Still no support for general controller dongles, Xbox controllers using the Microsoft dongle and the issue where a controller is reconnected after turning the deck back on from sleep not working is still there. All of the above makes the steam deck dock sort of useless to me ATM :(

I use a ps4, ps5 and even a stadia controller with no issues, that's Microsoft for you.

Woooaaaah OLED would be a game changer, I would love to hook it up to S7+ to make it a external monitor or something! Otherwise the steam deck works amazing as my secondary while doing my vtuber streams I kinda have a midrange rig so offloading performance is always nice.

There’s a 13” and 15” OLED screen on Amazon for $200. It’s a beautiful display and it works really well. It’s 1080p native but even running it at 720p looks great since OLED scales better than LCD screens.

After seeing tons of issues with the latest Stable updates on Reddit I don't even dare to update anymore ;-/

@@mashi81 It's seems a bit of a gamble.. The former 2 stable updates already acted funny when I installed them, black screen with fans blowing fully after the reboot. I had to reboot a couple of times before the Deck started again. But with the latest updates Reddit was overflowing with issues. A common one was the 'you have no internet connection' boot issue, even after a factory reset. I'll. just wait a while until a new update is released which doesn't result in all these issue posts :-/

I would also suggest AutoFlatpak, since that allows you to set automatic flatpak checking intervals as well as the exclusion parameters for anything you want left alone and even has a logger page so you can see exactly what's happening.

Strange issue on mine for some reason "The Saboteur" from gog used to launch in gaming mode but now it launches underneath the loading screen

@@mechanicalmonk2020 I was pretty shocked about the whole HDR thing as well, most HDR monitors falsely advertise HDR and even "HDR400 certified" is mostly fluff. Bought an LG OLED TV last Black Friday and real HDR is a night and day difference in contrast, color and bright highlights. Even with a working HDR display, Windows HDR gaming has not been perfect. Some games require you to turn it on in Windows settings before getting in the game and some allow you to turn it on in the game settings, sometimes only with Windows HDR enabled and sometimes independently of Windows settings.

I would like to add my friend who got an HDR monitor, has had nothing but issues with it on Windows and ended up just never turning it on. So I assume it is lagging behind because developers are waiting for the standard to stabilize into one simple standard, rather than the current mess of mixtures and software. Not to sound like a desperate Linux shill, it is behind Windows's support.

In fairness most people don't have a screen that can show HDR with any meaningful impact so the delay is at least expected. Devs over at the sunshine project are struggling to develop the HDR feature because none of them have any HDR capable monitors 😅

HDR came in a period of transition between two major protocols, which still isn't nearly finished, so no surprise there. Plus Linux is only backed by big companies which don't need HDR built into the OS so they are not intentionally gonna push for changes that benefit the ordinary gamer.

What bit confused you?

I just installed a Linux distro (i chose Zorin OS). I've used Linux before but not for my gaming PC. I ran into some issues immediately that maybe your channel can report on or talk about solutions for new comers to Linux gaming. - Steam Play didn't get a game working that was listed as "Platinum" on Protondb: Ace Combat 7 wouldn't launch. Checking ProtonDB and clicking into someone's positive review showed they were using Proton 7.0-X, and I was on "experimental". I set specifically Ace Combat to 7.0-5 and it launched. New comers might not know about Proton versions or how to troubleshoot. I luckily found the solution easily. - I plug in my Xbox Series compatible controller from 8bitdo (Ultimate Wired Pro for Xbox) and it blinks forever. My system sees the device in 'lsusb' in terminal and names it, but for some reason it never actually works and Steam says no controller is connected. I have not found a fix for this. Weirdly, a standard Microsoft Xbox controller (Series X|S) plugged in, did work fine. As did one of 8bitdo's other controllers with Xinput. No clue how to get that controller working. Not sure if this kinda controller support issue is common with others. - While it seems my GPU is being used as games run fast, my desktop (and in-game) refresh-rate are capped at 60 Hz. My monitor can accept up to 144 Hz. I cannot currently find a solution to this. Not sure how to configure my GPU settings without downloadable software like Nvidia's Geforce software, or Radeon's. To clarify, I am using a Radeon GPU for the first time aswell (RX 6700 XT). I plan on installing Windows alongside this on a separate drive, but ran into complications that blocked Windows temporarily. So maybe these issues don't matter a whole lot, but I would like to be able to game unhindered on my Linux installation. Now if only Discord would let me stream my games to my friends, with audio. Then I'd use Linux 99% of the time.

The multitasking fix is such a game changer.

Multitasking was a big dead issue, thank you valve for fixing it. Also I want shutout to new Discord Status plugin. upd. Its kinda fixed, but not working as expected, some apps like spotify doesn't want to close at all.

I just set up a shortcut within Steam for Discover and check it every couple days for flatpak updates, easy peasy

I love all these new plugins that provide functionality in gaming mode that I used to have to switch to desktop mode to use. I already installed the Steam Grid DB plugin and will definitely install this flatpak updater!

I hope valve will find a way to fix a issue I've had with non steam games. They'll run just fine but randomly they'll completely close themselves to steam home screen. This hasn't happened to every non steam game I have (so far) but I hope it's something that can be fixed

Have they improved input lag on Series X controllers connected via bluetooth yet? It feels fine connected to my laptop but it's terrible on the Deck (and other controllers feel fine).

It does work, both EAC and BattlEye are supported on Linux / SteamOS (Steam Deck). It's up to developers to enable it, many don't bother. You should tell those game developers you want it.

Valve talked about a Steam Deck refresh with an OLED panel and better battery life. HDR support in Linux seems to be pointing to this.

HDR should be cool, i'm still waiting to see how HDR content looks on my TV.

The steam crashing and freezing in desktop mode was giving me fits the past few days. Thank goodness they fixed it (I hope).

Insane amount of progress within a single short year. By the time Windows 10 will be killed in 2025, Valve has made Linux the perfect home for the gamers and casual PC users alike.

Hopefully valve will make steam deck into generational devices like ps and xbox for years. Steam deck is a great device.

Flatpak sucks. I want full AUR support. You can somewhat use it by disabling the read only but that will be overwritten with the next update at which point you will loose all you done.
