No, it's via Steam. It just uses Ubisoft Connect too for achievements and cloud.

Far Cry 5 also runs beautifully at a locked 40hz using console equivalent settings on the steam deck. Cryengine games are optimized for the 30-60hz range. It's only when you try to play at 120hz+ (on much more powerful hardware) that you run into the limitations of the engine and hit an fps wall.

umm... no. FC5 it doesn't use Cryengine, only the first game (that was developed by crytek) uses cryengine 1. All subsequent ubisoft developed Far Cry games use dunia: a heavily modded version of cryengine 1.

Some of that is HD textures which you don't need anyway on the Steam Deck, but I'm not sure if Steam allows you to remove. The Ubisoft Connect download without them is 86 GB.

Thanks for the heads-up on the buggy ingame framerate limiter. I think Ubisoft Connect is the cause for Ubisoft games hanging on a blank screen and having to press B to close it after exiting a game. I've had that issue with Assassin's Creed II.

Had a issue at first where my ubisoft launcher said ubisoft services was unavailable then I tried to mess with the different proton now far cry 6 say it can't detect ubisoft launcher. Really stumped what is causing the issue.

Was going to pass this up, but your eval talked me into picking up the Gold Edition. Will check it out on the Steam Deck, but mostly going to play it on my HoloISO SteamOS console PC w/ a 5800X3D and RX 6750, should run really well there at 60fps or better.

Only need to launch it with internet once, then it's fine to play offline, but you have to check back in after a certain amount of days

@@gamingonlinux oddly enough I had fc6 running through ubi on the deck for a while and never had any issues at all.. but during some updates of either Ubi connect or steam OS I would have to reinstall it.. strange though.

Sounds like you may be running into the RAM issue. If you have the HUD up, watch the RAM. If it's the same as in other games, it will hit ~14GB when it crashes. Let me know!
