Its the witching hour, and something wicked is brewing! Sorcerer Moe and his sidekick are cooking something mysterious, and it requires the nastiest ingredients. Whiskey, giving a hand, is mixing the dreadful candy corn into the magical pot so that- wait, what? Blubbie?! Thats not a jacuzzi! Ah, well, anything goes in Whaloween night!
Its Halloween season, and were tricking and treating with brand new artwork to celebrate! Over the past few years, we\'ve featured Townseek locations in our Whaloween artworks. This time around we wanted to show a bit more of characters, featuring a fan favourite trio of tricksters! And scarecrow Whalechan is also there for good measure! We couldn\'t let our mascot character be missing from one of our artworks, could we?
Fetch your best ingredients, since its time to brew some good times!

Last year, our artwork hinted towards a mysterious, dark location on the horizon. While its secrets and the town are yet to be discovered, that didnt stop Capt. Jawline from hiking with a camping crew of werewolves. This year, we banded up Mr. Moe, Whiskey and Blubbie to set up a fun scene, showcasing what makes them so fun to have around. Whiskeys always up to be of help, Blubbie enjoys her time in moist environments, and Mr. Moe is just standing there, as hes known to do.
If you\'re unfamiliar with any of the characters that we just mentioned, we\'ve introduced Whiskey and Blubbie in our Tour of Explora, while Mr. Moe\'s town is up next! Our characters are genuinely one of the most fun aspects of our game and getting familiar with them is a treat of their own! If you want to know more about Whiskey visit Meowosville and if you want to know more about Blubbie visit Driplands !
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1659360/Townseek/\"" style="color:#bb86fc;text-decoration:none;">If youre curious and havent tried it yet, why not treat yourself to playing our demo? Just like in our artwork, our demo is rich in character dialogue, so youll get to know a lot more about Whiskey, Blubbie and all of our other characters in it! Its just a small taste of what the world of Explora has to offer! https://store.steampowered.com/app/2014110/Townseek_Demo/\"" style="color:#bb86fc;text-decoration:none;">You can play our demo here , and all of your progress will carry over to the full version of the game!
Speaking of the game, we\'ve been brewing some surprises for the coming months! We\'re going to continue going on our Tour of Explora and introducing you to the many towns of the game, and we also have a bigger update coming soon! We\'ve never been this busy with development and talking about the game! We can\'t thank you enough for being on this trip and waiting for the game alongside us.

Its great to see our characters continue to breathe and have a great time throughout the years. What kind of adventures will they get into next year? Whether you\'re seeing these pieces for the first time, or are a returning regular, we hope you enjoy our collections of celebrations from over the years!
As we prepare everything for the upcoming months, we\'re taking things a bit slower during the season. Over on our Discord Server , we\'ve opened up the Campfire Corner channel for all talk about the spooky season! Share your favourite seasonal movies with us, talk about which candy is the best, share your seasonal artwork, or simply sit together as we watch the unmelting of the holiday\'s biggest singer together in unison.

Additionally, we have also extended our Happy Tree quest! Many people have already submitted their artwork, and we\'ve got a huge variety of paintings across original characters, mascots, cultural icons, self-portraits and more! We think itll be amusing to see many of the different paintings on each playthrough of the game. Anyone casually checking them might end up thinking Just how many paintings are there? and thats funny to us. The deadline is now until the 10th of November, so feel free to come and submit your own artwork!
Thats about it for now. Well continue to brew some fun stuff with Townseek, so keep your eyes peeled and at a safe distance from the pot! Cheers!

Youre going to need a big bowl for this salad! Nature has a way of giving us some big surprises every now and then, and few things are bigger than the carrots that you can see in the horizon. In these forests, these vegetables grow very large. And if you stick around for dessert, theres a lot of chocolate to be had as well!
Its time for our Tour of Explora to take a healthy stroll in the woods! If the bandits of Lawride Town were too rowdy for your liking, then you might want to meet some cuddly friends instead. And none are cuddlier, fluffier and full of life than the bunnies from Burrowburg!
[/img]

