Thank you for playing Counterpact! Hopefully, you continue to enjoy the game. This update brings quite a few bug fixes and quality of life features, as well as a new weapon for Loie the Inker! New Content:
- New Loie the Inker weapon: Work In Progress
- This Defense weapon may not pack as much of a punch as some of her other weapons, but it can still cut through the competition (quite literally)! The sawblades it shoots penetrate enemies when initially shot, and can deny a small area upon hitting the environment. You can shoot oil at your enemies to make them slip into the sawblades, causing them to be ignited when they get hit!
- New Gilded Gauntlet: Origins
- Here's a not-so-friendly reminder that this is, indeed, a bullet hell. It's just you against Gale... and Gale? And also Gale? Let's hope your dodging skills are sharp!
- New Gilded Gauntlet Item: Shiniko the Reaper's Dollification
- The lower difficulties of the Gilded Spire no longer increase enemy attack delay, but instead decrease enemy health.
- The intention of this change is to emphasize the bullet hell focus of the Gilded Spire, as there seems to be common misunderstandings about what the Gilded Spire actually is, which in turn seems to lead to inefficient playstyles.
- Players who have not completely connected no longer appear on the scoreboard or in disconnect messages.
- Melee attacks no longer hit intangible enemies.
- Supernova missile detonation is now properly affected by delta time.
- Fixed an issue where the first unfavorited inventory emote and chair (the latter always being the Kitchen Chair) were being used as the default items in their respective menus.
- The AutoCam now prioritizes following the Security Cell in the Keepaway mode, so long as the Security Cell is not at "home".
- The "PlayerBypass" setting can now be added to the "Server" section of the INI to allow server hosts to set a player limit larger than 16.
- This setting is "secret" as large player numbers may have adverse effects; server hosts are responsible for any issues that are caused by using this setting.
- For security purposes, the internal limit is still capped at 50 players.
- KO streaks are now displayed on the scoreboard.
- Certain important buttons on the main menu and in-game menu now appear with different colors.
- Attempting to view the Gilded Gashapon's contents without having the Gilded Gauntlet unlocked will now display information about how to unlock the Gilded Gauntlet.
- An option has been added to adjust how long chat messages remain before fading out.
- An option has been added to automatically kick players who remain as spectators without chatting for extended periods of time.
- This is primarily to combat an issue where players would queue into matchmaking, then proceed to never join a team or participate in the game in any way, resulting in heavily lopsided games and generally wasting time for all those involved.
Bug Fixes:
- "NPC" no longer appears after Wardens are suddenly removed.
- Fixed an issue where some localization tags were not properly being sent by the account server.
- The Shop and Gashapon popups for new players no longer appear when the player is in the Gilded Spire, but has not yet selected a character.
- Custom settings will now properly set the collision masks for custom assets.
- Unarchiving all items now displays a confirmation popup.
After a little over two years of development and a considerable widening of the game's initial scope, Counterpact has finally launched! One last thank you to everyone who was here before launch; it was because of your collective efforts that the game was able to grow as much as it did. Of course, the game will continue to grow! For those of you who may have just found the game for the first time: Welcome! Hopefully you enjoy the game, and maybe even stick around for a while! There's a lot to check out with even more content to come over time, including six holiday events a year! Since Counterpact is no longer in its development phase, the Development Gashapon is finally gone. It had a nice, long run (a year and a half!), but it's finally time to put it to rest. New Development Gashapon items are no longer obtainable; the only way to get them is by trading with other players. Lastly, this is technically an update, so there are some patch notes to share with you all... New Variety Gashapon Cosmetics:
- Class Clown(Uncommon Reaper Outfit)
- Malevolence(Uncommon Angel Outfit)
- Delicate Silk(Uncommon Inker Outfit)
- Clown(Common Emote)
- Graverobber can now dig up treasures on platforms.
- Graverobber treasures now land on platforms.
- Fixed an issue with Antique Lifeguard shields and enemy outlines.
- Items with unique recycling returns no longer cause the large font to be used for the price in the Shop.
- Fixed an issue where the last used emote and last used chair were being improperly set after an inventory adjustment if the last used emote or chair was not favorited.
- Damage areas no longer discredit players for KOs.
- Searching for multiple terms no longer causes no items to appear after recycling an item.
- Fixed an issue where attacks and abilities would sometimes be disabled upon spawning.
- Previously, this was most easily circumvented by clicking outside of the game window, then clicking back in.
- Shazia the Dream's attack animation should now work properly with delta time.
- Shazia the Dream's grapple speed now works properly with delta time.
- Large downloads directly from the server should no longer timeout after a certain amount of data has been received.
- The shop button now indicates when new items are in stock, and the new items themselves are indicated within the shop.
- When obtaining enough Eclipsium, new players will be pointed to the shop and gashapon with brief explanations.
- This will also appear for older players as well; however, it should only appear once.
- Chairs are now affected by delta time.
- External custom assets (sprites and sounds) can now be loaded from a .ZIP file via custom settings.
- Due to certain complications regarding this addition, demos will not be recorded while playing with external custom assets until further notice.
- Loser weapons can now be disabled via custom settings.
- Shazia the Dream's Gilded weapons now have unique binding sprites.
- This also applies to the Development Hypnotic Chain skin.
- The Goliath Doll, Gale Doll, Gamble Doll, and Luster Mite Doll now appear as their Dusk counterparts while the player is on Team Dusk.
- Specific variables within weapons, players, and projectiles can now be made exclusive to Dawn or Dusk.
- This is particularly useful for "adding" characters that are accessible by both teams, but need to be visually distinct as a result.
- Tips will now be provided in the in-game chat after being KO'd.
- This is obviously intended for newer players, and can be disabled in the Options menu.
Note: Unless there are any glaring issues that suddenly come up, this will be the final update before Counterpact's official launch on December 31! To those of you who have stuck around all this time, thank you for your support. However, this does mean that the Development Gashapon will be leaving soon, and the items within will no longer be obtainable. Hopefully you are satisfied with what you have. Bug Fixes:
- Performing actions within your inventory properly returns you to your previous page again.
- Delta time no longer negatively affects jump height.
- Certain visuals no longer cause underwater bubbles to fade out "randomly".
- Clients should no longer timeout while downloading larger maps directly from the server.
- Unfathomable Fury's attack damage has been reduced.
- Lifeguard's shield is now affected by item attribute filters, such as the Antique filter.
- Unique item icons have been added for Eclipsium bundles.
- Eclipsium bundles (and other items with "abnormal" recycling returns) now display how much is gained when recycling them on their item icons.
- Delta time has been implemented for important aspects of the game.
- The "Search" button has been removed from the inventory; text searching will now be performed automatically.
- Players can now search for multiple terms in their inventory by separating each search term with commas.
- Spacing has been added to Shortcake's background, better displaying the details on the sides of the background.
- The space between the edges of the water fountains and the ground on Treecave Greenhouse have been made solid.
- This is to prevent smaller players from going under the edge of the fountain and getting "stuck".
- Official map checksums are now run at the time of loading the map, instead of storing the checksum when the game is booted.
The end of another year is closing in, and that means a lot of things... but to those of us who have been split into identical counterparts, it means the Festive Season is upon us again, running until January 2! Of course last year's items and the Holiday Rush metagame will be returning, but there are a fewnew items this event brings too! And just like with the Halloween event, this year the items will be in their own gashapon. There is also a set of festive weapon skins to collect for a cheaper price, so be sure to check those out too! Don't forget the stocking stuffers; every player who logs in during the event will get a freeFrozen KOunter!
There's something special about this particular event though; this will be the last holiday event of Counterpact's development phase! That's right, the game will be launching very soon (by the end of the month, most likely)! It has been a long journey, but for those of you who stuck around after all this time, thank you very much. However, this also means the Development Gashapon will finally be leaving us soon, so be sure to complete your collection while you still have the chance because thoseitems will not be returning!
Without further ado, the patch notes...

