@Cameron Bosch unfortunately with competition like epic, and publishers having their own stores- force isn't going to work, they could have a requirement for new games to be compatible- but old/ older or already released games are gunna be SOL. Plus, that would have to have notice given etc, so unless if its an simpler tweak- we wouldn't see that impact for a good while. Potentially like a year or two if the issues with the anticheat are deep rooted into the engine. Valorant for example is a kernel level anticheat. I don't think valve would accept that in steam os since its read only and updates wipe anything written to unlocked permissions (I can't think of what it was called again).

@Cameron Bosch valorant isn't even on steam, it's on epic. I agree it would be better for everyone if they just made everything compatible with Linux. Force won't do it, incentives like a less percentage cut valve takes would definitely do it though. They need to work out an incentive that the publishers also win abit on to persuade them to invest to make it work on linux.

Either incentives or force. Of course they should start with incentives, but there's a point where they should stop allowing new games that don't allow use on Linux (*cough cough* Valorant & Destiny 2 *cough cough*).

I absolutely love my Steam Deck, and I am sad that I might have to RMA it, as the battery on it has severe issues. It will keep telling me that it has 2-3%, then jump back up to the correct percentage a few seconds later. Some times it randomly just shuts down as well, saying it is a 0%.
Even so, it is still the best tech purchase I have made in years, and some issues are always present on 1st gen products.

I’ve been continuously impressed with how much the Steam Deck has grown in it’s first year! My Steam Replay stats showed me that my Deck is rapidly replacing my main gaming PC as my go to gaming device. It just feels that great to play!
Like you said, I would love to see Valve improve the reliability of it’s Verification system. I’ve personally experienced instances where updates to the Deck or Proton have broken ‘Verified’ games which were previously working great (eg. Alan Wake and Wolfenstein 2). Some of these seem to take a very long time to get fixed, if at all.
I’d also love 2023 to be the year where Valve releases a full-length game that takes full advantage of the Deck’s features, similar to how Half-Life: Alyx showcased the Valve Index.

I love the Steam Deck, as a software developer and a Linux lover, it's even better because I can go straight to the command line, install everything I need without the back-and-forth with a windows PC and transferring files from usb keys that some users have to do if they are unfamiliar with some elements of Linux.
My only regrets, that might get fixed : wifi wierd issues (I think kde keyring doesn't unlock randomly on boot, so it prompts for password on known wifi networks), booting without any wired or wifi connection available, disabling wifi and still steam login waits for network before falling back to offline (it should be instant if I'm offline on purpose), having to switch often between game mode and desktop mode because I'm having a hard time configuring gamepad controls when launching games in desktop mode, slow and buggy Deck mode UI sometimes (minor issue).

I was hoping for the Deck to be an all-around, multi-purpose and tinker friendly gaming companion. It has been exactly that. Though there's much to improve in a successor, the experience is very positive so far and I'm very curious how far SteamOS will take it, which is the actual star on the show. Will there be another large update in 2023, are we going to to see expanded functionality or is this pretty much it?

It is a little annoying that Anti-Cheat is hard to implement into Linux, but this is not Valve's fault however as most of those Anti Cheat engines are Windows Based
You can Dual Boot into Windows 11 if you wish, but it is not recommended by Valve though as performance may be Sub-Par in some aspects

It's atrocious, hasn't changed since I got my Deck at launch, & I simply can't understand it; after so many updates I struggle with how every review or update just swallows the store's inescapable flaws outright is all, know what I mean? It did scare me at first but considering this is basically a p.c in a handheld device it's not comparable to the switch or anything else I've owned before. Is kinda noisy ok in your opinion then?
