Story
Why Mindflow XR?
Mindflow XR is an experimental virtual reality experience designed to help people slow down, breathe, and feel comfortable in VR. Instead of fast movement, loud feedback, or gamified pressure, Mindflow XR focuses on calm interaction, gentle environments, and subtle guidance. The world responds to you, as your breathing and heart rate settle, the environment becomes softer, brighter, and more peaceful.
This project explores how VR can support mindfulness rather than overwhelm it, especially for first-time users or people who find traditional VR stressful.
What We’re Raising Funds For
The Kickstarter funding will support the development of a functional prototype of Mindflow XR. This includes refining the floating island environment in Unreal Engine 5, expanding AI-guided interaction using the Convai plugin, integrating generative, and progressing research into biofeedback using small wearable sensors. Funding will also help cover development hardware, software tools, and time dedicated to building and testing the experience.
Why This Matters
Many VR experiences prioritise stimulation and spectacle. Mindflow XR takes a different approach by using adaptive systems that respond to the user’s emotional and physiological state. The goal is to create a calm feedback loop where the user’s relaxation directly shapes the virtual space, encouraging focus, presence, and emotional regulation.
Who We Are
Mindflow XR is being developed as a Final Year Major Project by a small student-led team with backgrounds in immersive media, interaction design, and XR research. The project is supported by research and guidance from the Univercities Research Centre and informed by influences such as Studio Ghibli’s environmental storytelling and contemporary mindfulness practices.