- Dollification: Eye Blaster is now compatible with decorations and keychains.

New Content:
- The Gilded Gauntlet has been added.
- The Gilded Gauntlet is a series of challenges within the Gilded Spire that each offer extra difficulty beyond that of a standard Blinding run. Gauntlets will typically offer the standard Blinding rewards (65 Eclipsium and a gilded weapon), on top of rewarding the player with an Essence Remnant when the player completes a Gauntlet for the first time with a weapon within a given week.*
- * Weapon skins are not counted separately.
- Essence Remnants are rewarded as items, but are a currency solely used by the Gilded Gashapon.
- There are currently 4 Gauntlets available; more Gauntlets will be added in future updates.
- The Gilded Gauntlet will not appear for players who do not own at least one gilded weapon.
- This is to prevent less skilled and less aware players from starting a Gauntlet without wholly knowing what that entails, as Gauntlets use the Blinding difficulty as a base.
- Despite the intention of this mechanic, players who have never completed Blinding themselves but obtained a gilded weapon from another player willbe able to access the Gilded Gauntlet.
- The Gilded Gashapon is now permanently available, starting with the following items:
- Goliath Doll(Rare Pet)
- Gale Doll(RarePet)

- Viewing an empty offer on a Trade Post now properly wraps the text.
- Mode-specific overlays are now properly hidden after a round ends.
- Intangible players are no longer able to be subdued.
- Players are no longer granted increasing rewards while playing with custom settings.
- Players are no longer able to bypass custom character limits after a round has ended.
- Disabling decorations no longer causes the game to crash when a weapon with a keychain attached is spawned.
- Pressing ESC while a menu or popup is already open in the Gilded Spire no longer opens up the in-game menu.
- Scythe's and Soul Crusher's dash now only heals on hit for the amount of damage taken during the dash, as opposed to granting a small amount of extra healing should the damage reset threshold not be met.
- Graverobber now charges its dash quicker, but the dash inflicts less damage and lacks the damage reset mechanic Shiniko the Reaper's other weapons possess.
- Shazia the Dream's grapple strength while carrying a flag has been reduced.
- Hypnotic Chain's subduable application speed has been increased.
- Orbital Support now provides significantly less healing for the user.

- Unfathomable Fury's initial attack damage has been increased.
- Unfathomable Fury's spirit gain rate has been increased.

- For the sake of stability, Shiniko the Reaper is currently listed as an available announcer; however, selecting her will use the Basic Announcer until her voiceovers become available.
- Small arrows now appear above allied Graverobber treasures.
- KO streaks are now announced in the event feed for every 5 KO's achieved.
- The loss of a KO streak is also announced in the event feed.
It's the most wonderful time of the year again: Halloween! The Halloween event is now active until November 6, and that includes the metagame* and items that came along with it last year. For those of you who already got everything from the event last year, there's still a bitof new content to collect! The metagame now awards the Purple Pumpkin Bucket Charm Memento, and a few new Halloween-themed cosmetics have been added to the gashapon. - This feature was deactivated over a year ago and is somewhat slow; using URL downloads is still recommended, as that is much faster and more stable.
- 3 new standard gameplay music tracks composed bymiguelangell960 have been added.
- The previous tracks are still available; this just brings the total number of standard gameplay tracks to 6.
- Players are now able to host game servers through Steam's networking functions.
- Due to this featurerequiring Steam to function, anybody playing the game outside of Steam will be unable to see or join these servers.
- This option will be enabled by default; it can be disabled through the Network Settings menu under the Host Server menu.
- This feature required heavy adjustments, and is subject to issues during its infancy.
- Maps are now automatically decorated with hanging decorations during certain holiday events, including Halloween.
- This can be disabled in the Video Settings menu.
Bug Fixes:
- Offensive Gilded Spire enemies no longer stop moving if the player positions themselves a certain way.
- Fixed an issue that was causing the trade post confirmation's text to overflow.
- A measure to prevent outfits and weapons from not being properly initialized has been implemented.
- Fixed account mutes not working properly.

- Fixed a bug that was causing KOunters with backgrounds (such as the Scoreboard KOunter) to put extra space between it and status effect icons.
- Napalm now causes slight heal fatigue to be inflicted upon taking damage.
- The amount of heal fatigue inflicted depends on the current level of Napalm.
- Voiceovers have been implemented for "Fhuuu" the Angel and the Gilded Spire enemies.

- First time players are now asked if they would like to use their Steam account to register a Counterpact account.
- The Antique filter is now applied to "extra" parts of weapons, such as Shazia the Dream's chains.
- The image selection buttons in the map editor have been replaced with a slider.
- The Overtime Boost display in the Gilded Spire now becomes redder as it approaches 100%.
- The heal fatigue icon on the overlay now displays the current percentage of heal fatigue, rather than the current percentage of healing received.
- This was done to both be less confusing for newer players, and to make it more consistent with how other status effects are displayed.
New Variety Gashapon Items:
- Falling Fashion (Common Holiday Loadout Outfit)*
- Bountiful Harvest(Common Holiday Bounty Hunter Weapon Skin)*
- Maple Leaf(Common Holiday Emote)*
- Pumpkin Pie(Common Holiday Chair)*
- Candy Apple(Common Holiday Pet)*
- Internal changes have been made regarding the synchronization of status effects.
- The impact of this should be relatively unnoticeable on the surface, but it does improve synchronization and will result in less total packet size.
- Due to this change, previously recorded demos are now incompatible with the current version of the game.
- The remaining text has been converted to the localization system; all text is now able to be localized.
- The Account Management menu is now accessible in-game; however, options related to logins will be unavailable while in-game.

Balancing Adjustments:
- The Eclipsium reward for playing on servers with custom settings has been significantly reduced.
- The reworked Hypnotic Chain now inflicts the subduable status more slowly against targets with an imbalance buff.
- Fixed manually switching to a specific map not working if the rotation only consisted of one map.
- Orbital Support no longer inflicts acid or knockback on allies.
- Subduing no longer inflicts attack damage.
- This had very little gameplay impact; it would simply cause the damage counter to display more damage than the total health of the victim, though it would also award that extra bit of damage to the score.
- Fixed the reworked Hypnotic Chain appearing to begin its decay earlier for other players.
- This did not have any impact on usability; it was solely an issue of clarity.
- Fixed pets not following their owners during high latency or disconnects.
- Fixed an issue where a subdue KO would sometimes be missing its special effects for other net players.
- The appearance of the Model 9 outfit has been redone.
- Due to issues surrounding the original appearance of the outfit, the original appearance will not be making a return under any circumstance.
- The reworked Hypnotic Chain now displays its subdue meter regardless of whether an enemy is chained.
- Shazia the Dream's demonstration has been updated to accurately reflect the reworked Hypnotic Chain.
Note: Due to certain internal changes, previously recorded demos are no longer playable. Balancing Adjustments:
- Unfathomable Fury cooling rate has been slightly increased.
- Hypnotic Chain's subdue rate is now affected by the user's distance from their target.
- This rate scales based on current distance, with the rate being faster the closer the user is to the target.
- At a distance of half of the maximum chain length, the subdue rate will match the previous subdue rate.
- If the user is right next to the target, the rate will be slightly faster.
- If the user is the maximum distance away from the target, the rate will be significantly slower.
- The refined sheen and Gilded glitter effects have been disabled until further notice due to compatibility issues.
- The Random Team button is no longer selectable when playing a demo.
- The Vote Skip button is no longer selectable when playing a demo.
- The ball is now affected by motion-inflicting map entities, such as launch areas.
- Item searches and the current page are now retained if the popup is reopened, such as when archiving items.
- Items can now be searched for by their abbreviations.
- Due to the way this is implemented, certain words that are often excluded from abbreviations (such as "the") are still counted in abbreviations in this instance.
- The inventory's "reset filters" button now also clears the current search term.
- Individual items can now be manually unarchived through the Account Management menu.
- Gale's coins now rapidly blink during the last second of their lifespan.
- Entities in the map editor can no longer be manually locked; instead, they are only able to be deleted while the tool is selected or if Control is being held.
- The Credits have been revamped.
- The visual overlay when being subdued has been adjusted; at the start of subduing the effects are very subtle, but become significantly more intense when the victim is close to being subdued.
- The Space Bar can now be used to pause or play demos.
Hopefully you've all been enjoying the prestigious sport of Sportsball! But in our haste to celebrate the Summer season, it looks like we forgot a few key things... This is just a little update to help solidify Sportsball as everyone's favorite pastime. Check out the little list below for the changes!
Balancing Adjustments:

