go to the synaptic and search for the kernel with name lowlatency at the end. easy as that.

When I start I get a very distorted background. Not character models, mind you, background. And POL won't let me select "textex" only "readtex"

you can try to change it from the registry editor in POL (allthough like i heard textex does not excist anymore) but it somehow fixed the distortion for me
