New DLC, Achievements and more!

A massive thank you to all of you for supporting WooLoop over the year! It has almost been a whole year since we released WooLoop last January already! 2023 saw 12 DLC, 372 Levels and 129,000 unique players playing WooLoop over the year! That is absolutely staggering for a small indie studio like us! Thank you all so much! Your support is what motivates us and allows us to keep on doing what we love. Making games for you all to enjoy.

DLC in 2024

When we released WooLoop way back in January 2023, we committed to 12 additional DLC Galleries. From Fantasy, Food, Nature and to the most recent, Advent. We have achieved that goal! Thank you all for your interest and for playing along with us throughout the year.

But what does that mean for the future of WooLoop?

Don't worry! We are now committed to an additional 6 DLC that we will be releasing over 2024, starting this February with the upcoming Science Gallery!
We will be releasing DLC on a bi-monthly schedule all the way up to December, so there'll be plenty more wrapping and looping for you to get tangled up in.

The Science DLC was voted for by our very own Patreon supporters! But you don't need to be a Patreon to have your say. Join our Discord and share with us what Gallery ideas you would like to see in WooLoop. These suggestions go into a list for all our Discord users to vote on, the top 5 voted of these suggestions will be passed over to our Patreons every other month to make the final decision on what DLC we will all see next! Achievements

A long-awaited change is coming right now! Upon release of WooLoop, we were only able to add 100 achievements, and these didn't even count towards your Steam profile! Boooo!





Thankfully, due to your continued love and support of WooLoop, Steam has recognised our game and we can now add more Steam achievements that will also be counted on your profiles! Yayyy! We have been hard at work this week making all of the achievement icons and getting them uploaded to Steam. Make sure you launch your game and reopen any completed levels to trigger the new achievements. Note: We have focused on getting the achievements uploaded in English only for the moment so that they are available ASAP. To our beloved worldwide players who play WooLoop in other languages than English, we will be making sure all the achievements are localised to all of the Steam-supported languages soon.tm Thank you for your patience!

If you have played our other titles, like Coloring Pixels, you will know we all love the Christmas Season and like to celebrate in style! WooLoop is no exception. You will notice that no matter what image you are playing, there are snowflakes falling all around your beautiful creations and melting at the bottom of the screen!
This is our brand-new Christmas Seasonal Effect! During the whole month of December, from the 1st to the 31st (and for every December yet to come!), to get us all in the Christmas spirit we have added this wintery theme for you all you enjoy! If you find the snow too distracting, we have you covered. You can choose to take part by enabling or disabling "Seasonal Effects" on the settings page. The seasonal effect will play on the Advent Gallery all year round so don't worry about missing out!

Follow Our Progress!

Skystead Ranch is still a very much work in progress. All of the imagery and game footage you see is pre-release Demo so the end result may vary. • New setting "Disable Zoom Snapping" (default off) - When enabled the player won't be forced to zoom in close to play but can instead zoom very far out and play from a distance.

WooLoop V1.3.8 Patch Notes

New Features

• New Setting "Disable Timelapse" (default off) - One for the speedrunners, when this setting is enabled, the end-of-level animation is greatly sped up.
• New Setting "Show Personal Best" (default off) - When enabled, your personal best times are shown for each level on the Main Menu. Sadly, you will have to launch a level for it to pull the current time before it will become visible. This is because we have only been tracking the current completion time for each individual level, but now we track your personal best as well.
• You can now cycle between selected ropes with Q + E.
• Main Menu level pictures now show a hint of the level's background colour when complete.
• The rope select palette now gets centred in the middle of the screen when there is no scrollbar.

Bug Fixes and Misc

• Fixed a bug where you could keep wrapping between the last two instructions without it registering as incorrect.
• Adjusted the colours available for New Game Plus customisation. The new colours should be more evenly distributed across the spectrum and New Game Plus 4 now has 12 additional colour options.
• Some minor optimisation for more powerful machines, the game now won't use as much CPU.
• UI instructions can't hide behind the rope palette anymore.
• Level screenshots are now synced with Steam Cloud.
• Added milliseconds to the timer.
• The game should now attempt to save your level progress if it closes unexpectantly.
• Fixed a bug where you could click on the palette when it was invisible.
• When you have the Russian language selected, the ability to change the font is disabled. This is due to the current font options don't support Russian characters.

First Week is a Success - Thank You!

