In the meantime, we received several e-mails asking if the standard boxed edition of the game is still available (it wasn't during the Kickstarter, and won't be manufactured in the future either). We checked our old stock and found a couple of copies in perfect state, so we decided to offer these to everyone - including our backers, but it's available to everyone else as well on our Store Page provided by BackerKit. [h3]Magical Artbook - A New Project[/h3]

We've also got some questions in our inbox, asking whether a dedicated, standalone Black Geyser artbook in full color will be available. Since Black Geyser has beautiful art, that's actually a great idea, but such a hardcover book has a high total cost, so if the demand isn't high enough, such a project wouldn't be successful. Therefore, we decided to open a survey where you can indicate your interest in such a standalone artbook. You can read more information on our website.

[h3]Standalone Goodies For Collectors[/h3]

Goodies such as the Cloth Map of Isilmerald, the keychains, T-Shirt and mousepad are currently unavailable (the limited stock we have will be required to fulfill the Collector's Edition reward tiers). Tales of the Moon Cult Kickstarter Live!

If the campaign is successful, Black Geyser will get a new DLC - Tales of the Moon Cult! This expansion will add new locations on the world map with brand-new content, creatures, items, spells and riddles! It also introduces a complex questline focusing on the Cult of Zoria and their answer to the avarice and corruption affecting the nations of Yerengal. A completely free fixpack (not requiring the DLC) will be developed as well for Black Geyser, adding Strongholds, Dual Wielding and a number of other features to the base game - you can read more on the campaign page.

This Kickstarter is also the last chance to get the Collector's Edition Box (with goodies included) of Black Geyser: Couriers of Darkness.

We've received lot of e-mails from you, asking if the original Black Geyser Collector's Edition Box will be available or not. This truly warmed our hearts, but many things have changed (and not in a good direction) here since 2018. Especially material prices and manufacturing costs/conditions for premium boxes and hardcover books from printing companies skyrocketed. If we offer a Collector's Edition, it means we don't want to give you a box & goodies of questionable quality, while we still want it to be as affordable as possible to a wide range of fans. Kickstarter Launch on 17th October



Ho there, adventurers!

The Kickstarter campaign for Tales of the Moon Cult is launching on 17th October (next Tuesday)!

We're still working on some features of the campaign. If you plan to support us, please help our planning by clicking the "Notify me on launch" button on its Kickstarter page.

If the upcoming Kickstarter campaign is successful, our studio will not have to shut down. In this case, the launch of the Tales of the Moon Cult expansion (DLC) is expectable before August 2024.

The DLC introduces brand-new areas with new content and a major questline focusing on the Zoria Cult and their answer to the corruption of greed affecting the world. Some of the planned features for the free Fixpack are as follows:

Kickstarter Coming Soon For Expansion Pack



Greetings, adventurers!

We are happy to announce that we are going to launch a Kickstarter campaign very soon (early October) to fund the DLC's development - its Coming Soon page is already live on Kickstarter!

We encourage you to log in to Kickstarter and subscribe to its launch notification on the Coming Soon page. Your subscription (the number of subscribers) will help us a lot in the planning of the campaign, including the stretch goals.

If the Kickstarter campaign is successful, our studio won't be forced to close, and the DLC is expected to arrive before August 2024.

You can check out this forum post for more details on the DLC and its associated Fixpack. We want to emphasize that this Fixpack will be a free Steam/GOG update to all owners of the base game, so you won't need to purchase the DLC to get it.

Backers of our previous Kickstarter campaign who haven't received their physical rewards yet (game box, lorebook etc.) will receive all items well before the start of the DLC campaign, as all shipping will be completed before the end of September.

Brazilian Localization Released



Ho there, adventurers!

First of all, we are truly happy to announce that Black Geyser: Couriers of Darkness is now available in Brazilian Portuguese! Our eternal thanks goes to Edson Belo de Oliveira Jnior (@mundonasher) for the Brazilian localization of the game. This translation wouldn't have been possible without his highly professional work method and selfless dedication to the project.

Regarding the future of Black Geyser and the developer team, THANK YOU so much for providing truly valuable feedback in our the Google survey (it will remain open for some more time). Based on the results of the survey, we have decided to organize a Kickstarter campaign for the DLC in the near future. We also managed to secure the required minimum budget for organizing such a campaign. For more details on the planned DLC, see this post.

If the Kickstarter is successful, our team will be able to stay together and create a DLC for the game. In this case, a free fixpack will also be developed for the base game, which will be delivered as a free regular update to all owners of the game (you won't need to own the DLC to receive this update). Even though we call it a fixpack, it will contain new features and important QoL improvements as well (check out this post for the complete list).

Since a successful Kickstarter campaign for the DLC enables the Black Geyser team to stay afloat, it will also allow us to plan a Black Geyser sequel in details and launch another Kickstarter later to fund its development. Sadly, if the DLC Kickstarter fails, our studio will most likely be forced to shut down.

