LOVE 3 is just one of the awesome games being done quickly at this year's Awesome Games Done Quick!
Games Done Quick is a fundraising organization that showcases the world's greatest speedrunners to raise awareness and money for various charities. Two of their more popular events, Awesome Games Done Quick during the winter, and Summer Games Done Quick, during the summer, bring together said speedrunners to broadcast games from an array of genres and generations. This January's event benefits the Prevent Cancer Foundation, whose mission is to empower "people to stay ahead of cancer through prevention and early detection." The live stream will broadcast on Twitch from January 8th-15th.
LOVE 3 will appear on AGDQ 2023 during the morning on Saturday, January 14th, EST! The run will be set as a 3-person Any% race, featuring @_charbunny, @PaulisterSR, and @Heponwana. Additionally, a donation incentive for the Prevent Cancer Foundation, if met, will allow viewers to see runners race on a BRAND NEW level made specifically for this event, which will be available afterward at http://LOVE3Custom.com.
We are honored that LOVE 3 is part of AGDQ 2023 and such a fantastic cause!
See you in the chat!

I'm so excited to share that LOVE 3 now has full support for custom levels! Now you can create your own levels using any mechanics from any previous level from any previous LOVE game, and I'm working on adding additional customizable objects to challenge players. You can find levels to download or upload your own by visiting mod.io/g/love3! Downloading levels is pretty easy and straightforward: [previewyoutube=pMldC4jE43E;full][/previewyoutube] The process for making them is still pretty obtuse, and I'm working on making it easier to use, but the process is this: Go to the directory that you installed LOVE 3 in, and find the "custom" folder. In there there are a couple of sample stages that you can poke apart to see how they're made. You can create your own sprite strips and define them by creating a config.json file, which will have the information for where objects are created in the stage. The only tools you need are your favorite image editor, your favorite text editor, and some patience for some trial and error. I'm still working on the wiki, but some additional information and documentation for editing mode and a list of every object in the game to pull from, check out mokuzai.studio/love3custom. If you want help making your stage, please come hang out in the Mokuzai Studio Discord, where we'll be happy to help. I want to specifically thank and credit two folks who helped make this happen: Nikita Krapivin: Nik wrote the script that reads the json files and populates the stage. I literally couldn't have done any of this without that. James Begg: James wrote a fantastic and simple script that enforces the 3 color rule of LOVE's visual style by replacing the color of every object with the stage color that the player chooses. Now you don't get a mishmash of weird colors when you choose a smasher from kuso and the turrets from LOVE 3. Also many thanks to the folks at mod.io for hosting everyone's levels for free as a cross platform solution. <3

Hey all, Fred Wood here. I'm excited to share LOVE 3 v1.2.6, which adds a few very cool things.
1) Steam Deck Verified: Valve has tested the game on the Steam Deck and set up the proper branch, so now you can simply click install to get the game up and running on your Steam Deck!
2) Endless Mode: Added to the main menu, ENDLESS LOVE will let you play infinite levels in a seamless randomized order. Choose Arcade Mode before ENDLESS LOVE, and see how many levels you can beat with 100 lives! You might even see a couple of levels you didn't expect in there.
3) Bug Fixes: There were a couple of rare issues that could pop up in a couple of levels, and those have been squashed.
And a fun secret for the folks who read these changelogs:
4) When starting the game, on Keyboard hold Shift+M or on controller hold Select to start the game in Mirror Mode, to throw off all of your muscle memory.

Hello, and thank you for playing LOVE 3! As I have made a native Linux port of the game for an older version of Linux, it is not properly supported by the Steam Deck, but thankfully with Windows version runs perfectly! I've spoken with folks at Valve who have assured me that this will eventually be something I can set in the backend, but for folks with a Steam Deck who want to play the game now, here you go!
First, find LOVE 3 in your Steam Library on your Steam Deck, and press the Options Button, as illustrated at the bottom of the screen.
Second, find the "Properties..." option, and press A.
Finally, on the left side of the screen, select the "Compatibility" option, set "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool", and select "Proton Experimental".
This will download the Windows build of the game, and you'll be good to go. Launch it like you would any other game on your Steam Deck!
If you've enjoyed your time with LOVE 3 on or off the Steam Deck, it'd be a huge help if you'd leave a review of the game! This will tell Steam to share the game with folks who might also like it. One review can go a long way to a game's success, so I hope you'll take a moment and do that.
Thanks so much for your support, and I hope you enjoy!