- Graverobber healing treasures now have a reduced initial healing rate, but the healing rate will decay at a slower rate.
- Demos no longer appear to increase your Eclipsium.
- This didn't actuallyincrease your Eclipsium, so attempting to use this "extra" Eclipsium would result in the account server rejecting your request.
- Fixed players sometimes appearing with perpetual respawn immunity in demos.
- Sunny Sunny is now properly labelled as a Summer Solstice item.
- The Sportsball now spawns in Keepaway whenever a team reduces their timer by half of a minute.
- Server messages related to Sportsball are now colored orange.

Summer's finally here yet again, and the second annual Summer Solstice event is now under way! This event will run until July 9! You can obtain a handful of new Summer-themed items, and kick around an unspecific ball in the Sportsball metagame! Of course, the items from last year are returning too. Better yet, all of the Summer Solstice items are now in their own gashapon machine, so it'll be easier to get them!... Well, "easier" in the sense that you're guaranteed to get Summer Solstice items.
All players who log in during the Summer Solstice event will also get a FREESummer Throwback KOunter!*
* This KOunter will be untradable.

- Fixed Shazia the Dream's chains being misaligned.
- Fixed the Random Team button putting players on the larger team.
- Fixed Supernova missiles moving through walls in specific situations.
- Shiniko the Reaper's difficulty is now listed as 3 stars.
One of the biggest lies we are all told is "work is its own reward." Shiniko never believed this either. Sure, being a reaper can be fun sometimes, but nobody's payingher to do it. Luckily for her, she knows just where to go to get a more tangiblereward... Shiniko the Reaper now has a new weapon available in the shop, Graverobber. This is a Support weapon that lacks the offensive power of the Scythe, but allows Shiniko to dig up treasures by dashing into the ground! She'll dig up a different treasure depending on the distance of her dash, and each treasure provides a nice little "permanent" boost to whoever picks it up. Speaking of loot, a few new items have been added to the Variety Gashapon! You can see them in the list below! There are also a few other important things in that list too, like some Keepaway adjustments, so maybe it's worth the read. Balancing Adjustments:
- Liftoff missiles now cost only 1 ammo.
- Liftoff attack delay after shooting a missile has been decreased.
- Various adjustments have been made to the Keepaway mode:
- When a player drops the flag due to being KO'd, the flag will only be obtainable by the enemy team. This effect lasts for 5 seconds.
- A trail now follows the player currently holding the flag.
- If the flag is picked up by an ally (including the player who dropped it) after deliberately being dropped, that player will now receive amplified damage for 5 seconds.
- Shiniko the Reaper's dash distance is now halved while carrying a flag.
- Shazia the Dream's grapple strength has been reduced further while carrying a flag.
- Subduing no longer increases respawn time.
- The game resolution no longer gets stuck at the default resolution when switching to fullscreen.
- Players are no longer credited for a KO if they deal knockback to an enemy at the same time that another player inflicts the final damage.
- Fixed an issue where players could not bounce the ball with their body again until they hit it with a projectile.
- Fixed player-based special effects sometimes not triggering for network players.
- Natural Logarithm's Rerouted Power effect is now displayed to all players.
- Every player who obtained Quick Thinking during the Lunar New Year 2023 event will also receive Cat-Like Reflex.
- During networking hiccups, the game will now attempt to keep players moving.
- This is intended to make aiming easier against high latency players.
- This is an experimental change, and may be reverted if it is too disruptive.
- An option to join a randomly selected team has been added to the in-game menu.
- Players are now able to archive items in their inventory.
- Archived items will no longer be displayed in the player's inventory, unless it is viewed through the Trading menu.
- Items can be unarchived through the Account Management menu. An option to unarchive individual items will be implemented in the near future.
- The scoreboard now displays the current round's scores.
- While using Bounty Hunter as Shazia the Dream, if your Outlaw is KO'd, the KO confirmation sound will now play at a higher pitch.
- Shazia the Dream's chains are now more precisely cut off.
- Galactic(Uncommon Loadout Outfit)
- First Class(Common Loadout Outfit)
- Speedometer (Common Pet)
- Riddled(Common Emote)
After a year and a half of hard work, Counterpact has finally left its alpha phase! The core features of the game have been implemented, so the next couple of months will focus on adding enough content for launch. But don't worry, the game will continue to receive content updates after launch! What elsedoes this mean? Unfortunately, it means those neat little Alpha Charm mementos and Alpha emotes are no longer being given out. It also means our beloved Alpha Egg pet has left the Development Gashapon. But now... now the Beta Charm memento and Beta emote are being given out in its place! And the Beta Egg pet has joined the Development Gashapon! Get it while you can, because this announcement alsobrings a more concrete launch date set in July! When exactly in July? Not sure yet. Just wait. All that aside, there are some other far less important things in this update. You can read those changes below. Bug Fixes:
- Fixed slot and character filters applying in item confirmation popups.
- This issue would typically cause these confirmations to fail, as they depend on the items being shown.
- Intermediary players no longer appear in the ignore list.
- Disconnection messages no longer appear for intermediary players.
- Antiqueness can now be removed from items.
- When selecting the option, the "Yes" button will be locked for 3 seconds to avoid accidental removals.
- This cannot be undone.
- Items can now be deleted.
- When selecting the option, the "Yes" button will be locked for 5 seconds to avoid accidental deletions.
- This cannot be undone, and refunds will not be issued regardless of what items are deleted.
- All existing instances of Fresh Overwear (2023) and the 2023 emote have been made Antique, and the items' descriptions no longer state that they are exclusive to the Festive Season 2022 event.
- A damage-per-second and healing-per-second display has been added to the Experimentation Room.
- Settings to toggle heal fatigue and allow Puppets to regenerate health have been added to the Experimentation Room.
- An option to have the Puppets automatically regenerate health has been added to the Experimentation Room.
- The Flag Barrier entity has been added to the Map Editor. This entity acts as a solid wall to any player currently holding the flag, but is intangible otherwise.
- Longer item description lines will now have their width automatically reduced.
- This may impact readability, so less verbose item description lines are still recommended.
- An experimental, automatically generated Spanish translation has been added.
- This may be replaced by more refined community-made translations in the future.
- Players now have significantly reduced friction while using the Ice Cube chair.
Provided all is well with this update, this will be the final alpha update for Counterpact. Potential patches aside, the next update will mark the end of the alpha phase, bringing Counterpact into its beta phase! Thank you to everyone who has been part of the community so far. Do note that the Alpha Charm memento and Alpha emote will stop being given to new players at the start of the beta, and the Alpha Egg pet will be removed from the Development Gashapon at the start of the beta. Balancing Adjustments:
- Players are now immune to enemy damage and knockback after respawning; this immunity is lost after leaving their spawn area.
- Hypnotic Chain no longer appears as a Support weapon on the scoreboard.
- Restarting demo playback no longer causes an extra chat window to appear.
- Fixed an issue that prevented built-in localizations from being automatically loaded.
- The Experimentation Room has been added, allowing you to freely test items and game mechanics without reward or consequence of failure.
- The "Enter" key can now be used to automatically select "Yes", "Confirm", or solitary "Close" options in popups.
- The "Enter" key can now be used to purchase the currently selected item in the Shop, roll the currently selected Gashapon machine, or skip the animation of a Gashapon machine.
- When not in a game or in the map editor and while there are no popups, pressing "Escape" will now instantly return to the main menu.
- A "Restart" button has been added to the Gilded Spire in-game menu.
- Descriptions now appear for each Shop category.
- Players can now ignore other players' chat messages through the in-game menu.
- A button has been added to the in-game menu to more easily allow players to vote to skip the current map.
- When another player creates an Offer on your Post, the resulting popup notification will now let you immediately open the Post.
- The following entities have been added to the map editor:
- Conveyer belt (pushes players either left or right, but does not affect their actual speed)
- Jump modifier (if a player jumps while standing in a jump modifier, their jump height will be affected)
- No-slide area (players cannot slide down slopes while in these areas)
- Damage area (players repeatedly take damage while in these areas)
- When browsing the Shop or previewing Gashapon prizes, checkmarks are now displayed on items that you already own.
- These checkmarks will be displayed regardless of rarity or other attributes.
- Players can now view the inventory of another player by providing that player's Player ID.
- An option has been added to the Account Management menu that will allow players to hide their inventory, preventing other players from viewing it.
- An option has been added to manually switch languages.
- An option has been added to display the current ammo as a small number below the player.
- A ball can now be spawned by a game server administrator by typing/ballin the chat.
- Alternate weapons with the Exclusive rarity obtained before October 14, 2022
- Exclusive playtester rewards obtained before October 14, 2022
- Summer Solstice items obtained in 2022
- Autumn Equinox items obtained in 2022
- All instances of Quick Thinking obtained in 2023
Balancing Adjustments:
- Flags are now locked for 15 seconds at the start of a Capture the Flag round.
- This is to prevent players from grabbing flags before enemies load into the map or have time to set up defenses.
- Artillery Gamble's attack delay has been increased.
- Lil' Clinic's Warden spawn time has been reduced.
- Recourse's healing (from both its attack and Spirit's status effect) has been reduced.
- A Keepaway mode has been added.
- This mode sees both teams fighting over a single Security Cell (which is locked from pickup for 15 seconds at the start of a round). Similar to Capture the Flag, players pick up the Security Cell by simply touching it. However, unlike Capture the Flag, they must hold it for as long as they can, protecting it from the enemy team. The Security Cell can be manually dropped similar to an Essence Cell. While a player is holding the Security Cell, their team's timer will count down. The first team to run out their timer wins the round.
