@ while not knowing your distro you might want to check if you have 32bit gnutls package installed as well as check the ping range. check into RoR forums Linux Thread under technical section. Theres some troubleshooting info

@@xpander69 Thanks. I got it set up through Lutris soon after I posted this comment. I had played RoR previously and didn't even think about trying it since I moved to Linux. Game loads and renders fine, but I time out almost immediately which never happened on Windows, so gotta troubleshoot a bit before I can get back into it.

Lutris is just the easiest way. But, no, you don't need it. The new launcher doesnt require dotnet40 anymore either so it should just be install and start playing. You can use Bottles or whatever else also, or just plain wine, but you want to enabled DXVK also.
