2.0.5's BETA is available !



[h2]Changes[/h2]


  • A new dock with information about the data sent to the server.

  • The context used to be x characters long, even if it cuts a sentence in the mi (middle of a word like what just happened). Now it will try to not cut any sentence.

  • The story now supports BBcode. The inputs should appear in bold (Result might changes depending of your font)

  • Added an option to choose the color of the highlighted text

  • The keywords of the lorebook are now highlighted in the input bar! (It has some limitation regarding caps. Moreover, keywords with whitespace aren't highlighted)

  • Fixed the menu asking you to load the generator, never selecting the default AI.

  • The same menu and the server menu now automatically refresh the list of AIs when you delete or download one.

  • Added an in game wiki (There isn't much articles for now)

  • Added a popup to help users having the "Cuda out of memory" error.

    • Option to open the wiki to understand how to fix it

    • Option to automatically downgrade settings to reduce the chance of encountering this error again

  • Added a fallback to change the value of torch_dtype to avoid the "topk_cpu" not implemented for 'Half' error.

Community report of May 2024

Hello everyone, Im publishing a dev log for this month with an important info!

[h2]New job[/h2]

I finished my job at the university last month. I should have a new job in the following weeks.
But, this job will be a full-time one. I found out part-time is hard/impossible to find in my country in my domain.
Everyone wants to hire you for endless contracts at full-time (which is good, but not what I needed).


But there is something cool about this job. In 2 years, I will be allowed to turn it into a stable part-time job. Therefore, it will ensure I can both live and work on my company. So thats a good point.


Of course, it means AIdventures development will SLOW DOWN until that time. Because of it, I will be focusing on small tasks and dont implement new features, small tasks like quality of life (QoL), text to speech, bug fixes, auto-translation, that kind of stuff.


So, AIdventure should still get better, but without anything significant change.

[h2]Epic game release and adult content :O (Click bait)[/h2]

I first planned to release AIdventure on Epic the 1st May, but it was impossible because I forgot I had
NSFW AIs downloadable, and Epic doesnt accept adult games. So it delayed the launch.
But, good point is, I will soon publish a SFW version on Itch as well, in case parents want to show this
game to their kids.

As I said, I will focus on QoL improvements and bug fixes.

You can see on this graph all my tasks organized by area.


As you can see, I have much to do!

Im going to publish it as often as I can in the experimental branch on Steam. Dont hesitate to try it and give me feed back about the changes!

Hi everyone.

Im releasing a patch today. Its focusing on quality of life improvements and bug fixes.

  • Added a confirmation dialog when trying to close the AI options menu without saving changes.

  • AI settings are now hidden until you select an AI.

  • Changed of logging system

  • All the logs (servers and clients) are now centralized in a single logs.txt file inside the games folder.

  • Updated the settings preset and auto preset to reduce the users memory input by 1Gb to limit the risk of memory overflow during generation of big stories.

  • Fixed English being an option when selecting an AI translator (Led to crash)

  • Fixed the extreme and major success of rolls being (x < stat/5 and x < stats/2 where it should be <= instead.)

  • Fixed the settings preset and auto preset not taking account of users inputs.

  • Fixed the text in the confirmation dialog when downloading a translator.

Community Report of March 2024!

Hi everyone, Im publishing a new community report. Its been 2 months since the last report (January) because February was very busy.

[h2]New jobs[/h2]

As you probably know (from my announcement about my Ko-fi page). I have to work once again (on something else than AIdventure) to pay the bills.


From February to April, Im giving lessons at university to teach programming.
Its cool but takes a good part of my time (as I have to write courses).


After April, I will be looking for full-time jobs (I hope to find some with short duration to not put AIdventure on hold for too long!)


No worries, AIdventures development will only be on halt during that time (I plan to not spend all my free time working on AIdventure like I did in 2022-2023). Im never going to cancel it! The development will resume at the end of my contract (I will have more specific info once I actually find a full-time job).

