"Suits of Shadolight" is my college game project that I developed in Unity from autumn 2022 to summer 2023. It's a stylised 2D Metroidvania-style platformer set in Shadolight, a twisted realm where light and darkness fight for supremacy. The player takes control of the ruler of a kingdom inhabited by anthropomorphic diamond and heart playing card suits, and must navigate tricky platforming challenges, solve puzzles, and avoid the many dangers of Shadolight in order to reunite the kingdom, return to their home realm and restore everything to its former glory.

Of course, since this was never supposed to be a fully finished game, there are a lot of features I couldn't implement in time or didn't know how to implement the way I wanted to. THE GAME ALSO HAS NO ENDING BECAUSE OF THIS! The main mechanic of the game was supposed to involve switching between day and night, using an amulet collected at the end of the tutorial level, to reveal clues for puzzles and hidden passage ways in the level, but certain areas would deal damage depending on what time of day it is. I also had a bunch of other ideas including basic combat mechanics, power-ups, other enemy types and boss battles, point-and-click elements, functional chests with loot, an upgrade shop to spend your silver coins in, ladders, actual puzzle sections, etc.

I'm honestly quite proud of how this turned out, even if most of my ideas were never implemented. I'm thinking about working on it a little more over the summer to add a few more features I couldn't add during my course, but we'll see. If I could, I would get a team together to remake the project from scratch and release it as a finished product, but only time will tell if that actually happens.

Please let me know what you think!