- Due to the current workload and the work involved in creating a map, there is currently no existing map for this mode. However, players are now able to create maps for this mode.
- Note to map makers: Though certain precautions have been taken, similar to Capture the Flag, this mode is likely to work far better on a completely enclosed map.
- When applying tools, favorited items are no longer put in front of the tool in the confirmation popup.
- This bug would result in the tool not being applied or consumed, as the positioning of the items is expected to be consistent by the account server.
- Spectating (including demo playback) no longer restricts the camera's bottom to the bottom boundary of the map, but instead the bottom of the standard viewable area (such as what you would normally see while playing).
- This was technically not a bug, but would often give a strange appearance when the player being KO'd near the bottom of the map would result in the camera suddenly being moved upwards.
- Fixed an issue where previously setting a server welcome message would cause it to appear at the start of recorded demos.
- Note this bug actually caused it to be recorded in the demo itself, so this fix does not retroactively apply to demos recorded before this update.
- Watching a demo now prompts a "Watching a demo" status on Steam, instead of the "Playing online" status.
- Clicking between options on a list menu no longer plays the "invalid" sound.
- Over the Glowing Sea, made by StarlessElaine, has been adopted as an official map.
- Shazia the Dream's default role is now listed as Offense.
- This does not include any mechanical changes; this is purely for the sake of clarity.
- When a flag is locked in Capture the Flag, a lock icon is now displayed on the overlay, and the background of the flag status is tinted red.
- Touching an automatic win area or automatic lose area now announces who did so in the chat.
- Demo playback controls have been added, and can be accessed by moving the cursor to the bottom of the screen.
- Demos can be sped up (up to 8 times the normal speed), slowed down (down to a quarter of the normal speed), paused, and restarted.
- The demo's runtime and current time are also shown.
- Note: Due to issues with freezing, demos can not yet be skipped ahead to specific times or rewound to specific times. It is currently unknown if these functions can be effectively implemented in the future.
- Players who have not selected a character for an extended period of time after selecting a team will automatically be moved back to Spectator.
- The team imbalance buff no longer accounts for players who joined a team, but have not yet selected a character.
- The function of the inventory's search bar has been expanded:
- If an item's description inherently contains a header line (such as those stating that an item comes from a holiday event), words within that header will now be counted in the search.
- Typing "KOunter", "counter", or "KO" in the search bar will now show every item that currently has a KOunter applied.
- Typing "label", "name", or "named" in the search bar will now show every item that currently has a Label Gun applied.
- Typing "gilding kit", "GK", or "gilding" in the search bar will now show every item that currently has at least one Gilding Kit applied.
- Team-based entities in the Map Editor have been combined into a single button per entity; continuous clicks will cycle through which team these entities apply to.
- Entities with a slider-based setting (heal beacons, launch areas, and push areas) no longer trigger a popup when selected; instead, the slider now appears directly on the editor menu.
- The layer button in the Map Editor has been removed. Now, the slider will be enabled when placing decorative images, allowing more layers to be chosen for better control.
- All map editor text has been converted to the localization system.
- Spawn barriers now have a different appearance when they are solid.
- The visual appearance of certain status effects have been revamped.
- Darker decorations now have a white outline instead of a black outline.
- All Mementos are now displayed for 2.50 seconds (the previous display time was 1 second).
- "Display time" refers to the time after the Memento's spawn animation ends, but before it begins to fade out.
- The Alpha Charm now features the same sparkles as Refined items.
New Weapon: Heartbeats
- Support weapon for Loie the Inker
- Attack: Has less maximum damage, but is able to hit allies. If it hits an ally, it heals them for a percentage of their maximum health, with the percentage correlating to how charged the attack was.
- Ability: Ink does not amplify damage enemies receive, but instead instantly inflicts them with heal fatigue. Repeated hits with ink will increase the enemy's heal fatigue. Successful hits will also heal the user for a small amount of health per hit.
- Eye Blaster Warden's attack range has been increased.
- Eye Blaster Warden's wakeup speed has been decreased.
- Bounty Hunter's Subdue timer now pauses while attacking.
- Unfathomable Fury and Furious Gamble bombs are now properly paused when the menu is opened in the Gilded Spire.
- Character demonstrations have been finished.
- Demos no longer perform post-round cleanup.
- This is referring to the point after each round where all players and projectiles are removed and mode objectives are reset in preparation for the next round.
Balancing Adjustments:
- Bounty Hunter has been buffed.
- The speed at which Outlaw status is applied has been significantly increased.
- Outlaw status' damage amplification has been increased.
- The maximum rope length while already bindingan enemy has been increased.
- If an enemy marked as an Outlaw is KO'd, the user will receive Miscellaneous score based on the enemy's Outlaw status.
- Outlaw status now decays at a slower rate.
- At full Outlaw status, the Outlaw's health is displayed to all allies.
- A sound now plays if your marked Outlaw receives damage.
- Capture the Flag has been adjusted in an attempt to reduce the potential of stalemates.
- If both flags are away from their bases, any player holding a flag will receive increased damage.
- When a flag is returned to the base by its team, it will temporarily be locked, preventing enemies from picking it up for a short time.
- Shiniko the Reaper's Dash now charges more slowly while holding a flag.
- Explosive jumping is now less effective while holding a flag.
- Flags now have a time limit when they are removed from their base; if the flag remains away from its base for 1.50 consecutive minutes, it will automatically be returned regardless of whether or not it is being held.
- Future Shock has been buffed.
- Wardens will now automatically regenerate health, similar to sleeping Eye Blaster Wardens and Lil' Clinic Wardens.
- When the user is near their Warden, the Warden will also grant a shield to itself, and its health regeneration will be increased.
- Font smoothing is now correctly applied to capture zone names and heal beacon indicators.
- The in-game event log (in the upper right corner) has been revamped.
- Mode-related events are now emphasized more, and now display the Counterpact icon.
- Player names within each event will now be separately colored, depending on which team they're on.
- The weapon or status effect that inflicted a KO is now shown.
- Note: Certain aspects of event log icons are not final, and are subject to change in the future.
- Capture zone progress is now displayed as a ring meter instead of a sliding bar.
- Capture zones now display their full name.
- The mouse lock option no longer applies while spectating.
- The Invasion and Deathmatch overlays have been updated.
New Weapon: Bounty Hunter
- Supportweapon for Shazia the Dream
- Attack: The attack is largely the same as the Hypnotic Chain's attack, but is significantly weaker while the rope is thrown out.
- Ability: Subdues enemies at a much slower rate. However, binding an enemy will mark them as an Outlaw, and this Outlaw status increases the longer the enemy is bound. An enemy marked as an Outlaw takes increased damage from their enemies. Furthermore, the user's pull strength is increased based on the bound target's Outlaw status. Only one enemy can be marked as an Outlaw; binding a new enemy will remove the Outlaw status from the previous enemy. The Outlaw status will also be removed from an enemy if the user is KO'd, or will gradually be reduced over a period of inactivity.
- April Showers*(Common Holiday Inker Outfit)
- May Flowers*(Common Holiday Weapon Skin for Lifeguard)
- Bamboo Shoot*(Common Holiday Weapon Skin for Liftoff)
- Root for the Team*(Common Holiday Weapon Skin for E-Laminator)
- Halo Spirit no longer increases when "healing" allies who are currently overhealed.
- This should have very little impact on a typical game featuring less organized teams. However, the impact should be more noticeable in a coordinated setting, such as a tournament.
- Slightly increased Shazia the Dream's grapple speed while carrying the flag in Capture the Flag.
- Quick Draw ink mark handling has been revamped.
- An enemy hit by the ink will now appear to be marked immediately, instead of waiting for a response. Furthermore, this revamp fixes the uncommon issue of having multiple targets marked at once due to high latency.
- Downward slopes no longer take priority over platforms.
- Previously, if a platform was placed in a position where a downward slope started, the player would go down the slope instead of continuing to walk on the platform.
- Players are no longer able to land on single-pixel edges.
- Though players would slide off if they were standing still or had a very low speed, players with a higher speed would be able to put themselves in a state of constant landing and sliding off the edge.
- Scrollbars for menus no longer extend beyond the top of the screen.
- Players now receive a warning if they may be suffering from a lost connection to the server.
- Cosmetic slots can now be individually disabled.
- These settings are purely client-sided, and are intended for players who find cosmetics too confusing or cluttered.
- These settings do not retroactively apply to active cosmetics while playing; changes will only take place when players respawn, so these settings are best adjusted before joining a server.
- Moving chairs now properly move down slopes while underwater.
- While the inability to move down slopes while underwater was intentional (as it could interfere with swimming), this functionality ultimately gave a janky appearance to moving chairs.
Due to various circumstances, development on Counterpact has been very slow over the past month. However, the game is still in active development, and the pace of development is picking up again as these circumstances clear up. Your understanding and patience are appreciated. Miscellaneous:
- Linked Steam accounts can now be converted to Counterpact accounts.
- This will allow the user to log into their account on any platform. However, the user will no longer be able to automatically log in through Steam. This cannot be undone.
- Email addresses can now be changed for Counterpact accounts.
- This requires access to the email address currently registered to the account, as a recovery code will be sent. This is done for security purposes.
- Passwords can now be changed for Counterpact accounts.
- A search bar has been added to inventory popups, allowing players to more easily search for specific items.
- The server browser will now specify when it is still pinging servers after at least one server has been pinged.
- Killing Lights' description now states that it cannot pull or subdue enemies.