WooLoop has been downloaded and played by so many of you! Your reception of the game has completely blown us away and we can't thank you enough! You have all played enough collectively for over 4 and a half years of playtime! For one week of gameplay that is staggering! Well done! All of your feedback and comments are welcome, thank you to everyone who has helped identify improvements and suggestions for the game, a lot of which we have addressed in this patch. Please keep your comments coming, either on Discord, Steam or even on our Website, so we can keep improving WooLoop to the best of our abilities.

A Note on Achievements

This patch brings Gallery 5, which was missing from the launch of the game. The Gallery has 21 images just like all the rest, however; Only the first 6 levels have achievements tied to them. The reason for this is that we have hit the limit of 100 achievements that are linked to new games. Once we pass Steam's checks and become an official release on Steam, we will be updating the Achievement list to include the rest of Gallery 5 and beyond. Thank you for your understanding.

In case you missed it, we have the first DLC for WooLoop releasing next Friday! The Fantasy DLC adds a whole new Gallery to the game with 21 new images for you to Loop! • Gallery 5! - We finished the levels for Gallery 5, so there are an additional 17 levels to play!
• Dark Mode Improvements - Multiple changes to dark mode, to make the game much easier to play at night!
• New "Always Show Rope Length" Setting (Default Off) - When enabled, the currently selected rope length and progress is visible in the top left of the screen. This is also viewable by pressing tab.
• Main Menu Scrolling - The main menu gallery scroll position is remembered when you return from a level.
• New "Disable Autopanning" Setting (Default Off) - When enabled, the automatic movement you get when completing a rope is disabled.
• New "Autopanning Speed" Setting (Default 1x) - Adjusts the speed of the auto movement.

• When starting a rope, the string now only sticks to the starting instruction. This should make it easier to get started with a route.

1 Week to go!

That's right, WooLoop is right around the corner! We are so excited about the release and hope you are too. Officially releasing next Friday, the 13th of January - A Spooky date for sure with all the nerves we are feeling! What's left to do?

3 main things are in progress for release.

Levels

We still have about 1 Gallery's worth of levels to complete for next week; this may seem like a lot which is why we have hired some extra help for the next couple of months! If you are in our Discord you will have seen a "Toastie_Icy" who is our new Level Designer helping Rob make the final levels for WooLoop.

Bug Fixing and QA Testing

Each new level needs playing to ensure there are no problems with the level before launch. As well as this, there are still a few minor bugs that are being corrected; each one needs double-checking and thorough testing.

Marketing

As a small indie company, we have little to no marketing budget, so all marketing is done in-house. This week we went full throttle on our media outreach, contacting numerous press sites, bloggers, content creators and reviewers. This is the majority of the work done but it will need constant monitoring and input from us up to release. Keep an eye out on your social media, YouTube and Twitch to see people with early access play our game before Friday!

Happy New Year!

We are all back to work for 2023 and hope you have all had an enjoyable Holiday and New Year! We have relaxed as much as we can to get ready for the next couple of very busy weeks as we get ready for the release of WooLoop!

Only 10 days until release!

We are counting down the final days until release and we are very excited! We are also very busy with the final preparations. Rob is currently working through the final graphical bugs we have found in order to make sure the game is as clean as possible for release. Lee is starting all of the contacts and messages to content creators, Steam curators and press companies for our main marketing push. All that is left is a number of levels that are still left to be made, in order to hit this deadline we are very excited to say we have hired a temporary level designer to help Rob with our level creation!

WooLoop Game Pricing

WooLoop will be Free! Here at ToastieLabs, we believe games should be for everyone. With that in mind, like some of our other titles on Steam, we release games for free and offer optional DLC at the lowest price we can on Steam $0.99! The game will be Free and offer 5 Galleries (plus 1 Bonus Gallery) of string art to complete! Each Gallery will contain 21 unique pieces of art for you to create. After some quick maths, this means you will get over 100 levels to play for free when you download WooLoop!

DLC

In order to provide even more levels for you to play, we are committing to offering 12 months of DLC, 1 DLC for each month of 2023! Each DLC will contain a new Gallery of 21 pieces of art, we are going to be offering these DLC at $0.99 (the lowest price Steam allows). Each DLC will launch on the 4th Friday of each month, with the exception of December's planned DLC "Advent", which will feature 24 levels and slight changes to the release schedule which we will confirm at a later date. Over the course of the 12 months of releases, that will be an additional 255 Levels to play! We hope this will be plenty to keep you entertained through the year 2023. Also, make sure to join our Discord as we will be doing monthly giveaways for each DLC!