We will inform you as soon as we have more details to share about the upcoming Kickstarter. This update should happen within two weeks.

Mac & Linux: For technical reasons (such as Apple's notarization process), the current update with the PT-BR localization for Mac and Linux will go live after a couple of days. Thank you for your patience.

Italian Translation Released



Greetings, adventurers!

We are thrilled to announce that Black Geyser: Couriers of Darkness is now available in Italian! Our heartfelt thanks goes to Giacomo Falconi from Wordbridge for the Italian translation of the game.

In March, we informed the community about serious issues regarding the current and future operation of the Black Geyser team. We are still working on these issues and will come to a final conclusion in August that we will share with you immediately. Thank you for your patience.

Since our last update, several fixes and improvements have been implemented as well. You can read their list below.

Asking Your Genuine Feedback



[h3]Ho there, adventurers![/h3]

Sadly, we don't have good news today. We were truly happy on 8th January when Black Geyser won the Bronze Medal in the "Game of the Year Awards 2022 - Best RPG" category on RPGWatch, but now, darkness approaches.

[h3]If you have no time now to read further, please skip directly to our short Google survey.[/h3]

We reached a point where we just can't keep going in these circumstances. We hoped that the Steam Autumn Sale and Winter Sale would turn the tide, but they didn't. Our studio will need to close soon, unless we are able to make a successful Kickstarter soon to help finish our DLC for Black Geyser. This DLC would be released around August, giving a major boost for Black Geyser sales as well. We already have substantial content finished for this DLC, so its development won't happen from scratch.

Our revenue is currently unable to support even the daily operation of the team in the current economic situation in Europe. We reduced team size to a minimum, and optimized all aspects of operation. It wasn't enough. The game still has more than 80,000 wishlists, but these haven't produced substantial sales yet. Players might be waiting for a bigger discount (e.g. 50%), but this is nothing more than an assumption (the 40% discount applied so far didn't make a real difference in sales).

Once we run out of reserves, we will have to split up and shut down the studio. However, this will not endanger the delivery of crowdfunding rewards and localizations to players (such as the boxed editions and the Italian translation). We have got these covered from our reserves.

[h2]Why Kickstarter is Necessary[/h2]

A successful Kickstarter allows us to complete the development of a brand-new DLC for Black Geyser (take a look at planned DLC features). Once released, the DLC will automatically improve Black Geyser sales as well. (Existing backers who already pre-ordered the Black Geyser DLC add-on before will be offered another cool reward for their support in the new Kickstarter.)

Finishing the DLC development helps us to overcome difficulties and survive this temporary period of darkness. Local economic forecasts for the 2nd half of 2023 are now carefully optimistic, but without your support for the DLC, there is no way we can survive till then. Your support in Kickstarter is a win-win situation, because it allows you to pre-order the DLC at a discounted price.

As a part of the DLC development, a free Fixpack will also be created for Black Geyser (with long-awaited features such as strongholds, dual-wielding, expanded romances, or the option to travel directly to questgivers from the journal menu - see complete list). When the DLC is released, this standalone Fixpack update will be delivered automatically to all owners of the base game. Players who don't own the DLC will also receive this free update on Steam and GOG.

After creating the DLC and Fixpack, we are planning to re-use the Black Geyser game engine to create a Black Geyser sequel and other brand-new games.

We have created a FAQ below, and there is a Google survey as well that we ask you to answer. Your feedback in this survey will decide if the team can stay together or splits up permanently.

[h2]Frequently Asked Questions[/h2]

Q: Does this difficult situation affect the Kickstarter rewards (boxes, books, keychains etc.) that have not been delivered yet?

A: No, they are not affected. All Kickstarter rewards will be delivered to backers. We have dedicated reserves to ensure this.

Q: I don't know much about you. Could you tell me about yourself?

A: We are a very small indie team, and Black Geyser has always been a community effort. Without the support of backers and fans, it wouldn't exist at all. Sometimes we receive feedback where disappointed players seem to believe we are a mid-size indie company. We are not, and it's definitely our mistake if we have set exaggerated expectations with Black Geyser for some players. Having said that, we sincerely believed in every single objective that we ever set for Black Geyser. It is our very first videogame product, and we learnt really a lot from this project.

Q: I understand that the worst outcome is the irreversible shutdown of the Black Geyser team and studio. What is the best outcome if you get the necessary support from me in your upcoming Kickstarters?

A: If you decide to support us, the short-term and long-term outcome would include the following:


  • Brand-new DLC for Black Geyser + free Fixpack of long-awaited features and improvements
  • A much better sequel to Black Geyser, taking into account the lessons we learnt
  • A unique sci-fi/post-apocalyptic style RPG (story and world basics already exist)


Q: I'm sure you gained much experience, but the above plans are very ambitious. What makes you believe you can make it if I support you now?