First, I want to apologize for not testing LOVE 3 v1.0.5 as much as it clearly needed to be. I know a few players ran into some game breaking bugs that were very obvious oversights. I pushed a couple of hotfixes to alleviate those issues, but any downtime is really unacceptable. I had intended that as a quick bugfix patch to tide y'all over while I finished this more substantial one, but clearly I shouldn't have rushed it.
And now I'm happy to share LOVE 3 v1.0.6, with an extra special blast from the past.
New Feature:
<3: A new* 20 level** set, recreating the original version of LOVE (called <3) released on message boards in 2007. These levels include the original music, and help show how far I've come as a designer -- which is to say they're not great. But as an archive piece, it's neat to have, and it has its own YOLO medal and Speedrun mode! You can access <3 from the main menu like any other level set.
Ah yes, the original Level 1. You might find that it's a little easier thanks to the higher jump height.
Some levels start you off in unfortunate positions.
Switches date all the way back to 2007!
The original LOVE had a viewspace of 128x128, so maze levels like this needed something to keep them from being too easy.
Good lord, what was I thinking?
Bug Fixes
LOVE 3 Level 1: Fixed an issue where the player could set a checkpoint on the moving platforms.
LOVE 3 Level 9: Fixed an issue where the player could set a checkpoint on the moving pillar.
fastkill error: Fixed an issue where the game would crash if your settings file didn't have a custom entry for fastkill and setdeathanim
There may still be issues with some of these changes, and I ask for your patience as I try to iron them all out as quickly as I can. Thank you for your support, as well as your patience. If you'd like to get in touch with me directly or provide feedback, the absolute best place to do that is our official Discord. Thanks again!
* Not new, actually very old
** 19 Levels and 1 that's basically hold left
*** There's not really more, unless you count Steam Leaderboard support for <3

Hey folks, I've taken a crack at some of the small remaining bugs, including a fix to one that resulted from another fix that was done slightly carelessly. Also a reminder for folks who didn't read the previous patch notes: General Change: For those paying attention to these changelogs, press "CTRL+SHIFT+L" or all four shoulder buttons at the title screen for a work in progress. Come share your findings and thoughts in the official Discord, or let us know if you run into any issues by writing in the Bug Report thread! Bug Fixes Checkpoint Change: Every once in a while, the player will squish through a pixel or two of the floor. If the player sticks their checkpoint there, it will get stuck there and cause unintended consequences. Now if the checkpoint is found to be under the ground, it tries to push it up four pixels. If it's stuck further than four pixels down, the checkpoint gets reset. This should not cause any issues with any casual play, and will keep cheaters from being able to absolutely ruin the leaderboards with exploits. Added an asterisk of shame for folks who don't complete a YOLO run without saving and continuing. There's no other punishment for it, just a little asterisk next to your run results to show that you had to save and continue. It's okay though, I can't do it either. LOVE 3 Level 2 / 25: Changed the sound that plays when operating the mover, which solves a previous LOVE 3 Level 4: Fixed a newly introduced bug which was messing up 100% runs LOVE 3 Level 7: Fixed an issue where pausing/unpausing would change the depth on the secret platforms. LOVE 2: kuso Level 3: Fixed a bug where decorative fans would disappear after pausing and unpausing. <3 Level 3: Occasionally you could be going so fast that you would die while finishing the level, but this has been fixed. <3 Level 8: Occasionally you could be going so fast that you would die while finishing the level, but this has been fixed. Software Change: Previously I've been building the game using Game Maker Studio 2's YoYo Compiler (YYC). For this build, we're using VM, which may improve performance for some players.

Another weekend, another update of some small fixes and a nice new content update. I'd recommend reading through the changelog! Come share your findings and thoughts in the official Discord, or let us know if you run into any issues by writing in the Bug Report thread! Changelog: LOVE 3 Level 07: Fixed a very minor Depth Issue LOVE 3 Level 23: Fixed the way the level would look when paused. LOVE 3 Level 23: Fixed an issue with the Helipod's Hitbox LOVE 3 Level 25: Fixed an issue with the Helipod's Hitbox LOVE 3 Level 10: I've reworked the keys and door in a way that should fix the rare freeze that has happened on this room in the past. LOVE 2 kuso Level 13: Fixed the hitbox on the spray object so it can't kill you if you clip into it while it's inactive. General Change: For those paying attention to these changelogs, press "CTRL+SHIFT+L" or All four shoulder buttons at the title screen for a work in progress.

Hey folks, happy new year! While I had a brief Christmas vacation, the fine folks in the Discord reported a number of small bugs, and a sizeable one for dedicated speedrunners. I've solved everything that has been reported so far, except for a hard to reproduce crash. I'll look into that more soon. And as always, if you find any issues with the game, please report them to the Bug Report thread in the Steam Community. If you want to hang out with other players, we've got a dedicated Discord for all of my games. Fixes: There was an issue where restarting from the pause menu while in speedrun mode would cause you to lose one frame on your next run (found by GameguySD). This has been resolved. Added fastkill and setdeathanim to the settings.json file so you can force the speedrun settings (instant death, non-random death animation) for the whole game. This will not be added to the LOVE 3 Level 05: Fixed an issue where the tracking eyes would become visually glitched after pausing and unpausing LOVE 3 Level 02: fixed an issue where a part of the level drew over the pause screen LOVE 3 Level 07: fixed an issue where a part of the level drew over the pause screen LOVE 3 Level 25: Fixed an issue where music wouldn't return if you restarted after mostly finishing the level LOVE 3 Level 25: In non level select mode playthroughs, you are no longer able to pause after mostly finishing the level Fixed an issue where the ending music would be overlapped if "Restart Music" was enabled in the menu Fixed misordered track names in the Now Playing section of the pause screen for LOVE 2: kuso levels. Made it so the mouse cursor does not draw over the game screen.