Game Progress

It has been a hectic couple of weeks where we have made many updates to the appearance of the game in order to look as good as possible for the Game Trailer which we have just started editing! New Features

• Allow players to use Right-Click to move without triggering the UI snap-back
• Added toggle click to pick up and put down the rope as an alternative to holding left click
• Added background colours to levels

Bug Fixes:

• Rope clipping on Tree House Level
• Fixed instructions turning yellow when the next instruction is anti-clockwise
• Fixed UI instruction wiggle
• Fixed off-screen instructions breaking

Most of the adjustments were for visual updates in order to make the game as aesthetic as possible when recording clips for the game trailer which will be released in the coming weeks. This along with multiple new levels as we are ramping up level creation in preparation for sharing Early Access keys for marketing purposes!

Game Progress

As most of the bug fixing from last week is being tied up, we have moved on to some of the finishing touches! The UI has been finalised before the next stage of QA testing and we have made a start on the New Game+ mechanics! New Features

• New Game+ Unlocks customisable colours for the ropes!
• UI changed to reduce clutter
• Color coded clockwise and anti-clockwise

Bug Fixes:

• Fixed a bug where the Red X UI sometimes wasn't red.
• Fixed new pin resetting the rope colour to grey

As it says above, the big news is that we have added the ability to unlock additional, customisable colours for the ropes in every level which is unlocked via New game+ This is a very exciting direction for us as we have never had a New Game+ mechanic with an actual in-game reward, we hope this is a fun direction to go and we will be thoroughly testing this in this week's QA Livestream

Game Progress

Following the live stream QA Testing on Friday, we have sat down and rethought our approach towards the in-level instructions. This has been the focus of this weeks work along with some minor bug fixing from the reports we found on Friday. Bug Fixes:

• Spelling Mistakes corrected on the settings page.
• Fixed an FPS drop issue
• Re-Fixed 180degree instructions showing incorrectly
• Fixed the ability to zoom in further than the screen lets you
• Changed the UI for the head of the rope to make it always visible
• Changed the appearance of the Gallery name pop-ups to differentiate between them and the UI buttons.

After testing the new control system we are happy with the direction it takes the game feel but we know it needs tweaking to make it smoother. This is being looked at with 3 main points to address.

• Make the movement smoother/less snappy
• Address the camera movement making the player over-move if they are moving the mouse simultaneously.
• Find a better solution for pins that are far apart without forcing the game to zoom out.

We have discussed a method to address the in-level UI as currently, the UI often overlaps each other and simply making the UI smaller to prevent this makes it hard to read when zoomed out. We are trialling a solution this week of adding a UI bar with "rope selection" to remove all of the clutter from the screen and only give the player one set of instructions at a time. Check back next week to see what progress we have on this.

Game Progress

Time this week has been split between 2 main parts of Game Development. Bug Fixing and New Levels! The bugs we found in the last live stream have all about been wrapped up! Most of the smaller bugs were addressed last week with the larger issues being corrected this week. Bug Fixes and Changes:

• Screenpanning with the mouse has been adjusted for better corner control.
• Fixed leftover rope being stuck on screen on small routes.
• Fixed 180degree instructions showing incorrectly
• Tweaked large instructions to make them easier to read

These adjustments will be tested in the next QA pass, especially the instruction sizes as we need to find a sweet spot for readability. Progress has continued in creating new levels as we move closer to release. We have timed how long it takes to make each level in preparation to make a more in-depth project plan that incorporates more accurate time scales for level creation. Here is another sneak peek!

Game Progress

Another very busy week! Our Stream on Friday helped us discover a number of bugs which we recorded for Rob to address. This week has been spent fixing the majority of these bugs along with more improvements to the UI and game controls. Bug Fixes:

• The timer now resets when you New Game+ (NG+) a level
• You can now NG+ a level as often as you like without breaking the menu UI
• "Hide Level Names" now updates the currently loaded Gallery instantly
• Typo corrections
• Added a scroll bar to the settings page
• Adjusted the end-of-level animation to start according to the current zoom level

Other than fixes and improvement, we have finally begun work on new levels, here is a sneak peek!
As always with these update posts, this is a work-in-progress level so you will likely see alterations before the game goes live.

Game Progress

It's been another very busy week for WooLoop development, so much so that the game has very notable, huge differences since last week! Saving and Loading has been fully implemented and is ready to go, thorough testing is still required but this is a big step towards finalising WooLoop for release. A number of Quality of Life improvements have been implemented this week too:

• Increased Instruction size and zoom levels
• QOL changes to screen panning
• Loop counter, % progress and timer

Ongoing bug fixing has been happening throughout as well as we address the number of bugs you reported during the Next Fest Demo. One of the biggest changes we have made this week is to the pins, taking your feedback on board about being too colourful and distracting, we have made the pins match the game art on Steam as well as adding a gradient colour to highlight the route you are taking, see the GIF below as an example.
Please note this is still work-in-progress so expect to see changes before release.

