Story
LAST ONE LYING is a 2D pixel-art multiplayer social deduction shooter inspired by games like Trouble in Terrorist Town and is being developed by a small, dedicated team of three people who share a passion for multiplayer party games, social deduction, and 2D experiences.
A group of people is placed into an isolated environment where there is no outside authority, no reliable information, and no way to verify the truth instantly. Everyone is told the same thing: work together, survive, and get through the situation. But from the very beginning, that promise is already broken.
Not everyone in the group shares the same goal. Some players have hidden intentions. They blend in, follow the rules, and act cooperative, but their objective is different. They manipulate, mislead, and wait for the right moment to act. The tension does not come from open conflict, but from uncertainty—never knowing who is honest and who is lying.
Weapons exist in these situations not because the game is about shooting, but because there is no authority left to enforce rules. Violence is not the purpose; it is the consequence of mistrust. Most confrontations happen when someone decides they can no longer wait for proof and chooses to act on suspicion instead.
When someone dies, the truth does not disappear. Bodies remain, and evidence can be examined. Players can see who the victim was and how they were killed, turning each death into information rather than a reset. Every mistake, every wrong accusation, and every correct decision shifts the balance of trust within the group.
Fight, lie, investigate bodies, and use the environment to outplay your friends across multiple settings.
The idea behind LAST ONE LYING comes from a simple place:
we love Trouble in Terrorist Town — and we love 2D games.
TTT has given us countless unforgettable moments with friends: tension, paranoia, laughter, and chaos driven entirely by player interaction. At the same time, we have always felt that many modern multiplayer games move away from clarity and focus, becoming overly complex or visually noisy. We believe that 2D games still offer unmatched readability, immediacy, and accessibility, especially for social and party-based gameplay.
With LAST ONE LYING, our goal is to combine the best of both worlds:
the social deduction and emergent storytelling of TTT, and the clarity and charm of handcrafted 2D pixel art.
At the same time, we want to move the genre forward by using modern technology and game design techniques. By leveraging contemporary tools such as Unreal Engine 5, advanced lighting, audio systems, and dynamic effects, we aim to create a game that feels atmospheric, reactive, and alive — without losing the simplicity that makes party games fun.
Our focus is not competitive esports or perfect balance.
Our focus is creating a memorable party game — one that friends can jump into, argue in, laugh at, and come back to again and again.
LAST ONE LYING exists because we wanted the kind of game we were missing ourselves: a modern, atmospheric, 2D social deduction game that captures the chaos and fun of TTT, while standing on its own.
PLAYER COUNT & MATCH STRUCTURE
How the game plays:
- 6–12 players per match
- Online multiplayer with lobby-based matchmaking
- Join via lobby code or server list
- Short, intense rounds (approx. 5–8 minutes)
- Each round plays out differently depending on player behavior.
ROLES & SOCIAL DEDUCTION
At the start of every round, players are secretly assigned roles:
🟢 Innocents
Try to survive, observe others, and uncover the truth.
🔴 Traitors
Know each other, work in secret, and aim to eliminate everyone else.
🔵 Detectives
A publicly known role with limited special tools, acting as a focal point for trust and suspicion.
Roles are intentionally simple — the depth comes from player interaction, not abilities.
WEAPONS & ITEMS
- Every player starts with a knife
- Firearms and ammo are scattered across the map
- Ammo is weapon-specific and limited
- Players can carry multiple weapons and switch freely
- All weapons and items are visibly held.
If a player is holding a Traitor-only item, it is immediately noticeable — creating instant tension.
THE TRAITOR SHOP
- Traitors have access to a Traitor Shop, inspired by classic TTT.
- Traitors earn points for confirmed kills
- Points are limited and must be spent carefully
Shop items include: - Special weapons
- Bombs and traps
- Utility gadgets
- Funny Things (you will see in the game)
Power always comes with consequences.
PROXIMITY VOICE CHAT
- Voice chat is a core gameplay feature, not just communication.
- Nearby players hear each other clearly
- Distant voices become muffled or inaudible
- Walls and doors reduce sound
- Large spaces can echo
Players can overhear conversations, whisper in corners, or give themselves away at the wrong moment.
Your voice can save you — or get you killed.
ATMOSPHERE & ART STYLE
- 2D pixel art
- Strong visual clarity and readability
- Dynamic lighting and shadows
- Flickering neon lights and dark corners
- Muzzle flashes and explosions briefly illuminate areas
- Impactful animations and effects
The game is designed to feel tense, stylish, and cinematic, without overwhelming the player.
MULTIPLE SETTINGS & VARIETY
- While the initial setting is cyberpunk-inspired, LAST ONE LYING is built to support multiple settings over time:
- Different eras and themes
- Unique weapons per setting
- Distinct atmospheres and playstyles
- The rules stay the same — the context changes.
DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
- No meetings, no voting, no pauses
- Everything happens in real time
- Every action leaks information
- Mistakes are part of the fun
- Chaos is expected and encouraged
The goal is not perfect play — the goal is memorable moments.
❤️ WHY SUPPORT LAST ONE LYING?
LAST ONE LYING is a passion project.
We are a very small team building the kind of game we personally love to play:
a chaotic, social, multiplayer party game where trust breaks, arguments start, and every round creates new stories.
We are not a large studio.
We are not chasing trends or profit maximization.
We simply want to create a game that feels fun, tense, and memorable — the kind of game you boot up with friends and say: “Just one more round.”
By supporting this project, you are helping us:
- finish and polish the core game
- expand its systems and content
- and bring a unique 2D social deduction game to Steam
🚀 WHAT HAPPENS IF FUNDING IS SUCCESSFUL?
If the Kickstarter reaches its goal, the funding will be used to:
- Continue full development of LAST ONE LYING (our game is 70% ready)
- Improve multiplayer stability and performance
- Expand gameplay systems (roles, Traitor Shop items, mechanics)
- Create fully custom, hand-crafted pixel art assets
- Add more maps and settings with unique atmospheres
- Improve animations, effects, lighting, and sound design
- Run larger playtests and iterate based on community feedback
In short:
Funding allows us to turn a strong prototype into a polished, complete game.
