you need a patched wine (d3d content stream patches). then you just install steam and the game. set few registry keys like CSMT=enabled and StrictDrawOrdering=disabled.

Windows takes alot of processor power from me, hoewer linux does not. So I am starting to think performance even with wine, might be better in this game than windows, how does it compare? (If you have windows to compare with)

i dont have windows to compare..but usually you loose some perf due the directx to opengl translations and bugs that are in the wine software. in really rare cases you can get better performance.

I guess it's worth a shot, windows uses up about 10/20% of my CPU, and Arma doesn't work properly on my computer and windows anyways, since my CPU is the bottleneck you might think it runs using all the rest available CPU speed, but no. Not at all, it only seems to use two cores even though Arma II OA is coded to run quadcore. And since my Intel 750 is only 2.6ghz that's really bad. + I love linux, wine just doesn't run BF3 |:3

I'm having trouble downloading the standalone on Linux. I'm using Steam using Wine, but I've never used Wine before now, so I'm probably messing something up. If I try to open the game in Steam, it just zooms in x10 and nothing opens, and I'm forced to reboot my computer. If I try to open the game from my desktop with Wine Windows Program Loader, it gives me an error "There is no Windows program configured to open this type of file." Anyone know how to fix this?

from a windows game? not really.. there are few exceptions ofc, but mostly you get less frames when running windows game under wine in linux. with native games its another story, depends how to port is made, sometimes worse framerate sometimes better.

Okay I am kinda new to Ubuntu and POL, so here is my issue i downloaded 4 games and only 3 would play. So World of Tanks worked great even better than Windows version, but the rest failed to even launch! DayZ, RUSE & UT3:BE (all 3 was Steam based) so any advice? =)

Xpander69 Yeah thats what I did and all crash on start up any ideas? DayZ makes a black terminal box and dies, RUSE fullscreens and loads but never start and UT3 minimizes and wont come back :S

yes... start your steam from terminal and see what the problem is.. probably just missing some directx9 components or similar
