A Foreign World - Episode 4.5

Just so you know, I was about to rickroll all of you but decided against that. You can thank me later. At one point, it was coded in. This means that if you click on the discord icon in-game and don't end up at my discord channel, I forgot to change the link. Sorry...

But can you imagine? You just bought an AdultVisualNovel (AVN), you think it's pretty cool and want to check out the Discord, then BAM! Rick Rolled.

I mean, you'll never be able to feel safe again.

For those who lived under a rock and aren't well-versed in internet memes. Here is an explanation.

Ah, sorry. And this is the real explanation :D

Anyway, there isn't much to say other than I added some new story and an icon that directs you to my discord.

I hope everyone came well into the new year. Go ahead and enjoy the new update!

A Foreign World - Episode 4

Time for another update.

I'm proud to announce that from this day forward, A Foreign World will be available in simplified Chinese. I was contacted by a translator, and I thought it was a cool idea that I should try out.

Initially, I wanted to turn the added translation into its own update because why not? If I'm lucky, it's free publicity. Then, a few days ago, I heard that my translator was about to catch up to me, and well... here we are. I created the necessary buttons and added the translation as a new feature introduced in Episode 4. I hope this helps me reach new people, but to be honest, I also like the idea that I can say my game is available in 4 languages.

This number might go up in the future, but especially while the game is still in early access on Steam, it's bothersome to coordinate multiple people translating the new updates. For now, I'm lucky, and the people I'm working with are very reliable. But I can easily imagine a scenario where an update is delayed because I can't reach one of the translators. So, what I'm saying is that if you want the game in a specific language, then you can request it, but it might only be added shortly before the actual release.

I'm open to everything except French ;D

Those who play the game on Steam might have noticed, but with the last update, achievements no longer worked. I found the issue. Not sure how I managed to break that, though. I just needed to reimport Steam integration into the thing I used to create the game. This should have been it. Please tell me if there are still issues.

Other than the simplified Chinese translation, there aren't any fancy new game mechanics introduced in this update, so I don't have much to talk about.

This release is a bit over 10,000 words long and has around 240 images. I don't want to spoil anything. Go ahead and check it out yourself.

A Foreign World - Episode 3.5

A new release is ready to see the light of the day.

It's always hard to determine how many words are currently in the game. That's because it's not all dialogue, but some is hidden in the memory screen or other UI elements. So, sometimes, the best I can do is to extract all translatable Strings and then run the text through a word counter program. When I do that, then we are currently at 77.100 words.

I think it is fair to say we are approaching book length.

Episode 3.5 is centered around Lucy. It adds another day to the story.

Not only that. With Episode 3.5 came a couple of other scenes that can be found in between the already existing story. They are either fantasies or memories, and they shed a bit more light on MC's thoughts.

Many of those are sexual in nature, so it might be worth taking a look.

There was a bug that appeared when the game wanted the player to enter MC's name. This now happens through a different mechanism. Hopefully, this resolves the issue. It's hard to verify because I can't recreate the bug on my end, and I'm not in close contact with someone who can. If it still appears, then please reach out to me. I will fix it and issue upload a small bug fix.

Episode 3.5 also added side images. By default, this feature should be turned off. You can enable it in the preferences tab. These side images help differentiate between who is talking. Especially in the scenes with Lucy's parents, this should be helpful.

That's all I have to say. Go ahead and enjoy this new update! Have fun!

Episode 3.1

I've been working on a smaller update for in-between. Episode 3.1 mainly changes the memory screen which still had some inconsistencies in the previous update.

Also, I've added a new scene between Megan and Aurora right before you meet with Nathaniel.

Other than that, there are a couple of minor changes.
- The 'H' button works differently now (allowing people to completely hide the textbox)
- The conversation between the MC and Nathaniel has a couple more lines
- Some narrator text referred to MC in the third person, which is now changed so he is consistently referred to in the second person
- Cecilia measuring the women's cup sizes is now part of a more general physical examination

A Foreign World - Episode 3

After a long wait, the new update is finally here.

Some might have noticed, but it has been over three months since Episode 2.5. This is quite a long time without an update that furthers the story. Usually, I aim to release a new update every 1-3 months. Until now, this worked just fine, and I'm sure that from here on out, this will still be the standard. This one is an exception because of a variety of reasons. Some are personal (I moved), while others are connected to the game (Episode 2.6).

Still, Episode 3 is ready to be released.

For some reason, renpy (The engine I'm creating the game with) doesn't allow me to extract the dialogue like usual. This means I can only estimate how many words have been added and how many are in the game right now. The size of this update isn't much different than any other update I published in the past.

There we go.

A Foreign World Episode 2.6

This update still ends at the same spot as the previous release. Still, there are new scenes to discover, but they are placed between the existing story.

With that out of the way, we can come to the more personal part of this release note. How are you guys? Hope you're doing well and aren't fighting something stupid like food poisoning. Me neither, at least not anymore.

Sorry. I wanted to release this update a little sooner, but when I was right about to finish, I was knocked out for a few days. That's done now. I'm full of energy and can't wait to work on the next release (Which will feature a little more story).

Oh no, I said it. This update is just something for in-between releases that had to be done to set up a few things for the second half of Episode 3. Mainly two conversations between Amber and Tracy. Still, two exchanges wouldn't take too long to add, but when going over my old work, I can't help but try to fix a few things.

It's all connected to a broader effort of me trying to become a better writer so the story won't crumble within the next few updates. In the end, it's time good invested, even if it doesn't look that way now, seeing how long it took me to bring out Episode 2.6. Hold back your judgment for one or two releases. You'll find that the story will feel very natural.

So, what was added in this version? This is a spoiler, so don't read this if you want to play the game and find the new details yourself.

You have been warned. There is a new Intro that's more fitting for the type of game I'm creating. The MC's past has been fleshed out a lot more in multiple shorter scenes during the first night. The cop that shot Aurora now has another scene showing his internal struggles. Amber's language theory has been cut out from the game because it's not coherent with its internal logic. I fleshed out the backstories of each character behind the scenes, and her answer no longer made any sense. Then, there is a slight change when the girls discuss if they want to rely on MC's help. And lastly, there are the two conversations between Amber and Tracy that I've already mentioned. This sums it up quite nicely. There are one or two more minor changes, like added lines that display the thoughts of certain characters, but they are too small to all be mentioned here.