[h2]The 2.0 rush[/h2]

As you maybe noticed, the release of the 2.0 happened a few days before the Steam Remote Play festival. It was my intention since November to publish the 2.0 by that time and announce the support of the Remote Play Together.


Im satisfied by this new version, it looks awesome and thanks to the beta testers it was a good release.

[h2]AIdventure coming out on Epic Games[/h2]

AIdventure should be released on Epic Games by the end of the month (if everything goes smoothly). The point of releasing the game on more shops is to increase the visibility, hence, the sales (money)

[h2]Localization[/h2]

If you follow every update, you also noticed I released the game in French, Russian and Turkish. I always planned to support many languages, and the 2.0 is a good base for exporting the game to more markets. I will support more languages in the following weeks. It costs money, but I think its worth.

[h2]The next big update???[/h2]

For now, I had no time to decide what will be the next big update (Maybe the RPG extension). I have been working on legal stuff, localization, the new shop and fixing small problems.


So, I will soon have a look at the possible new updates and create a poll.

[h2]Why am I accepting subscriptions?[/h2]

AIdventure is a project I love. At first, it was a simple Python file to experiment text generation.
I was using AIdungeon and was enjoying it. Then, Latitude changed some things and I hated it!
(Spying on me was also a very bad habit of them)
Then, I thought

Alright, if I cant play AIdungeon as I want, I will make my own!

(its probably a very bad behaviour, not sure, lol).


At the same time, I lost my job (Covid, you know) and got 4 months of free time ahead of me! So I worked full-time on this nameless prototype. I came up with a name and the 25 December 2021, I rushed the publication.


(No joke!, see this proof)



I couldnt actually believe that much people would find it cool! All your feed-back convinced me it was worth finishing this project!


After this, I worked when I had free time (mostly on my week ends and vacations) on this game.
And since September 2023 until today, I worked full-time on it once again! While It was great to make progress, my bank account didnt like it! :)


So Im now going to work (full time / part time) again. This subscription system is a safe solution to get money while working on AIdventure. Thats why Im starting it!


And of course, if I can get enough, it will mean I can work full-time on AIdventure!

    Hi everyone, today I publish a small patch.

    - Translated the interface into French !
    - GPT-Neo-2.7B-Picard is now the default AI, it's shipped with the game on Steam version.
    - GPT-Neo-2.7B-Picard is now available in the demo !
    - Fixed the server failing to restart.
    - Updated the display of the server's logs to be more readable.
    - Added legal info about the game on the splash screen and credits.
    - Fixed the Steam Workshop upload of new items not working.

    - Fix the tooltip of the scenario displaying the wrong scenario's memory.

    There is a problem for using dropdown menu on Windows when the full-screen is activated.

    More than 500 commits and 650 files changed! AIdventure 2.0.0 is the biggest update the game had since its creation!


    Its mostly under the hood changes and a new interface. But its paving down the way for the next big updates!

  • Verify the AI settings. They will be reset and automatically defined at the first start.

  • The AIs are now organized in a new folders tree.



    • models/

      • translators/ move translators here





  • The AIs are now stored in the app data folder. Except gpt2-large You can keep it in models/generators/LyaaaaaGames/.



    • Windows: %APPDATA%\aidventure\models

    • Linux: ~/.local/share/aidventure\models Might vary.



    To simplify moving your AIs, you can open the game, go to the AI options, and click on Open AI folder, then move your AIs here (the new folders will already be created).

    • Upgraded the engine (Godot 3.5 Godot 4.2)

    • FULL REWORK of the interface (See details below).

    • Sliders are now used for many options.

    • Settings for AIs are now saved individually (You can have different settings for each AI).

    • Added in the options a default AI (will be selected by default)

    • Buttons now do a sound.

    • Added a ding sound when the generation is over.

    • Settings are now semi-automatically defined depending on your hardware

    • Added settings preset to simplify modification of the Generators settings.

    • Merging lore books together is now possible.

    • You can now download AIs in the background while playing.

    • You can now queue AIs to download.