A: We learnt several lessons from Black Geyser. Including design and management mistakes we won't make again. We just need your help to bootstrap the process by backing the DLC on Kickstarter or PayPal. This brand-new DLC will give a strong push and press coverage to the Black Geyser project again, and its revenue will allow the team to design the sequel (and then prepare another Kickstarter for the sequel). There is a saying that success breeds success. While nobody cares about old or failed projects, a truly successful Black Geyser sequel will enable additional projects (including a unique sci-fi/post-apocalyptic style RPG). On the other hand, without a Kickstarter for a DLC now, bootstrapping and survival are impossible, which means we will be forced to close permanently. It's an all-or-nothing, now-or-never thing. There is no middle ground.

Q: You just mentioned that you want to make a Kickstarter for the DLC now, and then another Kickstarter later for the Black Geyser sequel. Why is that?

A: The Kickstarter for the DLC enables us to complete the DLC's development and release the DLC. The DLC's Kickstarter establishes a fresh and active backer base, which will be handy for the sequel's Kickstarter as well. Developing the DLC also gives us valuable experience that we can use for the sequel.

Q: I'm not satisfied with a number of things in Black Geyser. These include loading times, QoL things, lacking depth of characters, too few romances, empty and boring maps, unsatisfying epilogue, and way too many fetch quests. How come you didn't you get these right?

A: The issues you listed were known by us even at the release of the game in 2022. Getting these right would have required a much bigger budget or a longer development time with a bigger team (the two are interchangeable). This was not predictible in 2018 when we planned the original budget. Since Black Geyser is our first videogame, we certainly made mistakes during its development and learnt several lessons, but 80% of Black Geyser's biggest issues are still the result of insufficient budget. RTwP games are very expensive to develop from scratch, and we had to face several unexpected happenings (such as the pandemic). Nothing is more frustating than having the skills to do something but lacking the necessary budget at the end of the day.

Q: Will the DLC address 100% of the issues mentioned in the previous question?

A: The DLC primarily focuses on new content and on the delivery of long-awaited features (in its free Fixpack). You can read the complete list of planned features. While we do our best to improve as many features as possible in Black Geyser, remastering global stuff like fetch quests or character depth is impossible with a DLC budget. What you are asking is the main objective of the Black Geyser sequel instead. We are convinced that we can address all major issues of Black Geyser 1 in its sequel, and create a much better game, but to do that, we will have to to raise a significant budget for the sequel. This cannot be done in a single step, especially not now. The first step is the DLC. The second step is the sequel.

Q: What makes you think that you can raise enough money to fund more memorable characters, engaging side quests, interesting maps and an overall smoother experience for the Black Geyser sequel?

A: For Black Geyser 1, we had to build a real-time-with-pause (RTwP) game engine from scratch, based on the Unity core engine. Contrary to the common misbelief, it isn't possible to license an existing RTwP RPG engine from other studios, as their engines are not available for licensing. Creating our own engine used up more than 70% of the total project budget. Since we have now the Black Geyser 1 engine in place and ready to use, we will only have to optimize it and improve it for a sequel. Which is no little work either, but it is much, much, much less expensive than creating an engine from scratch. Therefore, most of the sequel budget can be spent for in-depth system and content design (QoL features, memorable characters, engaging quests and maps etc.). This was not possible for Black Geyser 1. Moreover, since we learnt from our mistakes, we will not only have more money to spend on production quality, but will also be able use this money more efficiently.

Q: You mentioned that your revenue is not enough to support your daily operation. So how would these Kickstarters really fund new products when you have issues with your daily operation even?

A: They are interrelated. Income means you have work, and vice versa. Imagine a carpenter who makes a living creating wooden staircases. Now, if the carpenter no longer gets any new jobs at all, and is asked to repair their existing works only, their income won't be enough to make a living. The carpenter's tools and workshop have fixed overhead, regardless of the amount of work they get. We have a talented team and a functional game engine, but our costs are no longer sustainable without new projects in the current economic situation. Imagine an architect who designs buildings. They cannot make a living by designing a single building whole their life.

Q: What happens if the funds raised on Kickstarter won't be enough to develop the DLC and the team cannot stay afloat after all? I don't want to risk even $15 for an uncertain thing.

A: This cannot happen, because we will set a Kickstarter funding goal that fully covers the DLC development costs and release. Any funds raised above this will serve as a safety reserve, and will be used eventually to improve the game. Moreover, as already mentioned before, the local economic situation is predicted to improve by the end of this year. Without your support for the DLC, however, we cannot survive financially till then.

Q: My Kickstarter rewards are still not delivered. Why is that? Are you asking support without delivering rewards to your existing backers?

