This video is 1.6GB source material and 30 000kbps constant bitrateThe Original video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XPa0oyrG2-w(same content) was 12.5GB source material, variable bitrate (30 000kbps to 280 000kbps, most of the time over 100 000 kbps)Both look really bad with the limited 1080p60 bitrate and codec youtube gives. While both source materials look really clean. It looks like smaller channels get the horrible avc1 codec for the 1080p content, while bigger youtube channels have vp9 for 1080p.If anyone knows the settings/parameters to use for youtube encoders to be acceptable, please let me know. I would not prefer using depth of field or motion blur in my games.

1080p is terrible on YouTube. You need to upload at least 1440p. Then people can switch to a decent quality. Even if you capture only 1080p, upscale it and upload it as 1440p. The video quality will then be ok (in 1440p).

yeah i do 1440p, thatsone gets vp9 codec. the problem with 1440p is that sometimes youtube doesnt process it for long time and 1440p only becomes available next day or even later. Thanks for input. edit: this video is now at least 1440p, but my original which i also uploaded 1440p is still not processed to 1440p at the time of writing this....

On my testing with YT, i've found that going 4k, even when the footage is 1080, will increase tremendously the quality of video. Also try not to encode your final videos in some shitty h264 compressed codec. Go for a Apple Prores 422 or DNxHR. Since youtube is anyway doing the transcoding, no matter what quality you put there, the better the source is, the better the encoding results will be.

i do 1440p, but the problem is that youtube doesnt process it straight away, sometimes it takes day or 2 before 1440p appears. i can up it to 4k also and see what happens then. im using h265 to render the videos out. Not sure if DNxHR is viable for a simple gameplay videos really :) . thanks for input