It's been a while since we discovered the Gilded Spire. Though many of us continue to visit the Gilded Spire to this day, attempting (and often failing) to plunder her treasures, we are all due for a little change. Check out what the Gilded Spire has to offer now! New Weapon: Intervention
- Defense weapon for "Fhuuu" the Angel
- Attack: Does not heal allies, but has increased damage. Each hit will grant a unique shield to the user, which will block a flat amount of damage. If the user already has a shield, subsequent hits will increase the shield's strength (to a maximum of 50).
- Ability:Spirit will not heal the user and nearby allies. Instead, it will temporarily disable the user and transform them into a violent windstorm. Enemies caught in the windstorm will take a small amount of damage and will be pushed away with great force. The user will also regenerate some health for the duration of the ability.
- Opening the in-game menu during Gilded Spire will now pause the game.
- The Gilded Spire's threat selection logic has been revamped.
- The new threat selection logic should give the Gilded Spire more of a dynamic feel overall, as it is both less strict and less black-and-white about the player's performance. It should also make the difficulty feel a bit more consistent between different Offense or Defense weapons.
- The Napalm enemy upgrade now inflicts less burn damage, and less stacks of Napalm are applied for each floor.
- The Resilience boost's health increase has been reduced.
- New solid shapes have been added; these shapes are randomly selected upon starting a new Gilded Spire game.
- The collision of the platforms now covers the full width of the room.
- Collecting an upgrade pickup will now briefly display the effect of that upgrade.
- Replicate Gamble's attack delay now decreases if Gale is killed.
- Artillery Gamble's missile explosion radius has been increased.
- Blazing Gamble has been removed.
- Though it was technically possible to dodge the Blazing Gamble, it proved disruptive enough to the point that players greatly preferred avoiding Blazing Gamble altogether.
- Shock Gamble has been removed.
- Its functionality was too similar to Replicate Gamble's, albeit far more punishing. The detonation of its shock bombs were also somewhat unpredictable.
- Tornado Alley has been removed.
- Though there are no random elements in its functionality, its high speeds and interactions with enemies often made it difficult to keep track of at higher difficulties, making it somewhat unpredictable (which in turn made it feel unfair in some scenarios).
- Bashing Gamble has been added.
- Assault Gamble has been added.
- Luster Mites has been added.
- SkillIssue(Common Emote)
- Ice Cube(Uncommon Chair)
- Urban Ninja(Common Reaper Outfit)
- Your Biggest Fan(Common Bulwark Outfit)
- Eye on the Prize(Common Watcher Outfit)
- Sweetie(Common Inker Outfit)
- Fixed Lifeguard dashes preventing Napalm from igniting the user upon getting hit.
- Self-damage from explosive jumping is now maximized when achieving maximum explosive jump height via lenience.
- Fixed being able to respawn partially inside the wall in the Gilded Spire.
- When the mouse lock option is enabled, the cursor is no longer locked to the window while using the map editor.
- Android: Fixed an issue where touching the inventory emote button while having no inventory emotes available would repeatedly play the "invalid" sound.
- Android: Fixed being unable to type in the recovery popup's text boxes.
- Adjusted the appearance of the Counterpact Icon Emote.
- The Gilded Spire text has been converted to the localization system.
- Damage taken by Wardens is no longer scored as damage received.
New Variety Gashapon Items:
- Grave Fortune*(Common Holiday Weapon Skin for Hypnotic Chain)
- Quick Thinking*(Common Holiday Outfit)
- Friendly Lantern*(Common Holiday Pet)
- Mandarin Mandarine*(Common Holiday Pet)
- Wsh*(Rare Holiday Chair)
- Static charge effects are now properly synchronized.
- Chat messages now have a maximum length of 150 characters.
- Counterpact accounts can now be recovered in the case of a forgotten password.
Balancing Adjustments:
- Static Charge is no longer capable of completely blocking damage; the player will now take a minimum of 1 damage from all sources.
- Killing Lights attack now has less attack damage while Hidden.
- Explosive jump timing is now more lenient when attempting to achieve the maximum velocity.
- Team shuffling logic has been adjusted in an attempt to make teams feel more even by trying to "even out" the total round scores between teams.
- Static Charge shocking effects now appear while sitting.
- More network stability adjustments.
- Flags will be instantly reset if the holder goes inside a spawn area.
- This will apply to Holiday Rush Ornaments as well, causing them to be shattered instead.
- Items with the untradable attribute no longer appear in trade-related popups.
- The account server would still prevent these items from being traded, but appearing in trade-related popups could have caused confusion.
- YellowAfterlife's Mouselock Extension has been added to the game, providing more reliable mouse locking to the game window when the option is enabled.
- The server browser no longer shows game servers until they have been pinged (unless they are using a conflicting version).
- Video settings will no longer be reduced if the game window is not in focus.
- Game servers will not switch maps if there is only one map in the rotation.
- New game server commands have been added:
- getroundsDisplays how many rounds are left before the map changes.
- This command can be used by all players.
- gettimeDisplays how much time is left before the map changes.
- This command can be used by all players.
- addroundsRemoves the time limit for the current map, and extends the round limit by the given number of rounds, or by one round if no parameter was provided.
- addtimeRemoves the round limit for the current map, and extends the time limit by the given number of minutes, or by one minute if no parameter was provided.
- endlessRemoves the time limit and round limit for the current map.
- map Ends the current map, then immediately switches to the specified map. The parameter can exclude the ".cpmap" extension, but the parameter must match the map's filename exactlyotherwise. The specified map does not need to be in the server's map rotation.
- download Attempts to download a map from the specified URL. If the map was successfully downloaded, it will automatically be added to the server's map rotation.
- More text has been converted to the localization system.
Balancing Adjustments:
- There is now a 1.50 second delay between an objective being completed and the Ornament spawning in the Holiday Rush metagame.
- Back Alley Invitation:
- The user is no longer prevented from becoming hidden while the Sapped Bonus is in effect. However, there will be an added delay before becoming hidden.
- Attacks performed while hidden will not receive the benefits of the current Sapped Bonus.
- The delay before the Sapped Bonus starts decaying has been increased.
- Killing Lights:
- The attack damage has been increased.
- Static Charge consumption upon blocking damage has been reworked.
- The amount of Static Charge consumed upon blocking damage scales between 100% and 200% Static Charge.
- At 100% Static Charge, no Static Charge will be consumed upon blocking damage.
- At 200% Static Charge, the amount of Static Charge consumed will be equal to 50% of the damage that was blocked.
- Damaged blocked with Static Charge will now be added to the Miscellaneous score.
- Fixed the Holiday Rush Ornament spawning for the wrong team.
- Killing Lights now displays an "Expiry" meter.
- Added themed Decorations (for Decorated items) for the Festive Season event.
- Adjusted how flag interactions are depicted on the client side, as to prevent confusion regarding whether the flag was actually picked up or not.
- This applies to the Holiday Rush Ornament as well.
- The "Please Wait" popup will now timeout after 10 seconds.
- All meter text has been converted to the localization system.
Happy Festive Season everyone! As you could probably guess, this update marks the start of the Festive Season. This holiday event will run until January 2! The Festive Season celebrates Winter Solstice, Christmas, and the New Year. You'll find multiple cosmetics for each of these holidays in this event! This update also brings a Christmas-themed metagame that will last for the duration of the event, and a new Christmas-themed weapon that will be permanently available in the shop! All players will also receive the Gift Scythe upon logging in!
New Weapon: Killing Lights
- Defense weapon for Shazia the Dream
- The weapon forgoes the pick potential Hypnotic Chain possesses, in favor of sustained presence and knockback-based area denial.
- Attack: Knockback on hit has been increased significantly, but the attack animation will briefly pause upon hitting an enemy; this pause also affects attack delay.
- Ability: Chaining an enemy will not subdue them; instead, the user's Static Charge will gradually increase until it reaches the target's maximum health. Static Charge grants armor to the user. If the user takes damage while they possess a Static Charge, some of the Static Charge will be lost, but a pulse of electricity will be released, damaging and knocking back any nearby enemies. The pulse's damage and knockback is dependent on how much Static Charge was consumed. Static Charge will automatically be lost after not chaining any enemies or taking any damage for 5 seconds.
- Fresh Overwear (2023) (Common Holiday Outfit)*
- 2023 (Common Holiday Emote)*
- Snow Thrower (Common Holiday Weapon Skin for Soul Crusher)
- Chimney Sweep (Common Holiday Weapon Skin for Firewall)
- Gift of Giving (Common Holiday Weapon Skin for Lil' Clinic)
- Festive Wrath (Common Holiday Weapon Skin for Unfathomable Fury)
- Brain Freeze (Common Holiday Reaper Outfit)
- Overnight Shipping (Common Holiday Watcher Outfit)
- Miss Cocoa (Common Holiday Pet)
- Snowflake (Common Holiday Emote)
- Cheers! (Common Holiday Emote)
- Magic Sleigh (Rare Holiday Chair)
- A Christmas tree spawns near the middle of the map. Whenever an objective is complete, an ornament appears somewhere on the map for the team that completed the objective!
- Only one ornament will appear at a time.
- Maps that are too small or do not contain a valid objective will not be able to trigger this metagame.
- Ornaments can only be picked up by one team, but anyone on that team can pick them up. The player that picks up the ornament must deliver it to the Christmas tree.
- If a player is KO'd while carrying the ornament, they will drop it for the enemy team to pick up!
- When a player successfully delivers an ornament to the Christmas tree, their whole team will receive a temporary buff!
- Each ornament you successfully deliver to the Christmas Tree will be added to an Exclusive Memento at the end of the round!
- Back Alley Invitation now initially deals less attack damage, but will have its attack damage penalty (compared to Hypnotic Chain's attack damage) completely removed at 100% sapped bonus.
- Obtaining more than 100% sapped bonus will not increase the attack damage further.
- Halo's allied heal upon attack has been increased.
- Recourse's allied heal upon attack has been decreased.
- Recourse's attack damage has been increased.
- Recourse seemed to be a better option than Halo in most, if not all scenarios. These balance changes aim to establish Halo as having a larger, unmatched focus on direct healing, while shifting Recourse a little more towards combat support.
