To anyone here, Where can I ask a question/or help with a specific game’s settings or performance? Any suggested subreddits. ‘Radiohead’s KID A MNESIA’ (from EpicGames to Lutris to SteamPlay) It seems to (can) run and look great or fantastic. BUT…when entering certain large areas it freezes, no matter low or high settings.

Looks like there is an AppImage for ProtonUp-QT, they are really simple to use. Manjaro has an AppimageLauncher in pacman. Just need to make sure the .AppImage is set to executable.

Might have to play with Xenia this weekend and see how those DX12 fixes are working out. EDIT: Stick to earlier versions of Proton with Vulkan for now.

@M0DFATH3R no, we’ve been able to run the Windows version with Vulkan only for a while now with prior versions of Proton. The problem is that only a few games work because the emulator relies on DX12 for the heavier stuff. But if you Google running Xenia in SteamOS or on Steam Deck, you should be able to find guides for getting it up and running and playing around for yourself. For me, I can run Golden Eye and that’s enough to keep it on the Deck for now.

@xanzibarI’m afraid the DX12 support just isn’t working out well for Xenia at this point. No Red Dead yet. Tried the most recent canary build (as of today, 1/20/23), nothing really worked. If I roll back to prior versions of GE and force Xenia to use vulkan, I can get Red Dead to the title screen but that’s it. I don’t own Forza, but am able to play Golden Eye: 007, the unreleased XLBA version on Vulkan with prior versions of Xenia, so your mileage may vary. So long story short, the improved DX12 support isn’t helping things out on the Xenia end of things just yet.

For me, dxvk async was the way to go, Sonic Frontiers with GE-7-43 and Async work butter smooth, I though it was going to be integrated into proton anytime soon but if they removed it... Man, I don't know what I'm going to do, async for me was amazing :c

We also use DXVK Async for Sonic Frontiers on Steam Deck running Windows as the Valve APU driver has issues with this game.

I mean if the one creating it doesn't use it anymore, that says it all to be honest. For what it's worth I tried DXVK 2.0 on my PC with NVIDIA and shader compilation stutter is much less of an issue. Now we just wait for the AMD driver implementation so that Steam Deck and other PCs with AMD GPU can enjoy the same benefit.

It will not erase your other versions. You can also delete or uninstall if you choose. Best to do it through the program used to install it.

Wait, that changelog of GE-Proton 7-46 at 2:16 is partially wrong haha; God of War port for PC is D3D11 only haha. See https://youtu.be/JI5t0pvBB-Y?t=116 Myself not a huge fan of GE-Proton honestly as it often includes a lot of quick-and-dirty fixes/hacks..... but yeah, can sometimes add fixes faster than regular Proton, but likely by skipping major QA steps haha. Just get sometimes the feeling people see it as a magic bullet as it incorporates thus mostly quick-and-dirty fixes of games that are just popular at that time.... while regular Proton also looks more heavily at older games.

It’s had some ups and downs. For me, I run Fall Guys with either GE 15 or GE 29. Both run the game with little issue as of Jan 2023

Liam, I am very curious how many people have had to deal with an RMA so far. I have had my deck for 5 months or so now, and my screen just died. Backlight was on, but nothing else. It still worked, as I could hook up an external monitor, and get output, but the display was dead. I am waiting on my new unit now, but it had me wondering about how many people have had to RMA at this point. What do you think? Are the issues more common than we could reasonably assume, or is it just a point of the vocal minority on Reddit, etc?

It’s just a vocal minority. It will be no different for any hardware release. When you compare with other bigger consoles for example, messages about RMA get drowned out by the masses. All hardware has issues :), even my PS4 had to be repaired multiple times and the result was such a fail I had to physically remove the eject disc button to get it to stop spitting out discs in the middle of the night 💀

Word of advice most games if you set the in game fps to 60+ then cap the steam deck to 30 it normally smooths out stutering entirely and never use dynamic scaling resolution as they will cause stuttering as well

As pointed out in comments God of War is DX11, not DX12. I’ve reached out to the GE-Proton developer to see what they meant. Sorry about that but with so many APIs out there anyone can get mixed up. Updated: it was an error and they’ve removed it from the changelog.