A: Digital rewards (soundtrack, lorebook PDF etc.) were already delivered - if you haven't received yours in BackerKit, please contact us and we will look into it. Regarding the physical rewards (boxes, hardcover books, collector editions, mousepads etc.), we are grateful for your patience. All physical rewards will be delivered to everyone before we launch any Kickstarter or crowdfunding. Sadly, the delivery prices we estimated in 2018 skyrocketed since then. Having said that, we do have the budget to get all physical rewards delivered even now, but then we would risk the daily operation of the team by using up our last reserves. Before starting the delivery, we want to see what funds (if any) we can expect in the future for the DLC. Of course, your rewards will be delivered to you no matter what, but we want to see our future first before scheduling delivery costs.

Q: I enjoy classic-style RPGs, but some features of Black Geyser were too old-school for me (example: per-character inventory). Are you planning to introduce well-established RPG concepts into the sequel, such as stash i.e. shared inventory?

A: Certainly. The sequel will place a big emphasis on QoL, and will no longer insist on very old-school features that restrict User Experience.

Q: If the sequel is successful financially, would you consider implementing major improvements retroactively to Black Geyser 1?

A: Yes, if the sequel is financially very successful, we will definitely consider improving some major aspects of Black Geyser 1. One example is reworking fetch quests to make them more complex and engaging, with more interesting choices. Another example would be adding engaging content to the locations that are currently quite empty. We would also love to improve character movement and combat animations.

Q: I've never participated in a Kickstarter or crowdfunding before. How does it work? Do I get the full DLC later for free if I back the project financially on Kickstarter?

A: Yes, if you choose the appropriate reward tier in the Kickstarter campaign, you will get the DLC for free when it's released. You can consider your Kickstarter support as a DLC pre-order at a discounted price. Kickstarter is a platform for reward-based crowdfunding. Each project has a financial goal. 50,000 USD, for example. If the funding goal is not reached for the project, your credit card will not be charged at all. So it's an all-or-nothing platform. If the goal is 50,000 USD, it isn't possible for the project creator to raise 45,000 USD for example.

Q: So you are basically asking advance payment for developing a brand-new DLC, aren't you? You did the same in 2018 with your Kickstarter. You had no track record of released products that time, and used crowdfunding to develop and release your first game, Black Geyser.

A: Exactly. Using Kickstarter is like a carpenter asking an advance payment for the staircase they are going to create. The Black Geyser DLC would be our second product, so our experience enables us to use the new Kickstarter funds more efficiently than before. Once the DLC is released, we will focus all our efforts and knowledge on the Black Geyser sequel - our third product.

Q: Since you already delivered a full project to the market (Black Geyser 1), I trust that you can develop, release and support a videogame from scratch. I believe you learnt from your mistakes, and will do your best in the DLC and then deliver a great sequel to Black Geyser. What is the next step, how can I help?

A: Preparing a Kickstarter campaign requires significant costs. We want to start preparations only if we are convinced that the funding goal of the DLC Kickstarter will be reached. Otherwise, we will be set up to fail, and all Kickstarter costs will be wasted money. Therefore, we ask you to fill out this short survey (it takes a minute or two).

Q: I don't do Kickstarters. Can I use PayPal to support your campaigns instead?

A: Yes. PayPal pledging usually opens on the last day of Kickstarter campaigns.

Q: When should the Kickstarter launch for the DLC & Fixpack?

A: This depends on several factors, but we would like to launch it in April.

French Translation Coming in January



Greetings, adventurers!

Just a quick update before the Winter Sale. We are happy to share that the French translation is coming very soon, in January 2023! If you have been waiting for the French localization and don't own the game yet, the upcoming Winter Sale is a great opportunity to get Black Geyser.

Create Your Full Party, Difficulty Rebalance and Spanish Language



Ho there, adventurers!

The current update brings long-awaited features as well as some surprises! Summary of changes:


  • Create up to 5 custom characters during character creation if you prefer
  • A free online tool to create character builds that you can import into the game
  • Charisma, Focus and Dexterity now enable more enjoyable and versatile character builds
  • Balance: improved early-game and end-game difficulty for smoother gameplay
  • Spanish localization (both for Spain and Latin America)
  • Lots of bugfixes

[h2]Create Your Full Party[/h2]

When you start a new game, Black Geyser allows you to create your main character as well as up to 4 custom characters for your party. These additional characters won't be present in the prologue and tutorial of the game; you will be able to recruit them a tad bit later. Their location will be displayed in the Summary screen of the Character Creation UI, as well as in the Party Manager UI during the game. We will also list their locations below (SPOILER ALERT):

  • On Merchant's Road, standing by the eastern edge of the rocky outcropping north of the smoking wreckage.
  • At the Isilbright Gates, by the lion statue on the right side of the bridge.
  • Just outside the Crooked Haggler, to the left of the entrance.
  • Inside the Crooked Haggler, standing at the bar.
    If the game progresses to the main quest "To The Quick" before recruiting the second and third custom companion, they move inside the Crooked Haggler.

