@vilian9185 I've distro hopped a lot in the year and a half I've been a linux user since deck came out and I always come back to arch, because archinstall is piss easy, arch has the most documentation/tutorials, is up there among the distros with the most apps, and has the most up to date packages which for workstation stuff is a bad thing but gamers want the bleeding edge for maximum performance. Ironically, it's the distro that's given me the least issues of the ones I've tried too, despite being "unstable rolling release". I'd be perfectly comfortable recommending arch to newcomers, as long as you let them know about archinstall.

@vilian9185 naaa...its fine any problem can be fixed with a bootable USB and doing chroot into his own partition if any program breaks or stop working, he can always rollback with pacman -U [old version] Arch isn't hard, anyone who understand KISS/DIY can find a way to make it work. Nowadays you don't have that much issues like in the past, the last thing that really compromised your experience was Grub issues.

@vilian9185 I've only had it on Arch for about a month now and so far so good. It's not my main PC so if it goes badly in the end it is no big deal and if I really need it I still have Win 10 on another SSD.

changing to arch isn't good for a new user, but well, if it worked for you, good job!

almost all vulkan games are linux native, since vulkan forces you or make it easy to use standard libraries, even for CPU code, unless someone is death set to code for microsoft only then that's a different story(using crap like win32 for networking or something)..

I doubt it, not a whole lot of need when Proton gets like 99% of the way there. Until the user share is a fair amount higher, any extra put into a native linux build to potentially squeeze a lil more performance doesn't seem worth it when Proton can just do most of it for now.

@pytrysYou think Apple are going to let our jumped up nerdy OS humiliate them? "Nah, don't buy a Mac. Even Linux has more games than Mac. Macs suck." (That's what I imagine people will say at least.)

@niks660097 Yeah, I know, but to have a console-like experience, SteamOS 3.x runs circles around most distros + steam in BPM. I'm not knocking Proton or using another distro, but Valve seems to be working on a generic distro (not Deck hardware specific), and I'd love to try it out.

you don't need steamos, proton works every single on linux distro, see the increase in the video, even ubuntu gaming users increased, because of valve's proton's funding..

It can sometimes be very annoying to troubleshoot these type of issues. I have a 3080Ti and I was having an issue with Tiny Tina's Wonderland. It would not run on my very high end Linux PC, running Fedora 38. However, it ran perfectly on my SteamDeck. For a while, I played it on the SD. Then recently, I wanted to get it working on the PC. I had tried several things to get it working, but none of them worked. Every other high end game ran great on my PC. Then I recalled in the past, there being a significant difference between which method of installation was used for Steam itself. You can get different results, if you use an install from a rpm repository(Fedora default software location) or if you choose to install Steam from a flatpak(universal application installer). I switched to "flatpak" and then EVERYTHING worked. Why this happens is I believe related to the way "flatpak" works behind the scenes as it installs everything it needs in it's own "world" you could say, to not get technical. It can end up installing libraries(or prerequisites) that are different versions than are installed globally in your Linux distro. And this means, the games can end up using different libraries via a flatpak install, then they would in a "normal" install. Sometimes this results in things having a better chance of working. The downside is, flatpak(and other methods similar to it) tend to use more disk space as a result. Not a huge amount, but you should be aware that is a difference. Just mentioning it, as it may allow you to get around issues you've had. You can look up "flatpak" or other application distribution methods like it for more info. It depends on your Linux distribution as to what might be useful. Fedora supports flatpak, so it's a solid option for Fedora users like me. Also there are MANY other applications, some of which are designed for Windows, that run in these type of environments too. Lastly, I wouldn't use BOTH methods if you decide to try it. I'd remove installed Steam games on the PC and then Steam, before installing Steam in a different "environment" such as flatpak.