    • PRESSING ENTER IN THE INPUT BAR NOW GENERATES (YES, PEOPLE, I HEARD YOU. One day, I will allow you to change shortcuts!).

    • AIs are now directly downloaded in the right folder (They are no longer moved after the download).

    • Added School-Setting tag (cuz why not. Suggest new tags if you want).

    • Changing the point of view in the settings doesnt require restarting the game any more.

    • Fixed two English mistakes in some default scenarios

    Hi everyone, Im publishing a hotfix for the 2.0.0.BETA. It fixes a few urgent problems.
    [h2]Important info about AIs[/h2]
    The AIs are now stored in a new folder. Instead of being in the games folder, they will now be in the users data folder.

    To move your AIs, open the old folder path/to/game/models and move them to this folder:

    Windows: %APPDATA%\aidventure\models
    Linux: ~/.local/share/aidventure\models

    Dont forget to use the new hierarchy:

    models/
    -- translators/
    -- generators/
    -- customs/

    • The text inside the input bar will now be wrapped (instead of having a horizontal scroll bar).
    • Fixed the lorebook not being saved when editing it during a game.
    • The text inside the notification wont be clipped any more.
    • Fixed the download error of AIs.
    • Fixed the list of saves expending over its boundaries.
    • Updated the server logs display to scroll down automatically as new text appears.
    • Disabled the button load translator until you select a translator.
    • Fixed duplication in the context leading to the AI repeating your inputs.
    • Fixed the context and memory being repeated in the AIs output when using the automatic translation

    I have more stuff to fix and the localization to update. But you can expect the stable release for the 12th.

    Because its already 648 modified files and more than 400 commits, the changelog will be published later.

    Important point. The path for the AIs changed. Make sure to follow this new folder tree and to move your AIs to keep them.

    Community Report of January 2024!

    Hi everyone, for this month Im publishing a small report because the priority is to release the 2.0.0 as fast as possible.


    As I explained in my last report, the rework of the UI led to a lot of stuff being rewritten.
    Therefore, the next version wont be tagged 1.6.0 but 2.0.0.

    [h2]The new theme[/h2]

    The artist working on the new theme is almost done, and the theme will be ready by the time I finish the 2.0.0

    I also plan to allow the users to load the theme with different colours (Though, this might not be ready for the 2.0.0) or custom themes.

    [h2]Merging lorebook[/h2]

    In the future release, it will also be possible to merge lorebooks (even from the Steam Workshop) together!

    The support of the custom AIs will finally be back! Say farewell to the annoying procedure to test a new AI. Just click on download custom AI, enter its name and wait until the end of the download!


    Moreover, the AI will be saved in small parts to be as optimized as supported AIs! Of course, as they arent tested before, they might not work. But it will be way simpler to try out.

    Release 1.5.3

    Hello everyone. I'm publishing a small patch.
    It should be the last one before the 1.6.0.


    Changelog

    [h2]Client[/h2]

    - Fixed the "copying and pasting" error (Making the AI repeating the story/memory/lore book 'randomly')
    - Fixed the first person mod not working as expected.
    - Updated the German localization. Thanks to Nyghtfall
    - Fixed the last unfinished sentence of the user's input being cut if the auto translation is enabled.
    - Fixed the crash when clicking on edit button in the load menu if no save is selected
    - Fixed the cancel button removing the last generated output.
    - Updated the code related to text manipulation

    The copying and pasting error is due to the AI removing whitespace before punctuation.
    If you encounter this error again, open and close the memory, save the story and open each entry of the lore book. The game will correct the typo by itself, and it shouldn't happen again.

    Release 1.5.2 - Performances and Bugfixes

    Hello everyone. Today I'm releasing a long awaited patch. It fixes bugs, expand the number of compatible graphical cards and greatly improve the performances.

    With all these changes you will have to redownload the AIs! You can delete the old ones.

    Here is a little summary of the improvements

    - No more memory peak when the AI is loading.
    - The possibility to specify how much memory you allow (on both CPU and GPU).
    - The option to use a folder to write data instead of storing it in the memory (It's called offloading).
    - Many new options for those who like to experiment.
    - AI split into parts of 200 MB to allow a better memory management.