LOVE 3 v1.0.2
I've been trying to compile and catch every little bug that slipped my testing, thankfully still nothing big!
And as always, if you find any issues with the game, please report them to the Bug Report thread in the Steam Community.
If you want to hang out with other players, we've got a dedicated Discord for all of my games.

Bug Fixes
Level 13: Made it so that turrets will reset their angle after 60 seconds of inactivity to prevent trapping yourself
kuso Level 9: Fixed an issue where an intentional shortcut could accidentally kill you
Fixed a visual error where a player in a helipod would trigger the teleporter incorrectly.
Fixed a crash that could happen in Level Select when the bonus level sets were not unlocked
Sounds that play at alternate fixes now obey the level you set for sound effects.
Leaderboard names for LOVE1+2+3 Classic and LOVE 1+2+3 100% runs were showing up inaccurately in game. This has been fixed.
Additions:
Level 13: Added a cool little lightning effect I forgot about. Oops.
Added Steam Screenshot Functionality

I'm proud to share that LOVE 3 is finally released! I've worked hard on this game for the last year and a half, and thanks to the help of James Bennett and the folks at Screenwave Games, I think we've made the best LOVE yet. Once you play through the game, I hope you'll consider leaving a Steam Review, as that's one of the most helpful things you can do for an indie developer like me post-release. Speaking of post-release, while I'll be fixing bugs (like the li'l ones found below), I've also got plans for a number of features that I'm working on. So stay tuned! And as always, if you find any issues with the game, please report them to the Bug Report thread in the Steam Community. If you want to hang out with other players, we've got a dedicated Discord for all of my games. --------------------------- LOVE 3 v1.0.1 Bug Fixes Fixed an issue where you could softlock yourself on Level 13 Fixed an issue where the pause menu could crash the game Fixed an issue where the pause menu pointer could hilariously scroll off the menu Results Screen Level 14 Secret Calculation Fixed Results Screen Level 16 Secret Calculation Fixed Results Screen Level 21 Secret Calculation Fixed Feature Update: Enabled a Steam Input Default Configuration, so PS4/PS5/Switch Pro Controllers should now work by default

ABOUT THE LOVE SERIES The first LOVE was originally released on Steam in 2014 and later received a Nintendo Switch release. Just like LOVE 3, LOVE is a short and addictive challenge set against the backdrop of minimalist design. The game contains a custom respawn system, 16 levels, 12 original songs, competitive scoring, and multiple ways to play. As long as a player is on solid ground, they can leave a checkpoint at any moment during their run. Beyond the visual aesthetic and unique mechanics, James Bennetts soundtrack completes the vibrancy in the simplistic three-color atmosphere. LOVE 2: kuso was launched on Steam in 2017 and received a considerable free content update when it was released a year later on Nintendo Switch. It follows suit with the franchise and provides players with a fair challenge to complete and master. Packed with 41 stages, players run, jump, and leave their own checkpoint through acid, disappearing platforms, giant saws, and more. James Bennett collaborates once more with developer Fred Wood to create an auditory experience as tight as the controls.

Hello everyone, I'm Fred Wood, the developer of the LOVE games. I've been working on developing LOVE 3 for over a year now and am excited to finally let you try a slice of the game!
On Wednesday June 16th, we'll be releasing a five-level demo as part of the Steam NextFest! Each level will have a secret to discover as well as its own ranked speedrun leaderboards. This fully featured demo will be a perfect representative slice of the game that we'll be releasing later this year.
The demo will have six new tracks from James Bennett that I'm very excited about, and we'll be releasing a 7-track Demo EP with proceeds going directly to him. You can hear a sample of the Demo EP right here!
[previewyoutube=CvTMuH2EjT0;full][/previewyoutube]
I can't wait to see what everyone thinks of the game! I'm particularly proud of the level of depth these levels have, and considering the many hours I've spent developing it, I can't wait to see speedrunners tear it down.
We have a Community Discord that we would love for you to be part of, so you can share your thoughts about the demo, tips for speedrunning, or to just show off your best time. Come and join us!
And of course, the two biggest things you can do to help this game are to tell your friends, and very, crucially important, add the game to your Steam Wishlist!
Adding games to your Steam Wishlist helps you by letting you know about updates and releases relevant to a game, but for developers like me, it's an incredible tool that lets Steam know that this is a game that people might be interested in! So please, take a moment, and make sure to click that beautiful green "Add to your wishlist" button.
