Character Devlog January 2023 - Loukas Notaras

"I would rather see a Turkish turban in the midst of the City than the Latin mitre." What's new? It's been a while since our last development blog and we've made a lot of progress as The Fall of the Cross development team since then. New musics, new artworks, new dialogues, bug fixes, new menu designs and a lot more! With the help of a coding expert who has greatly benefited our team, we have both better understanded the mechanics of the Ren'Py game engine and introduced a lot of new things that will facilitate user access to our game. "Bring me his head Theophilos!" Theophilos Palaiologos was a 15th-century Greek and a cousin of Emperor Constantine XI. He was known for his strong nature, intelligence and distrust of anyone completely. Unfortunately, his devotion to his family often resulted in the Palaiologans using him. The loss of many of his family gave him the instinct to protect his emperor at the cost of his life. Whether or not to use this loyalty is in the hands of the players as always. GUI and Interface In our new devlog, we would like to inform you that we have greatly improved our GUI and interface to offer you an eye-catching demo gameplay. Who wouldn't want to see our great lord Jesus Christ all the time? Yeah, we thought so too and set our cursor as a crucified Jesus figure. There is something better, when you hover it at the choices, his body bleeds to remember the pain he has suffered for us.
And at the same time, you can examine the results of your choice with the new notify features we have introduced.
We're focused on enchanting you with our easy-on-the-eyes and medieval-themed color choices. With upcoming updates, our studio will continue to equip The Fall of the Cross with new content. "I would rather see a Turkish turban in the midst of the City than the Latin mitre." One of our iconic characters is Loukas Notaras, a very wealthy, connected and popular figure who was the Megaduke of Eastern Rome in 1450. The famous 'I would rather see a Turkish turban in the midst of the City than the Latin mitre.' was his quote. Serving loyally to the Palaiologos dynasty, Notaras was known as the richest man in the Balkans before Constantinople was besieged. He placed the famous spy Mikael Misriin under the emperor's command to serve on behalf of Byzantium. He was known for his hatred and distrust of Catholics. This was probably due to the sacking of Constantinople by the crusaders in the fourth crusade. Although many thought he was a traitor, when the city was besieged, Loukas chose to help the emperor with everything he had instead of fleeing. Thanks for reading the January Devlog. Enjoy!

Character Devlog November 2021 - Mary Lefko

Our Character Development Process As The Fall of the Cross development team, our main goal is to develop a production that appeals to all audiences. We carefully carry out the character development on the game. Every character, from small to large, has a back story, history and unique behavior. Every choice you make will improve your relationships with the characters. That's why you have to be careful while playing the Fall of the Cross. Character Developments As the emperor of the Eastern Roman Empire, you have many duties to both your people and your state. The most important of these is to have an heir who will continue the Palaiologos dynasty and maintain the Eastern Roman throne. In 1451, the emperor of Eastern Rome was the main character, Constantine XI. Although Contantine did not have any children, he had been married twice and he was single in 1451. Upon his death, one of his two brothers, who was the despots of the Morea, would succeed to the Eastern Roman throne. This is one of the key points of our game. While playing The Fall of the Cross, you will be able to see many possibilities and witness a very different scenario experience with different options. As the player, it is up to you to determine the personality of Emperor Constantine. If Constantine dies without an heir, one of his brothers will ascend the throne and the new main character will become the eldest brother as emperor. If Constantine dies with an heir, the child of Constantine, the new emperor of Eastern Rome will be the new main character. Constantine may never die, all of these, all these possibilities will offer you a uniqueness and perfection that you have never experienced before while playing the Fall of the Cross. The Characters Another key point of our game is our character depth. As we just mentioned, the Emperor must have an heir and the player will be presented with different options for a reasonable marriage. The character of Mary Lefko is one of them. By 1451, Eastern Rome had lost much of its former power. The Byzantine aristocracy was slowly fading away, and the Emperor's influence was greatly diminished in the surrounding states. The Ottoman state had besieged God's city many times before and had failed. Besides, because of wars and many other reasons, the relations between Byzantium and Turks were quite bad. Eastern Rome was a Greek state and was Orthodox. Although the Duchy of Athens, a former Crusader state, was now the vassal of the emperor in Constantinople, a marriage with Athens was a remote possibility, as the Greeks-Latins and Orthodox-Catholic relations were largely bad due to the Fourth Crusade. After the Fourth Crusade, the Komnenos dynasty, one of the former heirs of the Empire, founded the Empire of Trebizond and sometimes introduced themselves as the true heirs of Rome. Therefore, even though they were separated with the Palaiologos dynasty, the two Greek Orthodox states were close and the Komnenian women were famous for their beauty and intelligence. Another state that separated from Eastern Rome was the Principality of Theodoro. With this state, which was isolated from Europe due to its location and changed its Greek origin to a great extent with Gothicism, a marriage could also be in question, if the nobles of Constantinople allowed it. The choice is always yours! Mary Lefko As we mentioned before, alternative scenarios are allowed in our game and fictional characters are in our project. One of them is Mary Lefko, one of the marriage candidates of Emperor Constantine. With her meticulously created biography, Mary Lefko has managed to become one of the most outstanding characters of our play. Coming with her mother from Jerusalem to Constantinople in 1451, Mary was an Orthodox Christian like her Greek mother, despite the great pressure of her Jewish father. Searching for a new life in Constantinople, Mary was left penniless after her separation from her father, and possibilities awaited her on her way to God's city that she never thought possible. Thanks for reading the November Devlog. Enjoy!

  • The Fall of the Cross will take you to Europe's most complex period for an ultra-medieval feel. In 1451, the Eastern Roman Empire, the successor of the ancient Great Roman civilization in the East, isolated from the West, was experiencing the worst period in its history. The empire, which suffered from regression and great territorial losses with the great defeat against the Turks in Manzikert, had been dealing with internal problems and intrigues since its establishment. In 1451, Eastern Rome was too small to be called an Empire, but it was able to stand with the aid of a walking stick, thanks to those determined to keep the Roman aristocracy alive. Constantine, who came to the throne with the death of the previous Emperor Manuel, could not show the Roman aristocracy with great lust, even though he had the same name as the capital of his country. Still, the emperor knew his responsibility. Protect the city! Whatever happens! While the Catholic pressure of the Vatican in the west is concentrated on Constantinople and while the Greek people's adherence to Orthodox ties with great respect was a nightmare for the Emperor, whose his city is surrounded by the Turks on both sides. But this is not the time to give up. The right decisions can raise the prosperity of the country again. Will help be sought from the Pope? Will the Greek peoples rise up on their own? Or will Constantinople be doomed to this terrible fate of ruin? Which path to choose? Be on the side of the Emperor Constantine in this tale of intrigue and adventure.