    - Added 8 options. Here is a list of the most useful:
    - Offload model (Instead of running out of memory, the server will write on your disk)
    - limit_memory (Allows you to specify a maximum of memory for the server*)
    - gpu_max_memory (The maximum VRAM allowed)
    - cpu_max_memory (The maximum RAM allowed)
    - All the files needed for a model are now saved in the same folder.
    - Added `accessible_regular` font for better accessibility.
    - Updated the credits.
    - Fixed the server's logs never being displayed in the client.
    - Fixed an error when loading scenarios from the Steam Workshop.
    - Added the GPT4All-J model (Please, give me feedback about this model :))

    * The limit of memory isn't perfect. It's a limit only for loading AIs. During the generation you will go above it.

    - The AIs have all been modified (cut into small parts) to optimize their performances. You can learn more about how it works in this video

    It doesn't add any content but greatly improve the performances of the game.
    Because it brings a lot of breaking changes, it will remain in experimental for some time.

    - The models KoboldAI/GPT-J-6B-Adventure and KoboldAI/GPT-J-6B-Skein aren't supporting the new version yet.
    - You have to redownload all the models.

    - The AI's files are now all stored in the same folder in `models`
    - Added many new options to optimize the performances.
    - Added an option to allow the server to download the AI by itself (It will be useful for custom models, later).

    I'm only releasing it in beta for now because it can have big unexpected impacts.
    Therefore, I believe it is safer to make it available only for volunteers for now.

    Community report of April 2023

    Hi everyone. For this month I publish another small report !

    [h3]Server's dependencies[/h3]

    I updated the server and published a new version.
    It will be shipped with the game in the next release.
    The next release should come out by the end of the month or May. However, an experimental version (for those who can't wait)
    should come out earlier!

    I did some stats, and I'm happy to tell you the generation is now a bit faster.
    It is ~10% faster (9.5% for generation with CPU and 12% for GPU generation). Stats made with gpt2-large (for the CPU) and gpt2-medium (for the GPU)
    The bigger the AI the more significant will be this improvement.

    [h3]My current focus[/h3]

    Because of my limited time, I will focus mainly on fixing bugs and improving the server.
    About the server, I would like to implement the usage of both the CPU and GPU at the same time.
    This would be great for users willing to run the big AIs.

    [h3]A guide for players[/h3]

    As I said in the last report, we now have a very good and complete guide on Steam
    I recommend reading it. You will learn something (or many things) new!

    As I said in the previous report. I have a full time job and little time to work on AIdventure.

    The server runs on top of Transformers.
    The transformers' library had many updates and I plan to upgrade to a more recent version.

    By updating I hope to improve the stability, the performances and fix the GPU not working for some cards.

    Hi everyone. I wish you happy new year. Today's come out the first report of 2023.

    A few days ago I released the 1.5.0 which introduced the Steam Workshop. Now the next updates will be small patches to fix some problems.

    [h3]The Korean translator[/h3]

    In the 1.5.0 I tried a new type of AI to support the Korean. It was a failure and the Korean will be removed from the game until I have decent results. Sorry for the false hope.

    The Turkish translator has the same problem, but I'm replacing it with another one which gave good results during my tests.

    [h3]This year's plan[/h3]

    I'm still employed full time. This mean I won't have much time to update the game. During December, I had a lot of free time and managed to work a lot on AIdventure but, it was an exception.

    The next big update should be a full rework of the interface. The actual UI is... It is what it is. It will make the whole experience smoother for new players and nicer for users playing in full screen.

    After the UI update, I should be working on the extension of the RPG system. This update should bring a lot of cool new features and bring AIdventure closer to its final state. However, because it will add new stuff it will also take more time! I can't give any release date.

    Release 1.4.0

    Hi everyone, today I have released the 1.4.0!

    The steam version was using the experimental 1.4.0.BETA.x version. A good part of the elements below were already implemented.

    The **main new feature is the lore book** but there is more.
