- http://www.masseffect.com/ Mass Effect 3 is an action role-playing game developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Officially announced on December 11, 2010. the game was released March 6, 2012(today) and marks the final chapter in the Mass Effect trilogy of video games, completing the story of Commander Shepard. Gameplay in Mass Effect 3 is influenced by decisions from Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 and have settings throughout the galaxy, including Earth and Mars. A four player multiplayer co-op mode will also be available. @AlmostAGamer not really... try registry tweak "UseGLSL disabled" gives a good perf boost ..video is 24 frames per second. but game itself runs well above that..few drops only when lots of crowd seen in the distance

lol?...well mint 12 default user interface is pretty bad yes. but im using MATE deskop environment.. which will probably be the default for mint 13 or mint debian. to install wine is just 2 clicks. and linux is ready for nomal computer users. its even easier to install apps than seaching from internet for windows. just few clicks away are basically all apps. yes gaming is not so good yet...but we are reaching there

probably way higher than natively on windows. a good nvidia card (GTX 280, GTX460 or 560 and up) should be enaugh and some decent gaming CPU also and few Gigs of free ram might get it working with lower specs also but i think the framerate will be pretty bad, unless you run it in low resolution.

well mass effect 3 ran high quality without problems (dont mind the recorder hickups in the video).. but i agree with u, if u ran it with GT520MX at 60 fps then yeah.. i think mine wasnt 60 fps..but well over 30 for sure with a GTX 560TI that is. some games run without perf hit. some run with huge hit and so on. generally i think u loose about 20-30% of performance due the wine's directx to opengl translation

its not that simple. directx is owned by microsoft and is not opensourced. so u cannot take it and use it in linux directly. it would be better if game developers start using crossplatform from the start. opengl, openal and stuff like that. wont happen any time soon.. however steam is rumored to come to linux this year..with all the valve games + many indies..so theres light at the end of the tunnel.

Congratulations, last time I saw games running on wine, they weren't as good as this one. But, tell you what, no matter what system you run this game, the ending still sucks xD I might try to run it in ubuntu 12.04 if I manage to get my hd 6870 working. I'll subscribe to see more of your videos.

ati cards arent so good to run games via wine..some games will work good..but many have all kinds of nasty bugs due the bad opengl drivers of theirs. ohh and btw i still havent completed the game:D..im on the last mission there..but i dont really want to ruin the experience for me..since i hear that ending sucks:D

Always nice to see future Canada get mauled in video games...Even, to see Canada or anywhere not-US on earth in sci-fi games...or Earth, even. Also, I'd recommend that you give a more recent version of wine a try mate, 1.5x doesn't need too much fiddling around at all to get ME3 working...Although, given current problems with Origin, you might want to crack the game first.

Mass Effect 3 really isn't too demanding, compared to games like the Witcher 2. I have a gtx260 and had no trouble running it with a quad core AMD cpu and Ubuntu 12.04 64 bit. Being a console port, the game really doesn't have all the graphical bells and whistles. Also, I think wine is pretty decent as far as performance goes these days. That's just my observation, but I do play quite a few games.

Its not FRAPS is any good either lol. But how many FPS do you get without recording? I have a card which an AMD equivalent to the 560Ti..6870. I was wondering if Wine is more CPU heavy? cuz i have shit CPU. Core2Quad Q8200 2.33Ghz.

i dont know exact numbers but it was quite smooth, more than 30 fps for sure. in some rare places it had few drops where a big distance was rendered. wine is more cpu heavy indeed. but im afraid ur problem will be the amd card probably, the lack of good linux drivers from their part.

I think AMD has started official linux support since last 2 months I guess. I did see the option of linux drivers and catalyst control center on their website. Not tried it though. Anyways unless I get a decent CPU m gonna have to stick with windows I am afraid. Wish Linux would get more and more native games.

they are supporting linux quite some time with their drivers, but unfortunately their drivers are known to have poor opengl performance and poor wine compatibility. linux will get more native games in the near future, Valves steam is currently in closed beta for linux

Yea but the advent of steam is just a start...what steam will do in linux is give devs a standard platform to put out their games for customers instead of each distro having its own software center. But that won't make big guns like Rockstar, Ubisoft, Sega, Capcom etc to make their games for Linux. EA and Activision might do it cuz they have their games on Mac meaning they have some exp with OpenGL standards. But most dont know opengl that well or just too greedy to care for linux users :(

virtualbox is slower in most cases and it has poord 3D support. wine is defenately better for that. AMD Cpu wont slow u down if u have decent one enough. AMD gpu might be the problem if u have one.. their drivers seem to not work well with wine and under linux.

cpu is more than enough to play games under linux with fine performance. if ur video card is mid or high end then it should be enough also. lets say if u have nvidia 280 or 550+ or 650+ or similar.

AMD CPU is fine. if u play on 1920x1080 and up resolutions, most games are GPU bouind anyway then, so it doesnt make much difference in gaming when AMD or Intel cpu then. just AMD cpus are 2x cheaper. thats what counts for me. AMD GPUs quite suck due driver issues. and yeah i dont have 10k rpm HDD. GTX 560TI is stil lfine for todays games, it isnt very powerfull but its not weak also. bought my stuff 2 years ago.. i usualy upgrade after every 3-4 years..so i have some time to play some more:D

not really, check the tek syndicate benchmarks. in gaming it doesnt really matter that much. and 8350 is really good when u do screencast (game recording) cause more cores. those AIDA benchmarks are nothing to me. for me its important to have good framrate in games with highest settings and maximum resolution as well as to be able to record the gameplay at the same time.

its not laggy at all actually. i do have 955 x4 atm (planning to get 8350) and when recording it pulls the framrate down because of not enough free cores for screencasting. game itself runs superbly under linux, specially when you do useGLSL disable registry tweak

depending which games. check tek syndicate tests..they tested many games and 8350 is comparable with 3770 in some cases. im not a fanboy of any company, but i like to get most bang per buck, and since here in estonia amd cpu's are lot cheaper than intel ones while getting similar results in gaming, im going to go for amd

i doubt haswell or new gtx lineup improves performance much. its wine's directx to opengl translation thats the bottleneck. Most todays CPU's will do just fine for such a old game and with wine's limitations, you dont really need haswell for that.. haswell only has 5-10% perf boost on the CPU side compared to the old ones, so its not really usable and they all have integrated GPU which is troublesome in linux when using dedicated nvidia gfx
