Pitch of the game:
In the French Central Massif, the Mazel family went from poverty to wealth in mysterious ways, building a castle where their lineage prospered for centuries. In the 20th century, decadence and oblivion struck the family, which disappeared under troubled circumstances. Today, two modern explorers enter this abandoned castle to discover the truth about the fall of the Mazels, but they will face the curse that still haunts these places to reveal the buried secrets of this vanished dynasty.
Inspirations and Origin:
Inspired by French folklore, Roots of Sorrow immerses players in the shadows of a fallen dynasty that made pacts with supernatural forces. Enter the castle, uncover the mystery of the sacrifices, and survive the cursed entity that still lurks... (Mazel legends, pacts, possessions, family secrets...)

- Origin of the Roots of Sorrow Project
The initial concept for Roots of Sorrow originated from a student project. However, that version featured more repetitive gameplay and significantly less immersion than the current version.
