Hello Night Drivers!

Its been a week since the launch of Midnight Racer. I am incredibly grateful for every purchase, your trust, bug reports, and the positive reviews! Id like to summarize this first week so you can stay informed about the project whats happening, whats changed, and whats next.

What went well?

The number of major bugs was small. Only one critical bug that blocked a track was reported, and it was patched within a few hours.
The overall reception of the game has been positive! Thank you so much for this.
Performance has remained at a very high level. The game runs smoothly even on lower-end hardware.
Within the first four days, 11 positive reviews were posted, which is an absolute win!

What didnt go so well?

Resolution issues. On launch day, the game only worked properly on 16:9 monitors. Other aspect ratios made the game unplayable. (This issue was resolved within two days of launch, and now the game works correctly on all resolutions.)
No Steam Deck support. Midnight Racer is a perfect fit for Steam Deck, but I didnt consider this during development as I didnt own the steam deck. (Ive decided this support needs to happen. I borrowed a Steam Deck, and support for it will be added within two weeks.)
Custom controllers issue. The game fully supports Xbox and PlayStation controllers, as well as most PC controllers. However, certain custom controllers confuse the game, leading to unusual input mappings. (Ill work on fixing this issue, though my top priority will remain Steam Deck support.)

Whats next?

Bug fixes and game balance will be my focus through the end of January.

Starting in February, Ill dedicate my efforts to optimizing the game for Steam Deck.

After that, Ill begin adding content to the game: new maps, QoL improvements, more music, and further game balancing.

Id like to add Steam friend leaderboards and a coach co-op mode for collaborative play. [/olist] Once these points are complete, Ill see whats next. Arcade Synthwave Racing Game

General Concept

This isn’t a classic racing game. Midnight Racer aims to capture the spirit of old arcade games with a modern twist. You don’t compete with other players in real-time here. The main goal of the game is to put you in a trance-like state, allowing you to kill time and stop thinking about anything, no matter your mood.

To enhance your gaming experience, the game allows you to turn off the music while keeping the other sounds. This way, you’re encouraged to play your own music in the background. This game is best enjoyed with your favorite songs.

The game allows you to drive very fast cars, which will require significant skill to stay on track, as well as slower ones designed for a more relaxed experience.
To further support your choice of play style, Midnight Racer features a chill mode where there’s no time or score pressure. The tracks in this mode are also much easier.

Features

Drift! Become a drift master. To stay on track and achieve higher scores, drift your way to victory!

Time-Limited Gameplay with Time Extensions: Play within a set time limit, with opportunities to extend your playtime.

Synthwave Atmosphere: The entire game is crafted in a psychedelic synthwave/vaporwave style. Immerse yourself in the 80s vibe with a modern twist.

Shop: Purchase new cars. Each car has its own unique perks and different stats.

Quest System Tailored to Your Playstyle: You can choose the length of the quests you want to undertake, ensuring they fit your preferred style of play.

Achievement System: Your progress in the game is tracked, with every success rewarded with special prizes such as new skins, colors, or even cars!

Leaderboard: If you enjoy competition, there are 10 Ghost Riders for you to defeat, allowing you to earn better titles and their license plates.

Chillout Mode: Depending on your mood and preferred gameplay pace, you can opt for a game mode that slows things down, allowing you to relax with less demanding gameplay.

My Chillout Zone: Turn off the in-game music while keeping the sound effects, play your own music, and experience the game on your own terms.