- Shazia the Dream's chain now has a weaker grappling effect while holding the flag.
- Fixed Lil' Clinic Wardens attempting to target allies through walls.
- Allies would not actually be healed through walls as the Warden would immediately stop targetting them; however, this was still an issue as it would prevent valid allies from being healed.
- Fixed an issue with hosting a dedicated game server on the same machine where automatic login was enabled resulting in the game server not properly initializing the game.
- Note that this issue would not occur if the host used a Steam login and had copied the game files (excluding the Steam DLLs) to a separate directory before hosting the server.
- Player healthbars no longer cover players when wearing certain outfits.
- Items of rarities that inherently prevent certain actions (trading, recycling, or refining) will now display the unavailable actions in their descriptions.
- All item information has been added to the localization system.
Balancing Adjustments:
- Flags dropped in or next to an elimination zone are now instantly reset.
- The default goal for Capture the Flag is now 3 captures.
- More networking adjustments.
- Shutting down a server while a player is holding a flag no longer causes a fatal error.
- Fixed Soul Crusher's description incorrectly stating it has a shorter attack delay.
- Shazia Doll now has animations.
- Added a Spawn Area map entity.
- Spawn Areas allow players to freely switch characters or change their arsenals, just as they could if they were standing next to their fountain.
- Added a No-Warden Area map entity.
- No-Warden Areas prevent players from spawning Wardens while touching the area.
- The decoration boundaries of certain pets have been adjusted to be better aligned.
- Player IDs are now appended to player names in the event log, chat notifications, and hover-over name display.
- Characters can now be selected from the character menu with number keys while using a keyboard.
- The Enter key can now be used to start the game while selecting the difficulty in the Gilded Spire.
- Holding the mouse button or the select button (while on a gamepad) will now significantly speed up the Gilded Spire end screen.
- Server hosts can now configure or disable the player inactivity timer.
- Completing mode-related objectives will now award players with points.
- In Power Struggle and Dual Power Struggle, players who are in the capture zone upon its capture will be rewarded with one point each.
- In Capture the Flag, one point will be awarded to the player who initially grabbed the flag, and one point will be awarded to the player who captured the flag. In the event the player who initially grabbed the flag also captures it, they will be rewarded with two points.
New Gashapon Cosmetics:
- Development Hypnotic Chain (Common Limited Dream Weapon Skin)
- Shazia Doll (Uncommon Limited Pet)
- This item is currently a work in progress. Animations will be added in the future.
- A Capture the Flag mode has been added.
- Due to the current workload and the work involved in creating a map, the only available map for this mode is Twilight Fountain (which will likely be temporary, as the map was built for Power Struggle). However, players are now able to create their own Capture the Flag maps.
- All projectiles are now cleared upon the start of the next round.
- Eye Blaster Warden and Growing Pain Warden have had their detection range reduced.
- E-Laminator's maximum knockback has been increased.
- Even more attempts at increasing game server stability.
- Movement interpolation has been reworked.
- This should result in little to no visible change for most players, but higher latency players (typically those with throttled connections) will now appear to have smoother movement.
- Fixed not being able to clear the Welcome Message in the server settings.
- Fixed formatting issues in the item descriptions of weapon skins for default weapons.
- Fixed client timeouts sometimes not triggering on the game server's end.
- New music composed specifically for Counterpact by miguelangell960 has been added.
- Game servers can now be locked behind a password.
- These servers can still be listed in the browser, but will show a padlock icon to denote they are locked behind a password. Players will not be able to join unless they input the correct password.
- Eclipsium bundles have been added to the shop.
- These are items that can be used to trade Eclipsium between players.
- Due to time constraints, these currently use temporary icons. Their icons will be updated in the future.
- Using emotes or chairs will now reset the AFK timer.
- Lil' Invader has been adjusted to no longer display decorations below the saucer.
- Options have been added to export and import localization data.
- Not all in-game text has been made compatible with the localization system yet.
- In the future, official localization data will be included with the game. Due to the localization system being a work-in-progress, and due to a lack of translation resources, players may need to rely on unofficial, community-created translations for the time being.
New Weapon: Supernova
- Defense weapon for "Voyager" the Loadout
- The weapon is fairly slow, but has great area denial properties.
- Attack: Shoots an incendiary grenade; the explosion deals no direct damage, but has high knockback and briefly ignites any enemies caught in it. The explosion can also ignite the user if they are caught in it.
- Ability: Shoots a unique missile that cannot hit enemies directly, and will not detonate when hitting the environment. Instead, the missile will stick to a wall (if it hits one). After sticking to a wall, the missile will explode after a short time, dealing devastating damage in a large area. The missile can travel further than a standard missile before fizzling out. The ability cannot be used until the previous missile has detonated or fizzled out.
- Fixed a map editor error caused by deleting an image with a higher image index while using an image with a lower image index for the current tool.
- More networking adjustments. What else is new?
- The arsenal configuration menu has been revamped.
- The most notable change is item icons are now shown on the menu itself, and the item's description appears if you hover over the item slot.
- This revamp also fixes the "bug" that made it look like no weapon or outfit was equipped if the item in those slots was discarded somehow (via recycling, trading, etc.).
- Players are no longer kicked for duplicate packets; instead, the packet is simply ignored.
Bug Fixes:
- Added more network stability measures in an attempt to prevent servers from unexpectedly crashing when dealing with clients who have extremely unstable connections.
- Fixed decorations on the Invisible Chair not appearing.
- Removed a leftover debug function (that wasn't internally marked as debug by accident) that would copy the entire array of Chinese unicode characters to the player's clipboard upon loading the main menu.
- Team shuffling now takes each player's score for the previous round into consideration, and tries to balance teams accordingly.
- Twilight Fountain's layout has been adjusted slightly.
- Two platforms were added to each spawn room, allowing all characters to leave through the top.
- The healing strength of the underwater heal beacon has been reduced to 50%.
- The healing strength of the side heal beacons have been reduced to 33%, and they have been moved further away from the center.
- The default game server timeout duration has been increased to 10000ms (10 seconds).
- Added an option for game server hosts to disable team shuffling.
- Added an option for game server hosts to disable "even" team sizes.
- When disabled, players can join either team regardless of team sizes, and players will not be autobalanced.
- Added an option for game server hosts to disable the team imbalance buff.
- Game server hosts now have the option to set a welcome message that is displayed to joining players.
- The scoreboard now displays candy next to the player who is currently holding the candy during the Trick or Treat metagame.
- Extra icons have been added to the Power Struggle and Dual Power Struggle overlays to denote which team currently owns the zone(s).
- Icons have been added to capture zones to help clarify ownership.
- Players can now use their scroll wheel to view in-game chat history.
- A "map name" entity has been added to the map editor.
- Setting a name through this will cause that name to appear in the server browser instead of the map's filename.
- When the current inventory filter results in no items being displayed, a notice is now displayed notifying the player that no items fit the criteria.
Balancing Adjustments:
- Hypnotic Chain's base subdue time has been increased.
- Hypnotic Chain's yank strength has been decreased.
- The exact cause of the "corrupted data" issue has been pinpointed, and the issue itself has very likely been fixed.
- Map timers and game mode timers now run off of delta time to compensate for low strength game servers.
- The word wrap logic now breaks up words that themselves are too long to be display.
- This will likely only be noticeable in the in-game chat.
- The in-game chat now uses the same "small font" the rest of the game uses.
- White outlines around players' healthbars are no longer displayed unless they are overhealed.
A new alpha for Counterpact has been released. This update contains the following changes: Balancing Adjustments:
- The player holding the Trick or Treat candy will no longer receive the reward if their team loses.
- This is to discourage players from not participating in gameplay after getting the candy by hiding in areas that are either far from the objective(s) or are difficult to reach.
- Reduced the attack damage of Eye Blaster Wardens from 3.5 (it alternated between 4 and 3 each tick, averaging to 3.5) to 3.
- All Wardens now suffer from heal fatigue twice as quickly.
- Fixed Trick or Treat candy not being given during the first round after a game server is launched.
- Fixed an error that would appear when attempting to load a map in the map editor.
- The game is now compiled differently for Linux, as to avoid corrupted data coming from the game servers after extended uptime.
- There is no guarantee as to whether this will completely prevent the issue, though testing seemed to indicate it could be the fix.
- If this presents any issues with actually playing the game on Linux, please report said issues.
- Warden heal fatigue is now properly synchronized.
- This has no effect on gameplay; this is solely to give more clarity to other players.
- Back Alley Invitation's sap bonus is now properly synchronized.
- This has no effect on gameplay; this is solely to give more clarity to other players.
- Fixed being unable to use Steam's screenshot functionality.
- The Pumpkin Bucket Charm's required candy for maximum glow has been increased from 15 to 25.
- Likewise, the ghostly aura emanating from the eyes now starts at 26 candy collected instead of 16.
- Game server hosts now have an option to adjust the timeout threshold for clients.
- In an attempt to circumvent issues caused by players with particularly poor connections, the default setting for this is 2500ms (2.5 seconds).
Happy Halloween everyone! For those of you who started playing after Counterpact was released in Early Access, welcome to Counterpact and thank you for playing! I hope you've been enjoying the game so far. I hope all Counterpact players also enjoy this update, as the first (of hopefully many) Halloween update is upon us.

