ecotone's story

Dear community, Today we are releasing ecotone in early access. If you dont know the game story, let me introduce a little background here. In 2011 I begun playing around with a software called stencyl, I was doing a platformer because it was easy to begin when you want to do a game, and it's almost instantly fun (yeah I can jump!). After just a few weeks, my friend and graphist Alexandre, helped me out with great graphics and we showed the game to a few people using my personal blog. They didn't liked the main character, so we decided to show them a variation of maybe 20 avatar. You guessed right, they picked up the one with the mask (by the way we implemented all the others avatar in the game in a particular level). Thanks to the blog Aleksi joined us and did a fantastic job on the music side. Seriously I was doing a crappy game alone and suddently two Insanely talented people was helping me! The game was on the right path and I got the help from Mérédith and her friend Claire. Everything was going well but back then stencyl was particulary great for small flash game, using AS3. when we where ready to publish the we noticed that the file was way too big for any flash portal. And we saw that stencyl 3 now allowed much more possibilities. We had to make a choice, publish the game like this, or do it all over again to fit stencyl 3 and the fullscreen. So yes we worked after work during a few years, sometimes we took a few month rest, sometimes we were on a rush doing a lot of work at once for a few weeks. A few month ago we got the help of a real developer, he helped us with shaders, optimization, bug fix, and he rewrite a lot of code to match the new stencyl (that use Haxe now). The game is now running in fullscreen, support gamepad, get new musics, a new bonus world, improved graphics, shaders, new assets etc... Ecotone is not an "easy" platformer there is a lot of "old shool" feeling in it, people say it's mario meeting world of goo and limbo. And the story is very open so everyone may understand something unique. However there is a real story behind that may ask a bit of research to find out what it is. We wanted a particular atmosphere, we wanted that the people playing the game think "that's cute, but this music tell me something is not right". Working for so long in the dark, we now need the help of gamers, we need inputs on the look&feel of the game, we are polishing the game right now but we know a lot of nasty bugs still remains. We cannot test on every single computer and we don't want to launch with the game crashing on half of them. Thank you for reading this, thank you for helping us. Sundae Factory.

  • You are not a hero, You will not save the world, you may even not save yourself.

An ecotone is a transition zone between two world, it can contain unique species and plants that exist only in this area.

ecotone is a platformer in which the mechanics of each level are different: speed chase, puzzle solving, reversed gravity, stop time and more! Each level is based on a sentence which allows the player to understand the story of the avatar and help him to solve the riddle of the level.

    • A new gameplay at almost each level, you will never get bored.
    • A quirky universe
    • A unique soundtrack
    • A retro feeling (no checkpoints, use code to reach levels etc…)
    • Discover an unexpected story