    Creating your custom party no longer requires you to own a copy of Black Geyser, since we also created a completely free, online Character Generator website for you. It allows you to create and download a custom party, which you can import directly into the game if you wish. Since you can use this website from any location, you can have fun with character builds even when you don't have Black Geyser installed on your current device.

    [h2]Balance and Attributes Update[/h2]

    In terms of balance, the current update addresses two earlier issues of the game: early-game areas were too easy, and the second half of the game could be unfair due to a harsh spike in difficulty. In terms of attributes, three stats (Charisma, Focus, and Dexterity) were redesigned carefully. For a precise description of balance and attribute changes, please take a look at this detailed documentation.

    [h2]Spanish Localization[/h2]

    Both versions of Spanish localization (Spain and Latin America) are now available for the game! We want to express our eternal thanks to Miguel Lara for creating these translations for Black Geyser. Without his selfless and precise work, the game wouldn't be available in Spanish now. We also want to thank Oscar "DonHart" Gmez for his participation in the LATAM version of the Spanish localization.

    We are a very small indie team with a particularly meager budget and a single product.     Free Online Character Generator with Custom Party



    Greetings, adventurers!

    As you know, a major game update is coming tomorrow that also includes the option to create your own custom party (more details can be found in our previous post).

    In the meantime, we have also created a completely free, online Character Generator website for you. It allows you to export and download your character (or a full custom party), which you can import directly into the game (after tomorrow's update). As you can open the website from any location, you can have fun with character builds even when you don't have Black Geyser installed on your current device.

    Arvex Companion Quest, Russian And Turkish Localization & More!

    The current update not only brings a fully finished Arvex companion quest along with several fixes and improvements, but we are also thrilled to announce that Black Geyser: Couriers of Darkness is now available in Turkish and Russian! Our eternal thanks goes to Gkhan Halil Dzgn from 23 Studios for the Turkish translation, and to Roman "Scarab-Phoenix" Matsuk for the Russian translation of the game.

    Fresh Update and Localization FAQ!



    Ho there, adventurers!

    Since the release of the game, we have received many questions from you on several topics, including the future translations of the game to various languages.

    In this update, we are presenting a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) that gives answer to the most frequent questions we have received. At the end of the update, you can also find the changelist of the most recent patches.

    [h3]Frequently Asked Questions[/h3]

    Question: I thought the game would be translated to my language by now. Why are some languages available while others are still not? Do you prefer some languages to others?

    Answer: There is no preference between languages, we would love to add all of them. The only thing that determines which languages are added are our possibilities, including our financial options. The game currently has more than 280,000 words of text, which is an extreme amount of text for an indie title. Translating this many words is usually very expensive, and takes a very long time for an affordable translator.

    Question: I still dont get it. Why were some languages already added that have a much smaller player base compared to other, major languages that are still unavailable?

    Answer: As a small indie studio, we are adding languages that we can, not the ones we want to. For example, some of the existing/upcoming translations were made by our friends or enthusiasts of the genre/game, who are professional translators but translated Black Geyser basically for free or at a very low cost. We dont prefer adding language X to language Y because we like X better than Y, but because there was enough time and budget for language X. Skipping/postponing language X wouldnt have helped for adding language Y at all.

    Question: My language is still not there anyway. Should I forget it?

    Answer: Definitely not! As soon as we have more information (such as an ETA) about a particular language, we will let you know. By the way, Russian and Turkish translation will be added very very soon. We will post more information about them in the upcoming days.

    Question: As a small indie studio, you still had a budget for the game and translations, what happened with that? You also had a Kickstarter campaign.

    Answer: As stated on our Kickstarter page, the Kickstarter funds were only a part of the funding that we secured from external sources. Unfortunately, as an indie project, we faced many difficulties in the years following the Kickstarter, including the challenges caused by the pandemics. Based on community feedback throughout the years, we also changed the scope of some things in the game and refined/reworked certain features. Altogether, the overall budget required to complete the game increased by the time the pandemics ended. Therefore, less budget remained for translations than we initially anticipated.

    Question: Why dont you allocate more budget? It would allow you to add the missing features and languages. I have also posted a negative review about the game with the hope it will encourage your company to fix bugs faster and add the missing languages. Do you not listen to these reviews?

    Answer: We do not have any external funding. Black Geyser is currently our only project, and it is the only source of revenue for the team. We appreciate all feedback, including negative reviews as well, because they are very useful to us for deciding how and where to improve the game. Regarding your question, paradoxically, the more negative ratings we get, the less the games revenue will be, even reducing our financial resources to the extent where were unable to improve the game by adding missing features or language translations. At the moment, our team is very small, and while we read and process every single review, we lack the resources to implement all requests in a short time.