- Boo! (Common Holiday Emote)

- * Despite being classified as rare, players will have increased chances to pull this item this year. This increased chance is equivalent to that of an uncommon outfit.
- The first player to score a KO after a round starts will receive the candy.
- The player holding the candy receives passive (but slow) health regeneration, a small speed boost, and a small amount of armor!
- If an enemy KO's you while you're holding the candy, they'll steal it from you!
- If you are KO'd by an uncredited source while holding the candy, it will be taken from you, and it will be given to the next player to score a KO.
- If you are holding the candy when the round ends, you will receive an Exclusive item! If you already have it, the item's appearance will be upgraded!
- Steam users can no longer set their display name in-game. Instead, their display name on Steam will automatically be used.
- In-game activity is now displayed through Steam's rich presence.
- Players can now register accounts linked to their Steam account.
- Note you will not be able to merge Steam logins and normal Counterpact accounts, so please log into your normal Counterpact account if you already have one.
- Currently, there is not a way to change your account credentials. When these options are added, you will also be able to convert your Counterpact account into a Steam-linked account and vice versa.
- Back Alley Invitation has received the following nerfs:
- Maximum attack speed has been reduced.

- Added some measures to reinforce game server stability.
- Launched another official game server located in Singapore. This server is named "Counterpact Official - Southeast Asia".
- An "Alert" emote has been added to the default emote menu.
- Refined items now display two sparkles instead of one. These sparkles are also slightly more transparent now, to set them apart from Gilded Spire reward sparkles more.
- The maximum length of account passwords has been increased to 32 characters.
- Back Alley Invitation's attack sound now increases in pitch as the Sapped Bonus gets higher.
- The movement speed of moving chairs has been increased.
- Game server hosts now have an option to disable metagames correlating to events.
- By default, video settings will automatically be reduced if the game is running at slower speeds. An option has been added to disable this feature.
- The GUI Smoothing option no longer applies to the in-game chat or the arsenal previews.
- The direct map download feature has been removed; game server hosts must now provide download URLs for each map.
- This was done for optimization purposes, as the map file's raw data had to be kept in memory in order to facilitate direct map downloading.
- Keyboard keys for attacking and using abilities have been added.
- If there is more than a one-player difference in team sizes, the next player from the larger team will automatically be moved to the smaller team upon being KO'd.
Hello everybody! Last Friday, Counterpact was opened to the public through Early Access. Since then, there has been a much larger turnout than I was expecting. It has been fun playing with you all so far, so I want to say thank you for playing! I hope you are enjoying the game, and I hope to continue seeing you all. With that said, you may have noticed some persistent issues occurring while trying to play (especially today). I just want to make it clear that I am aware of these issues, and they are being worked on. I am asking for your understanding and patience regarding these issues; please keep in mind the game is in Early Access.
- The official servers have been frequently crashing today. This event was unprecedented, and only started occurring today. I am unable to determine the exact source of these crashes at this time, but I will be switching hosts for the official servers soon. Hopefully, this should make the official servers more reliable, as well as provide myself some insight into why they were crashing to begin with. In the meantime, if an official server crashes again, the best place to notify me is the official Counterpact Discord server.
- Game servers may send garbage data, resulting in odd behavior or fatal errors on the players' ends. This is a fairly old issue that I thought I fixed before opening the game to the public; apparently it wasn't fixed. This is also a high priority, but this issue doesn't seem to occur as often.
- "Autobalance" (automatically moving players to team when one team has two or more players than the other team) was previously a low priority, but with the game becoming public, it has become a more pressing issue since many new players seem to not realize there is an imbalance in teams whenever one occurs. Unfortunately, autobalance will not be implemented in the next update, but it will be implemented in the update following that one. For now, please do remember there is a "team deficit" buff that powers up players on the smaller team, so even on a smaller team you will not be defenseless.
A new alpha for Counterpact has been released. This update contains the following changes: Balancing Adjustments:
- Back Alley Invitation has been somewhat reworked with the following adjustments:
- The sapped bonus no longer provides extra attack damage, but instead provides faster attack speeds.
- The sapped bonus now provides a movement speed increase.
- The sapped bonus now decreases at a slower rate, and the pause until decreasing starts is now longer.
- The sapped bonus lifesteal has been decreased.
- The attack's knockback has been reduced.
- The attack's base damage has been increased.
- The Back Alley Invitation's sapped bonus will no longer stop decreasing if it is higher than the maximum health of the currently chained enemy.
- Fixed game servers in the server browser not being pinged if another server failed to be pinged.
- Implemented measures to prevent game servers from rejecting new connections after a period of time.
- The "Join Team Dawn" and "Join Team Dusk" buttons on the in-game menu now show the text above the team symbols.
- Font outlines are now smoother by default.
- Added an option to adjust the quality of font outlines.
- Added an option to toggle thick font outlines.
- This option is particularly useful if you have to reduce the quality of font outlines, but do not like how thick font outlines look as a result.
- Added an option to draw Shazia the Dream's chain as a simple line as opposed to a dynamic chain.
- The in-game menu now automatically pops up after joining a game.
- The previous damage counter font has been deprecated.
- A popup encouraging players to join the Discord server the first time they launch the game has been added.
- This popup will only appear once, regardless of the option chosen.