Game Progress

We have had a busy week making progress on WooLoop, the big changes we have made are:

• End-of-level animation has been implemented
• Improved the background design in level
• Changed the framing of the artwork
• Made a good start on Saving and Loading

Work is continuing this week on the saving and loading along with an overhaul to the UI with the help of our artist Jack.

Last week we tested out Livestreaming to both Steam and Twitch at the same time. This was our first attempt at multi-streaming and our first time streaming to a different platform. The testing went well and we are scheduled to stream bi-weekly on Fridays starting next week, Friday the 28th. Tune in on Twitch to chat with us live! Your Feedback matters

Behind the scenes, we spent all week collecting and analysing your feedback. Here is a snippet of the things we have taken on board for development (plus some extra we already had in the pipeline)

• Save Files - This is a given for a complete game, don't worry that these are missing from the Demo
• Alternate Controls - Many players reported that holding to drag the Wool can be strenuous, we are committing to improving the control system to make it easier.
• Zoom Alterations - We are going to give the player more control over how the Zooming works
• Visual updates to the Background and Frames - this is an additional method alongside a better Dark Mode to make the game less bright.
• Even better instructions - We made last-minute updates to the instructions before the Next Fest began but from your feedback we know we can make these even better!
• Plus even more!

Our Next Steps

Following the Feedback and project planning we have done this week, we are approaching finalising the facts and figures for the full release of WooLoop. We are sticking to a January 2023 release and committing to adding all of the feedback above to the game before release. Next Fest Mid Week Update

We're only 3 days through the Steam Next Fest and we are blown away by your reception and appreciation of WooLoop! We worked tirelessly over the past week to make sure the Demo was as ready as it could be, taking players' feedback on board we added new features to make the gameplay smoother and more relaxing. As well as tackling a number of pesky bugs. Based on your community feedback, Rob has made some considerable changes to the game which you can see below.

V0.106 Patch Notes

New Features

• Added a new Accessibility tab in the Settings menu
• Added a new setting "Edge Of Screen Panning" (defaulted to on) - When enabled, the screen can pan when you reach the edge of the screen with a rope.
• Added a new setting "Panning Speed" (defaulted to 1x) - This setting lets you control the speed at which the edge of the screen panning setting and keyboard controls move the camera.
• Added a new setting "Dark Mode" (defaulted to off) - Requested by our community, so we did it <3. This is a work in progress, we hope to add more to this feature in the future.

Bug Fixes

• Edge of screen panning changes
  • It now works when you have let go of the rope
  • We have also shortened the distance from the edge of the window before it activates
  • It now stops when the game loses focus
• Major improvements to the responsiveness and visibility of instructions

  • The changing colour of instructions is much more responsive. Now light blue should always be the instruction you need to complete, and dark blue is a previous instruction.

What is WooLoop?

WooLoop is a game of creation. You build great works of art by dragging your yarn in loops around various pins in your canvas. Slowly, one thread at a time, patterns will form until you eventually construct a beautifully woven masterpiece.
Inspired by our community of players who enjoy creative, relaxing games. We wanted to design something brand new that scratches the same itch, so when you play WooLoop, make sure you are ready to unwind for the day and settle back to the soothing music and relaxing gameplay!

Our Next Fest Schedule

During the Steam Next Fest we will be broadcasting the game live twice!

• Tuesday the 4th of October at 7pm BST (11am PT)
• Thursday the 6th of October at 1pm BST (5am PT)

Stop by for these live streams to say hi to the developers who will be playing the game and active in the chat - we will be streaming for around an hour and will be available to answer any and all of your questions. WooLoop Full Release

The demo available now is not the full game that you will get upon release. The Demo includes 18 different art pieces for you to enjoy, a small portion of the images that will be available with the release of WooLoop. WooLoop is planned to be released in January 2023, not that long away! The game will be Free when released. If you really enjoy playing the Free game, additional DLC will be available over the following 12 months for you to purchase more levels to keep you winding and looping. The exact number of art pieces per DLC is yet to be finalised as we are still collecting data on playtime and what images are most enjoyable to play. With this in mind, please note that when you finish playing the Demo, you will be prompted to fill in an optional questionnaire about your experience with WooLoop. We will be very appreciative if you are able to take 5 minutes to let us know about your time playing - most of the improvements we have made to WooLoop over the past couple of weeks have come directly from our player's feedback! We will be collecting and analysing all of your responses over the week of Next Fest and will post an update on what changes and features we are going to make based on your feedback. What is Steam Next Fest?