    Question: If you have had so many issues, why have you released the game so early? Im glad to see you are constantly improving the game and listening to player feedback, but why didnt you do these much earlier?

    Answer: As a small team, we have been doing our best. If we had been able to postpone the release and refine the game before the launch, we would have done it. Black Geyser has been our dream project, but there are financial limitations. The question wasnt whether there can be a Perfect Black Geyser or a Black Geyser that needs refinements, but whether Black Geyser exists or not. Based on the feedback of our community, we felt the only right decision was to stay together, release the game and then keep supporting it as we do now.

    Our Latest Update Brings Additional Party Banter & More

    As we continue our post-launch push to improve on all that you've asked, we've delivered two recent updates that deliver key requests: additional party banter and achievements.



    Alongside this, we've added the Staff of New Dawn (an item offering resurrection) which sees those who carry it no longer needing to visit temples if a party member dies. We've also finished and extended the Hamlin, Bjalla and Jade companion quests. Take a look at the full notes below.

    Latest Update & Future Roadmap

    Ho there, adventurers!

    In March, after a hugely positive Early Access period, we launched Black Geyser into 1.0. We were incredibly proud to have addressed many of the issues that players raised and our small team did our best to identify and fix key concerns. While the game wasnt perfect and there remains plenty to accomplish, were glad to see that our continued efforts have seen our recent raft of reviews vastly improve player perceptions.

    Weve still a long way to go to get the game where we want it to be and have been working hard on not only our next update but also our future roadmap. In last weeks update, we added the Pass Time feature alongside other improvements. Where todays update is concerned, theres quite a lot of improvements that many of you have requested (full changelog here):


    • You can now use the worldmap to travel to reachable areas without the need to visit area border
    • Multiclassing is more worthwhile: previously, XP requirements of chosen classes were summed for multiclassing. These XP sums are now reduced by 20% for using two classes, and 40% for using three classes, making multiclassing more fun.
    • Magical bags for additional item storage: Bottomless Bag of Bulguras and Superabundant Sack of Swinishness
    • Rebalanced final battle and the ability to pre-buff before most key battles

    Besides this and before the end of the month well also be adding the following (with more to come):

    • 37 brand-new Steam achievements
    • Dozens of new banters for party members
    • Finished (extended) companion quests for Bjalla, Jade and Hamlin
    • Dozens of side quests fixes

    As far as our mid-term plans are concerned - and some of these may arrive before the end of the month - were wanting to further expand on our quest journal and travel system. These changes will include:

    • Quest journal mentions the quest giver name and location
    • Quest journal offers a button to travel directly to quest giver (allows a single loading screen instead of multiple loading screens across outdoor and indoor areas)
    • Customize the shortcut for ingame highlights (currently, its hardcoded to the TAB key)
    • Compare a weapon item to both equipped weapon sets (three-tooltip comparison)
    • Potion Case, Ingredient Pouch and Parchment Satchel item to hold potions, ingredients, scrolls and recipes

    Finally, our long term plans are very much in the works and while we dont yet have a firm date on when they'll arrive, well have them to you as soon as possible.

    • Finished (extended) companion quest for Arvex
    • Customizable ability bar by player
    • Item descriptions will list the classes that can use the item
    • Pets
    • Strongholds
    • More spells
    • More love for unarmed combat (such as items giving a bonus)

    Pass Times Travel To Black Geyser

    Ho there, adventurers!

    Having released our latest update we're pleased to say that a key community requested component has been added: Pass Time.

    The Pass Time feature allows your party to wait an arbitrary amount of time, rather than time passing in real-time. It's particularly useful when you need to wait due to a quest or want to change the time of day (day or night) and you dont want to visit an inn. Like anything in Black Geyser, it's down to you whether you choose to use this, or avoid it completely.

    Besides this we've made additional improvements to brewing and drying, enemy encounters, loot and sounds. As always, you can visit our stream of update notes here.

    Over the last couple of weeks and since we've launched Black Geyser, we've been delivering updates almost daily to address your feedback. Since our last major notes list, we thought it time to deliver another. If you want to keep up with the frequency of our patches, you can always find real-time updates for our notes here.

    • Combat mode no longer gets stuck when moving far from enemies

    Ho there, adventurers!

    First of all, we wanted to say thank you to those of you who have picked up Black Geyser and ventured through the dangerous Kingdom of Isilmerald so far. Weve loved seeing folks try the game and have been using your valuable feedback to fix and patch the items youve brought to our attention.

    Below youll find a full list of patch notes from this month so far. In the coming days well be showing off our roadmap and sharing the major issues were tackling so you can stay up to date on all things Black Geyser.

    Black Geysers Officially Launches



    Ho there, adventurers!

    After years of development, a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign, and over 6 months of Early Access, Black Geyser officially launched into 1.0 today. In that time, we've worked incredibly hard to implement your feedback and improve on the things that matter to you.

