try to start directly from Borderlands2.exe
launcher uses .NET 4 which is troublesome in wine

Gamers gate has it also, hence the question. so you installed BL2 simply buying it on steam and installing it on steam and then letting launcher do the post installation?

clean install .
u dont have to use launcher. u can bypass it with the following from steam forums:
"Create a .txt file in notepad and write the numbers '49520' without the ' '. Save it as 'steam_appid.txt' and save it in your Steam directory 'Steam\steamapps\common\Borderlands 2\Binaries\Win32' and run Borderlands2.exe"

i dont think so. integrated videocards from intel dont have the performance for gaming. also the situation with intel drivers on linux isn't that good, but its improving slowly.
u would need a dedicated videocard for this game... u can always try...too bad the game doesnt have demo to try out if u can run it.

with radeon(ati/amd cards) it will be hard. cuz the situation of their drivers isnt the best for gaming with wine. u might have success with those games but u might not.. its better to have some nvidia card if u want to play windows games under linux.. other than that.. sc2, torchlight 2 and diablo 3 running fine under linux. i have played diablo3 and tl2 also videos on my channel. havent tested path of exile

what drivers u have? did you install "additional drivers" or i dunno how they called under ubuntu now. with opensource drivers u wont game much atm.. i think thats the issue.. and if u are using unity desktop with ubuntu then that is droping pefromance also.

Awesome! There are hope for me here ;) But I played it with bad results :( Very lag performance and sound issues. Maybe a non clean prefix? (only with L4D2)
AMD Phenom II X4 965 and Gigabyte GTX 460 OC.
Propietary Nvidia drivers 310 by "Additional drivers" tool.
Kubuntu 12.04
Thank you so much for the video, awesome work!

maybe.. alltho i dont have clean wineprefix also. its a ~5 year old prefix i use.
u can try winetricks glsl-disable ..that should give some boost.
and also make sure ur cpu is forced to performance instead of ondemand option.

it should be pretty decent rig. specialy when i replace ur CPU. i think it should run quite fine.
and old save games should be synced by steam. otherwise u can just copy the save games folder to linux.

mint is based on ubuntu. 14 is based on ubuntu 12.10 and 13 is based on 12.04. so not really much difference except mint is somewhat more userfriendly in terms of desktop.
from where did u install wine? did u add the wine ppa? try installing it via terminal and see that the error is.

wine "/blabla/ursteam/location/Steam/steamapps/common/Borderlands 2/Binaries/Win32/Borderlands2.exe"

Damn, looks like I´ve been blind for so many years, I just learn about all Linux pros a month ago. Its kinda hard to learn and use a software you dont know. Been using Windows for about 10 years or so... dont get me wrong, for some reason I´ve never heard about Linux... looks like Its more user friendly now, I might take some Linux classes next year :)
Thanks for the video. I´ve even thought PC gaming was not an option. The Idiots at Machinima said that. Guess they hardly know about It.

you dont loose... your saves are synced with steam cloud... and it doesnt mean if you have mint or what ever linux distro.. you just need good videocard drivers and proper setup to make it work..thatswhy im saying that you should go to those forums to get some more info about debugging your problems and stuff like that

hey, i havent tested this game with and without CSMT.. it all depends what hardware you have... if your cpu is low frequency or limited singlethread perf then CSMT helps a ton.. if you CPU has high frequency and is really good at singlethreading then you wont notice the difference probably