Steam Next Fest is a multi-day celebration where fans can try out demos, chat with developers, watch live streams, and learn about upcoming games on Steam. We are very excited to announce that we are taking part with our newest game, WooLoop. WooLoop Demo!

The free WooLoop Demo is available right now! We have made the game available early, ahead of the October Next Fest starting next week. So if you would like to give our game a try now is the time to do so! The full release of the game will be free so the Demo shows off a snippet of what the game will be upon release. Bug Fixes

• Edge of screen panning changes
  • It now works when you have let go of the rope
  • We have also shortened the distance from the edge of the window before it activates
  • It now stops when the game loses focus
• Major improvements to the responsiveness and visibility of instructions
  • Reduced the number of upcoming instructions visible at once
  • The changing colour of instructions is much more responsive. Now light blue should always be the instruction you need to complete, and dark blue is a previous instruction.
  • When an instruction is offscreen, if it is light blue it will always be full scale
• Main Menu Scroll bars have been added
• Main Menu scroll speed has been increased

• Added new Accessibility tab in the Settings menu
• Added new setting "Edge Of Screen Panning" (defaulted to on) - When enabled, the screen can pan when you reach the edge of the screen with a rope.
• Added new setting "Panning Speed" (defaulted to 1x) - This setting lets you control the speed at which the edge of the screen panning setting and keyboard controls move the camera.
• Added new setting "Dark Mode" (defaulted to off) - Requested by our community, so we did it <3. This is a work in progress, we hope to add more to this feature in the future.

Streaming Live!

We're still in the early stages of development but a lot has changed in WooLoop since last week! What we have done

Firstly we want to thank all of you who stopped by to watch us broadcast the early stages of WooLoop last Friday! <3 If you missed it and want to watch us play the game in its early stages, keep your eyes out this Friday for us to stream it live again! Since the stream, Rob has made some considerable changes to the game.

Bug Fixes:

• Fixed the Music slider in the Audio Settings
• Added Keyboard controls for camera movement
• Fixed Instruction Icons so they point in the correct direction all the time*
• Correctly detect when you are touching the wrong pin*

New Additions

• Added a Discord link button
• Added an end of the level process
• Added a "Full Disclosure" message for the Demo build
• Added an optional Demo questionnaire to get game feedback
• Added 9+ new levels!*

* These fixes are still in the QA process so we'll be looking out for them on Friday's live stream

What's coming next?

The biggest news we have this week is that the demo build has been approved by Steam and will be going live next week on the 22nd! This is so we have the Demo live and ready for the Steam Next Fest that is beginning in October - feel free to download the from the store page when it comes out but please note the game is due multiple updates and changes in time for the Next Fest. As well as this, we will continue to stream the game on Fridays and follow up each week with dev updates. Streaming Live!

Get the very first public look at WooLoop gameplay directly from the developers today! We will be streaming some of the currently ready levels today to show off what the gameplay will look like as well as allowing us to test the game and note down any bugs or features that need addressing. We will be streaming live at around 1:30PM BST for about 30 to 45 minutes (no strict time frame) with chat enabled so if you want to come along and say hi and ask any questions, please do! I am currently setting up the hardware in our new office so we expect a couple of teething issues with the first stream or two, we thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. p.s. The game is still in its very early stages so we expect to find a few problems and things like the UI and game menu aren't finished yet

If you already follow our other games on Steam, you may have seen snippets of WooLoop in our Dev Vlogs over the past year. A project Rob started in his spare time last Christmas! A different take on our beloved game Coloring Pixels. The same relaxing and rewarding game feel but this time in a more creatively expressive manner!

What is WooLoop?

WooLoop is a game of creation. You build up great works of art by dragging your yarn in loops around various pins in your canvas. Slowly, one thread at a time, patterns will form, until eventually, you construct a beautifully woven masterpiece.
Wrap, weave, and wind your wool! Build works of art strand by strand, one loop at a time, in this tranquil game of craftsmanship. Draw inspiration from the large exhibition of levels available and unwind with the soothing soundtrack.

Follow Our Progress!

WooLoop is still a work in progress. Make sure you check out our Weekly Dev Vlogs on YouTube as well as Wishlisting the game on Steam to be kept up to date with all of the progress we make! We are planning to hold weekly Developer Broadcasts here on the Steam store page every Friday around 1 pm British Time so make sure you tune in for live interaction about the game! Release Date

We are preparing to offer a Steam Demo during the October Next Fest next month! The full release of the game will be in early 2023, with exact dates to be confirmed