    [h2]What We've Improved[/h2]


    Black Geyser's most requested improvement.

    We've vastly improved load times to significantly improve the speed at which you can enter and exit buildings and zones. We continue to work hard on improving these even further.


    You suggested, we delivered.

    Our tutorial wasn't perfect, and Black Geyser was difficult to start out in. We've overhauled the tutorial, cleaned up our signposting and given players much more help through its opening hours.


    Magic lacked spark.

    You right highlighted that casters were far too weak compared to other classes in Black Geyser, so we completely reworked their abilities and balance to significantly improve their potency.


    You wanted even more content and we were happy to oblige.

    Black Geyser was already a large game, but when it comes to old-school CRPG's, we agree you can never have enough. We've implemented all new quests, Chapter 3 of the core story and made significant improvements to plenty of others.


    Hitting like a wet noodle is never fun.

    Many players raised concerns that their characters and their abilities weren't scaling properly, leaving them feeling far too weak against ever tougher enemies. We've fixed this, so you'll feel much stronger as you explore the wilds of Yerengal.


    Everyone should be able to play Black Geyser.

    Mac & Linux support were important for us and our community, and never more so than with the Steam Deck having arrived (we have hopes!). We're pleased to say Black Geyser is now available on both.


    We want our encounters to be tactical and challenging.

    We've added all new boss mechanics and unique encounters to Black Geyser. These are designed to make fights much more tactical, while ensuring greater difficulty for those who choose to seek out these enemies.


    Wrap up warm for these cold spots.

    You can now explore the northern frozen harbour of Freynagar, separated from the city by a huge ice dome, or take a trip to Amanuel's Hoard, the seaside fort owned by the greediest man in history. These new zones come with a cold warning.


    Love to make potions? Its got much better

    Our crafting wasn't as intuitive as it could be, and it was too time consuming. We've streamlined the process, implemented automated recipes (have the items in your inventory? You'll be able to craft at the press of a button) and refined the process by making it much more accessible.

    The Gods of Yerengal



    Ho there, adventurers!

    There are many mysteries surrounding the gods of Yerengal and yet their influence is felt throughout the kingdom. It starts from the icy tundra of northern Jotnar, moves to the rising dunes of the Eastern empires, and beyond the endless Zandur sea. Our understanding of them depends on our ability to look to the dawn of creation...

    Generations ago, Alnarius, the King-god of Love, and Tilindia, the Mother goddess of Nature, created the universe, and Yerengal was their greatest creation. The first beings, also known as the Many, were created by Alnarius and Tilindia. They have been formed by Tilindia, but shaped by Alnarius, who gave them purpose, passion, and ambition. The Many were tested in order to demonstrate their worth, allowing them to show they can and would live in harmony with this new planet.

    As the Many prospered, they began to refer to themselves as Man. Having realized the purpose of their existence, Man cared for the planet and sought the mysteries of their existence. The power and influence of man grew as did his faith and his faith granted the gods abundance in nourishment.

    When new gods joined Alnarius and Tilindia, they welcomed them with open arms, even though many of these new gods yearned for the great power the two originals possessed. Alnarius and Tilindia, however, were happy to share their creation with them. These new gods did not always come from the light of the sun, but rather from the shadows of a void, attracted to the power of human infidelity or worse qualities such as chaos and disharmony.



    The shadows of the land were made by a very powerful devil-god named Rothgor, whose intentions were evil. It was he who rewarded creatures for doing wicked things and causing Man to doubt and fear. Over time, the new gods developed the same passion and ambition that filled man, many of whom formed alliances with each other to gain more power.

    They desperately strived to attain and maintain power which failed, but Rothgor's aim has not changed. In his single-mindedness, he simply wanted to become strong enough to destroy Alnarius and Tilindia, which in turn would return everything back to pure darkness.

    Alnarius and Tilindia were extremely powerful due to the land of Man, however. Rothgor could not overthrow them, so now he lurks in the shadows, influencing the fates of men in some way, always trying to undo their hard work.

    Because of Man's prosperity, Rothgor eventually became sickly and weak. It wasn't until he was visited by Zornilsa, the goddess of greed, that he realized her potential. Rothgorhe welcomed her with open arms, and together they created the Black Geyser, the very embodiment of their darkest, coldest aspects combining to undo the world of Man. As the Black Geyser poisons Man's mind and soul with greed and envy, it lurks in the shadows of Man, working much more subtly and with far more catastrophic results.

    Now, the Kingdom of Isilmerald is facing a precipice of chaos, and mistrust has spread throughout the land. People of all backgrounds, whether highborn or lowborn, have become fascinated by material things. Splintering has occurred within the blessed kingdom of prosperity, resulting in distinct factions.

    The Black Geyser has corrupted both sides so much, that both now prepare for war.