Counterpact is a 2D platform-shooter that pits two teams against each other, or a solo player against the tough (yet polished) forces the Gilded Spire has to offer.
7 Unique Characters
Each playable character comes with their own set of mechanics. If you enjoy glass cannon gameplay, try Shiniko the Reaper, who can output some serious damage despite her low health and close-ranged attacks; use her Dash to maneuver around (or through) enemies. Prefer to take a tankier approach? Try SYS.TR the Bulwark, who can use channel the damage she receives into powerful auras using her Rerouted Power.
Different Weapons to Try
Don't like how a character plays by default? Maybe you do like them, but the current situation calls for something different? Perhaps you just want a new twist on their mechanics? Each character has a variety of alternate weapons to choose from, some of which heavily change their gameplay style to the point of putting those characters into different roles, all while keeping their core mechanics intact. New weapons get added over time as well, so you'll have something new to try.
Over 100 Cosmetics to Collect
By simply playing the game (no microtransactions are involved), you can earn Eclipsium. Eclipsium can be spent on the available Gashapon Machines, which will reward you with a random cosmetic from their stock. Cosmetic items include different outfits for characters, little pets that follow you, chairs you can sit on, emotes to communicate or taunt with, and more.
Enter the Gilded Spire
If you want (or need) a solo experience, the Gilded Spire awaits you. Fight through four floors of bulky enemies and traps for a chance to earn riches. If you really want to challenge yourself, try conquering the Gilded Spire on the Blinding difficulty, and be greatly rewarded for your success.
