It should be a 2230 M.2 SSD atleast 256gb for Shader cache if you use a Sd Card. There are Faster and Slower Version if the Modellnumber ends with a "A" then its a fast one if it ends with a Number its slower but still fast

Anything that's under 3 amps and only has chips on one side should be fine. As an example 3.3v 2.5a, go with something semi name brand tho, it doesn't have to be pcie4 or etc. Westren digital/wd, sk hinx, kioxia/Toshiba or Samsung. is a solid choice. Ya can get 256-512gn ssd's for cheap on eBay. $20-50

with how the 2230 SSD market is right now, any would be an improvement on the 64GB EMMC card used in the 64GB model id look out for KIOXIA or Sabrent drives tho they seem the most solid options atm

Not sure why that WD SN740 2TB drive is so hard to get in the west. I had to buy it off Aliexpress for a little over 200, taxes and shipping came out to right about 250. But man o man, was it so worth it for the SD!

@@animationmann I didn't bother, yet... The link to the AliExpress where I originally saw it had the OP already bought it and tested it and I used that link to buy the same 2TB SN740 from the same seller. I'm currently "806.1GB free of 1.8TB" listed in the Storage page. No issues so far either!

do not buy the jsaux backcase, the seams arent tight fit, it feels cheap and wobbly. nothing but dissapointment. The only good thing are its back button

Something I wish Valve would take into account for the verification program is if games sync graphics settings in the cloud. Hi-Fi Rush has been extremely annoying for me to play between my desktop and Deck because I have to change my graphics and audio settings every single time I switch devices.

Valve already has guidelines for what should be saved in Steam Cloud and what shouldn't be. They specifically state that graphics settings should NOT be saved, and recommend all developers to follow this guideline. Some developers just choose to ignore it.

I think there should be a Platinum level badge for games they go the extra mile, that do everything right and where the Developer officially commits to supporting the Steam Deck 100%. Like a "actually designed for Steam Deck" badge. The green checkmark still leaves some variables open... but you don't want to throw everything that doesn't do everything PERFECT into the yellow category either or you just discourage Dev's from going for green and customers from buying those games. Valve actually has it stated in their documentation that system specific performance settings are not supposed to be stored in the cloud save. Most Devs just treat Cloud Saves as a backup solution, the whole syncing and pickup where you left off on another device part, really only starts to be a thing now thanks to the Steam Deck. I always post these type of problems on the Steam Forums when i run into them (especially when i see active Devs or Marketing guys responding to people), we need to educate the Devs to pay attention to this stuff and that we care about it. I got 2 Indie Devs already to take a look at it and they updated accordingly. Although one of them opted to rather auto detect the Steam Deck and change resolution automatically to 1280x800 (that game didn't have any other graphics settings, i don't think that is a solution for the big graphics games with the thousand graphics settings, but for like the 8bit style indie games and stuff... it works, at least until there is a Steam Deck 2 with a different resolution.).

2:20 ... this is exactly how i see Emulators doing it as well. Fix the behavior system wide so all games that do this specific thing are fixed and the Emulator gets overall more >>accurate<< for it. This is of course a translation layer and not an emulator, which means there is a lot less reverse engineering because Vulkan already does the thing you need it to do, they do not need to replicate the entire behavior of a CPU and GPU from scratch in software. This is something they will NEVER be completely done with, there will always be odd edge cases and Devs doing things in a unexpected new ways to get a certain result. ...not to mention that there will always be new DirectX and Vulkan version... as far as Job Security goes, that sounds like a pretty sweet deal, assuming they get paid.

Regarding the Jsaux backplates, you might want to cover that many people have a bend in theirs which means they don't sit completely flat, it's been mentioned by many people on the Steam Deck discord, I have one too and can confirm it has a bend right where the metal plate starts. Unfortunately Jsaux when asked just told people to bend them back, which isn't really possible without applying a lot of heat and potentially destroying your backplate. I don't know if they're planning to fix this for the multicolored run or not. It might also be worth mentioning for your UK viewers that Scan will have 1TB 2230 Sabrent drives in stock by the end of the month, which are being sold with the Steam Deck specifically mentioned. As these are sold at retail you'd get a full 5 year warranty as opposed to taking your chances on eBay, so at under £160 it's a pretty good option for people in the UK who want a Deck storage upgrade.

@@gamingonlinux I can say on mine that bulge that is there when u clip the backplate in by the metal plate is still somewhat there after you fasten all screws, you can see a tiny bulge but over all I’m very happy with mine too and will get another color

In regards to the backplate, I've seen plenty more also discussing how happy they are with it. Really, it seems like anything you buy from anywhere, there's always gonna be a few duds - just like all the people talking about Steam Deck RMAs, they seem like a lot because they're loud. I've spent some time looking around today and not found all that many talking about backplate problems but I'll keep it in mind! As for Scan, I'll give it a shout in the next video, thanks :)

People probably don't understand that fixes to old obscure games strengthen the foundations of Wine/Proton as a whole. I've been meaning to contact the developers -- if the problem still persists -- about an old game that requires the user change a single character in the installation files. Something like that could possibly be a great clue as to the inner workings of Windows and fix a bunch of games that don't make it past the installation phase.