    Let Your Greed Grow On March 17

    Ho there, adventurers!

    Since Black Geyser released into Early Access in August 2021, we've been blown away by the sheer amount of feedback and support we've received. We knew that the game wasn't quite where we wanted it to be, and we wanted to work hard and use this time to refine our vision.

    In total, we've delivered over 19 huge updates. From significant improvements to loading times, all new quest chapters, to a fully reworked tutorial and fresh zones: explore the northern frozen harbour of Freynagar, separated from the city by a huge ice dome, or take a trip to Amanuel's Hoard, the seaside fort owned by the greediest man in history.

    We've also delivered Linux and Mac Support, a full rebalance for casters, implemented improved boss mechanics and delivered major improvements to its combat and damage scaling. We're not finished, and with our launch date agreed as March 17, 2022, we've still more to do in the coming weeks!

    We wanted to thank everyone who has been on this journey with us, and we can't wait for you to dive into the full release as we get over the finish line. In the coming days, we'll be releasing more information on what's on the horizon, as well as some blog posts giving any new players greater insight into the world we've been creating and our all-new launch trailer.

    Phase 2 Of Our Early Access Is Officially Live



    After 14 updates since we launched into Early Access in August, we're incredibly pleased to say that update #15 is officially "Phase 2" of our roadmap. Bringing with it huge swathes of changes and improvements, we've been working hard to not only listen to feedback, but bring even more content to Black Geyser.



    • Additional Main Quests: Choices you take affect the game world and the overall story in the last chapter.
    • Fresh Side Quests: A variety of new side quests have been added, including long anticipated companion quests.
    • Re-imagined Starting Experience: The games introduction has been completely, revamped with more information, more player guidance and options for how to complete it
    • 6 New Locations: Bringing with it a group of areas from the frozen north, Phase 2 also brings two dungeon areas for players to explore.
    • Character Generation Refinements: The first of two significant improvements to character creation is an improved experience as well as improved UI.
    • Added new low-level spells: Who doesn't want greater flexibility on casters when starting out?
    • Spell & Item Refinements: Weve rebalanced spells and items to give greater selection, and more power where its needed.
    • Combat Update: Damage scaling has been reworked alongside fairer damage interruption.
    • New Temple UI: For recovering from healing and reviving characters, removing curses, and donating.
    • Fresh SFX: New sound sets for both male and female protagonists!

    Damage calculations in combat log are now explained in mouse-over tooltips! The same feature is offered whenever you move the mouse pointer over effect names in descriptions.     Our 12th update is a significant milestone for Black Geyser, as it delivers the long awaited Mac & Linux update. We wanted to thank you all for your patience as we worked on this release, and we're also happy to say it brings with it a whole host of additional improvements, including more global performance tweaks. Here's the full details:

    • Party members can now be revived regardless of being gibbed on lower difficulties
    • Party members now respawn in full equipment when revived at temples at Novice and Normal Difficulties

    • Original party order is now restored when reviving party members
    • Summoning creatures now properly attack any hostile creature

    For our ninth update after launching into Early Access, it's smaller than some of those previous, but it brings a little bit of roleplay to Black Geyser. For lovers of old-school RPGs players can now choose to walk or run with their characters!

    Here's our fifth update after launch, that brings yet more fixes to Black Geyser. We're pleased to say one of these fixes includes the ability to scale your fonts to a size of your choosing!

    In the next few days we'll be rolling out a new way to report bugs and feedback, to make our internal processes simpler and to guarantee that all the information you're sending is filed, sorted and (hopefully) implemented.     The release of Black Geyser went as expected - busy, hectic, and tinged with relief at seeing the light of day. First of all, THANK YOU. Thanks to all of you who have dived into the game, sent your feedback and reports, or posted your review. It's been a whirlwind 24 hours!

    We go through everything you have written to us on the various channels and respond as much as we can. Sorry if we don't answer every individual post or comment, but we read them all, and they will be acted upon. As someone said in our discord, "Early Access means we listen to all feedback and consider them, to make this a great game together with our followers and players."

    We are already working on the first group of fixes and quality of life updates. Thanks to your feedback, there are several things we see that are bothering many on you, and of course we'll aim to focus on those. This initial patch is planned to go live later today after proper testing. We hope it improves your experience in the world of Black Geyser.

    We appreciate every piece of feedback and bug report. Some things can be done quickly, but others take more time to do properly. Please keep this in mind if your particular issue isn't yet addressed. We'll get to it as soon as we can!

    In our first update, we're going be tackling some of the most common and immersion-breaking bugs, plus a few other improvements. There will be details in the patch notes when it comes later today.

    An Update On Linux And Mac

    Unfortunately, in recent days weve encountered several critical issues on Mac and Linux that has led to use making the difficult decision to delay their respective releases by several weeks.
