Hello, Neo Barcelona visitors! A small hotfix just went live to address some minor issues found in our latest patch (update #3). Here is the list of hotfixes:

• Eliminated delay in throwing dagger at the end of dash animation.
• Eliminated delay when throwing dagger when touching the ground.

We meet again, Neo Barcelona visitors! A new patch just went live featuring several bug fixes and improvements to the mobility and responsiveness. This patch was created with the help of our speedrunning community feedback, so the game should feel and play better than ever! Heres a list of the main changes:

• Time will no longer stop when pausing on respawn
• Jack will no longer face a different direction when attacking/throwing dagger while idle
• Levels beat using wall glitches will no longer count towards the leaderboards
• Fixed landing animation delay and input bug
• Fixed bug that prevented players from teleporting to the dagger while slashing
• Added input buffers
• Ground pound animation can now be canceled
• Wall jump is improved and should feel more responsive now
• Grabbing a diamond while in co-op mode will now correctly show in the level report
• Fixed bug that would show all save slots with 100% collectibles unlocked
• Fixed end of tutorial game crash
• Added button remap localization
• Overall polish of animations and inputs

Hello Neo Barcelona visitors! A new patch just went live featuring bug fixes and general improvements to the UI, menus and gameplay. Heres a list of the main changes:

• Faster respawns and level reload times
• Fixed the screen controls bug
• Fixed the resolution bug
• Fixed collectibles bug when changing language
• Fixed the bug where the the player would lose control of Jack and the timer would stop
• Fixed the bug where the 4th player in co-op would get stuck inside the wall
• Fixed the bug where the player couldn't progress in the tutorial
• Updated fonts and backdrops in the tutorial and new cutscenes
• Other minor fixes

• Collectible information (gems, hotdogs, data cubes and number of time capsules used) will now correctly display on the save slot, sector selection and level section.
• Tutorial improvements.
• Confirmation step when deleting a save slot.
• Twitter video replay sharing system re-implemented.
• More options: disabling vibration, screenshake and countdown at the start of a level.
• Remapping is no longer in playerprefs (this will solve the crashing issues some players were experiencing).
• In-game bug fixes: fixed camera boundaries, fixed the bug where sliding and pausing the game would cause the timer to stop.

Hello, everyone! September 30th will see the release of Aeon Drive, our 2D cyberpunk action platformer. For this occasion, we decided to guide you down the memory lane and show the growing pains the project went through. Some may think that Aeon Drives aesthetic was all planned out from the beginning, being such an integral part of the game. However, as with many projects of this scale, this wasnt the case, and the game went through a number of iterations first. R3 (Run, Rewind, Repeat!)
This is one of the earliest forms of our initial concept, showcased at GDC and PAX back in 2019. As you can see, we went for a more realistic art style, a far cry from Aeon Drives crunchy pixel-y cyberpunk goodness. Still, we already had some elements pinned down: the game has you play as a droid, which would eventually evolve into VERA (now whos the sidekick?). Its still a timed platformer and the blockly level design and overall scale of the game are what wed stick with for the remainder of our development cycle. However, at this stage the game was obviously much slower and more sluggish; it needed that extra spark, which led us to develop it further. Project R
It was at this stage when we settled on the general pixel aesthetic and the cyberpunk mood, but it still wasnt really Aeon Drive. The timer wasnt nearly as punishing, as collecting in-game currency was more of a focus. The game was still quite slow, and the overall mood was much more dark and gritty than what wed end up with. Still, we were already set on our general style, the game taking place in Neo Barcelona, a female protagonist, and even implemented some recognizable visual elements, such as the Exit sign. At this point, Jackelynes design was much closer to the final version, the visuals were given more pop, and the soundtrack already included familiar tunes. Weve also implemented the dagger mechanic, although it was still underbaked. It was a neat gimmick, but wasnt fast and snappy enough yet to become a backbone for a speedrun action platformer. The time capsule mechanic was also a bit more complex: the player had to collect in-game currency which would then be exchanged for time-capsules. This build of the game was unveiled at the start of 2020. At this stage, the game finally took onto its finalized look and feel. The only missing component was Jackelyne herself. She still retained her slower movement, and that floating dagger probably wouldnt even cut a chunk of butter if you threw it at one. In the course of that year, we did our best to completely redesign Jackelyne to make her fit into the world of Aeon Drive, gave her more movement options, toiled at some detailed sprite work, and sped everything up a notch. It was the final piece of the puzzle that made everything click into place. Did we do a good job? Thats what youre going to find out once Aeon Drive releases on September 30th! Hey there, speed demons! We all know Aeon Drive as an extremely fast-paced game; after all, youve only got 30 seconds. However, its not like we just slapped the levels together because you wouldnt be fast enough to process them anyway. Our team wanted to make the world of Aeon Drive feel alive, so we imbued it with fun little details here and there. So we just want you to stay still for a bit and appreciate the little things this time.

Some things even react when you approach! Of course, each area has its own little quirks. We hope you have fun discovering all of them, along with some easter eggs!

As some of you may know, Aeon Drive takes place in a city called Neo Barcelona, which surprise, surprise! is inspired by the real thing. The name of each location in Aeon Drive references a real place, and even the backgrounds hide some references to what's really going on out there. Here are some locations we were inspired by when creating the game. And if you want to see the rest well, you just got to play the full game once it comes out on September 30th!

The Eixample neighborhood in Barcelona. You can probably see where the games platforming roots came from. Of course, Aeon Drive adds more cyberpunk and grit into the mix, and does take some liberties with its setting. Still, being settled in Barcelona during the development of the game, we took a lot of inspiration from our surroundings when working on the games pixel art. Not only that, but we made sure to include some specific references, which will probably only be clear to you if you spent some time in real Barcelona. Hey there, speedsters! We have an announcement: Qualifiers for the Aeon Drive Tournament, the event we launched to celebrate the release of Aeon Drive, will be over soon! The first part of the Aeon Drive Tournament will close on September 15th, 2021 at 10 AM PDT (1 PM EDT, 7 PM CEST, 1 AM CST). You will have until then to download and launch Aeon Drive: Tournament here on Steam, sign up for the tournament, and complete the five levels required to enter the global leaderboards. But remember: only the best 64 runners in the Global Leaderboards will gain access to the next part of the event - excluding influencers and other people already qualified for the Finals. There are currently more than 3000 contestants, so you better be prepared to face some fierce competition! And thats only a portion of what we have in store. Aeon Drive is a speedrun action platformer set in a Cyberpunk Barcelona.
