emergin - The Video Game Generator

Overview

A game generator... okay. So, what is this all about?

Well, that's exactly what this sound like : a program which creates a BRAND NEW GAME each time you press a button. Let me explain...

In traditional roguelikes/roguelites (like Minecraft for example), you can create a new world just by clicking on "create a new world". It sounds normal right? Well, my problem with this idea is that in Minecraft, you can only generate Minecraft worlds! Sure, the map has changed but it's still the same game. It's still a sandbox game where you're going to collect minerals to build a house and fight zombies right?

Well, here comes emergin (from emerging, something which comes out of the void). In this game, or video game generator should I say, whenever you're going to press the "new game" button, you'll get a BRAND NEW GAME! New player(s), new enemies, new levels, new music, new GAME RULES (I mean that the generator is supposed to be able to generate games from different genres), new everything. Off course, saving and sharing your favorite generated games will be possible (but you'll only be able to share it with owners of emergin...)!

I came across that idea when I realized that playing my own games was boring, because I already knew them. Then this idea popped inside my head : "Why don't I make a game which creates itself from scratch so that even I don't know anything about it?". You think it's crazy? It's because IT IS, but still, I want to make this crazy thing happen! Just imagine, something like this :

Just, imagine...

Changelog

Okay, I get it. Then, what have you done so far?

Huh. Interested ain't you? Well here is the Changelog :

v0.2

  • Tilemaps generated - emergin can now generate the environments where our games are gonna take place. In this version, tiles were all just randomly scattered all around the place as a demonstration but when it will finally be time to generate complete games, these tiles will be arranged in a way that makes sense to obtain coherent levels.

v0.1

  • Background generated - emergin can create random backgrounds for a game. It's always moving in the demo for demonstration purposes but in the final version, a background can possibly remain still.

Coming soon

  • Generating Sprites
  • Generating Spritesheet
  • Generating UI
  • Generating Sound effects
  • Generating Music
  • Generating Game Logic
  • Generating Cutscenes
  • Generating Levels
  • Generating Story
  • Generating Complete Games

Aight. I'M IN!!! What do you need to make this happen?

Ho! You would like to get involved with this project? You want to see it come to life to be able to enjoy it once it's out? Well, here are 3 things you can do :

  1. Follow - This will be the biggest the help you could actually give me. Just... following my work. If you're interested in emergin, the sole fact that you're following all my updates on this project is already a huge help.
  2. Share - With so many new games popping up everyday, it's though to be seen. Someone cannot judge whether your game is worth playing or not if this person hasn't even seen it, and that's sad. So, if you like this project, sharing it with your friends is a great way to pass the word!
  3. Give Feedback - This was my idea. Sure, but maybe you thought about something amazing that could be fixed or added later on in the generator that I totally missed out. In that case, you can just leave a comment or contact me (by email for example). This might not sound like much but trust me, it really helps!

Those were the different ways you can help this project go forward. If you do one of these things, that's amazing! Thank you so much! If you don't, don't worry, that's not a big deal. In that case, I hope that I'll be able to make something else that might pick your interest in the future!

On this last note, HAVE A NICE DAY!