Built alongside huge forests and farmlands, Burrowburg is a town where the residents\' hearts are as big as their giant carrots! During the season, their crops grow to enormous heights, which allow the bunnies to carve them for materials, to make homes out of them and, of course, eat them! While they can quickly wither in winter, the fresh soil and water guarantee a bountiful harvest for the next season!
If you have a sweet tooth instead, then head up to the Chocolate River! Completely natural, safe and clean for the consumption of any species in this world (not for bunnies in real life), and, obviously, delicious! If you\'re lucky, you might even find a giant brown carrot roaming around! Isn\'t that sweet?
But if you want some peace and quiet after a day of hopping around, head up to Nibble Grove, where Nibbles himself will give you a tour of his farmlands, where he grows, what else? Carrots! And if you go south west, youll reach the Stone Bunny. A natural rock formation in the form of a big bunny. Its tradition to hop to the top, although not many are as nimble as the bunnies. Dont try it at home!
[/img]
You better like company, since the local babysitter, teacher and merchant Fluffyroll always has a party with her! Aside from keeping an eye on the kids and educating them, she somehow still has the energy to also run the main store for visitors and merchants from abroad. Always lively, always patient, always caring, thats Fluffyroll! Make sure to check her wares for all kinds of bunny, plushie and carrot paraphernalia!
Fluffyroll is very well educated in the surroundings of Burrowburg, so shes a natural at teaching. Explora has a ton of different cultures and environments to explore, so she keeps the kids entertained with tales and stories that she hears from other merchants.
[/img]
While youre likely to be fascinated by the Stone Bunny and the Chocolate River in Burrowburg, the rest of Explora is also rich with awe-inspiring sights! Previously on the tour, weve already visited the surface of the ocean, plains, farmlands and even a colourful swamp! If you want more than blue and green in your life, you can find the Golden Forest on this side of the world! Despite its perpetual-autumn vibes, its forests are flush with foliage and life. And bees have even taken home at its outskirts! Dont get stung!
At the west side of the Golden Forest, some witches have set up a firefighting base, known as Firewatch Witches. Theyre allegedly preventing fires from happening in the zone. But if youre lucky or rather, unlucky, you might see them at work, trying to put down a fire they very likely caused themselves. You might also sometimes spot a bee playing video games while resting atop the tallest tree in the forest.
Those are only some of the various curiosities that can randomly occur around Explora! Keep your eyes peeled, for locations that you have seen before might change every now and then. Does the marsh frog play the banjo all the time? Can crabs take a rest and party down? Fun stuff is always happening all around the world. You just got to see it for yourself as you explore around! Don\'t forget to snap a picture to remember too!
[/img]
For our behind-the-scenes section this time, we\'re going back to the Townseek archives! For the first time, we wanted to show some concept art of our early character selection process. After we settled on the idea of turning Townseek into a full game, we sketched a bunch of characters and possible candidates for town hosts. We don\'t want to show all of them here, as to not spoil which characters did or did not make it in, as there\'s still a lot of surprises to come!
However, as you can see, we made concepts involving a wide variety of shapes, forms and races. We didnt want to bind Townseek to a single concept like fantasy, furries, or magic. Yet, we also wanted everything to make sense and be connected in the setting and world-building, so a lot of our ideas for towns began with quickly designing characters and then figuring out their place in Exploras vast setting.
Fluffyroll was designed specifically as a welcome to our game character, without many design frills or narrative baggage. Given her simplicity, we needed to make her visual design say more at a glance. And unlike characters that immediately show their race and personality, she displays a lot more about her lifestyle thanks to the presence of the bunny children in the picture. Wouldnt you think of her as a caring aunt?
[/img]
If you enjoyed your visit to the Burrowburg and the Stone Bunny, then youre going to love where were going next! Unlike the people of Burrowburg, dont expect a fuzzy reception from our next stop, as the citizens of the rocky town of Stonehedge dont really move that much to begin with. So lets head over there, slow but steady!
Before we wrap up the tour, we remind you all that our Art Quest is live on our Discord Server! If you got a knack for digital art, and haven\'t given it a shot, come give it a try and have your art featured in the game, credits and all! And, as usual, let us know if this tour stop had everything you wanted! Or let us know if theres anything else we can do to improve the experience!
Well then! Time to head towards the stone metropolis next. Let\'s rock and roll! Cheers!

Artists, grab your drawing tools! North of Lawride Town , the latest town that we\'ve featured on our Tour of Explora for Townseek, there\'s a Happy Tree landmark that pays homage to a well-known, beloved painter. Those who\'ve travelled far on our demo might have noticed already that the tree\'s paintings and art change over time as you explore around. You might have spotted a friendly yellow labrador, our mascot, and even the cover art of the game itself. What\'s going on there?
Turns out the paintings do change! Our team has drawn a handful of different paintings which change as you pass by every few minutes. We designed it as a fun easter egg, with canvas with different artworks, referring to the game, our characters, and various things from our past and present. However, like everything else in Townseek, there could always be more canvas being drawn by the happy tree.
[/img]
That\'s where you come in! If you\'re an artist or have a knack for digital artwork, we want to feature some of your art on the Happy Tree canvas! We\'ve prepared a template for you to draw over on our Discord Server! Draw something on the small template, and submit it on the townseek-your-art-in-game channel, and we\'ll add it to the game!
You can draw anything you\'d like! It can be original characters, your sonas, something you\'ve got close to you, a landscape of your country, your pets, or anything that comes to mind! Don\'t worry if you don\'t nail the Townseek style perfectly. It\'s not the easiest style to replicate! Once you submit your art to our Discord Server , we\'ll adjust it on our end. We\'ll pass it by you to make sure it\'s ready to add into the game, including making sure it fits the game\'s palette, art style, etc. The template and the assets themselves are small, but limitation often leads to creativity!
There\'s only two guidelines that we\'ve to ask you to follow. The first is that you can\'t draw something that doesn\'t belong to you. You can\'t draw, for example, a popular mascot from another videogame franchise. The second is that all art must be generally acceptable for everyone, meaning we can\'t accept suggestive art, not-safe-for-work pieces, or artwork featuring divisive or controversial content. If the artwork wouldnt fit Explora or the tone of the game, it wont make it in. Well evaluate each piece and provide clarification case-by-case if necessary.
As examples, here\'s some examples that were drawn by our artist and by our community manager that have been turned into canvas already!
[/img]
Artwork submissions are open until the 26th of October! Please make sure to submit them over on the channel on our server. No other channels or socials are applicable.
Just like the pets contest, if you\'re not an artist either, there\'ll be more Townseek quests and contests! We\'ll continue providing fun activities that people can participate in, both for things inside and outside the game in the future. For now, look forward to continuing our Tour of Explora, as we head into the adorable bunny-hopping town at Burrowburg!
Well then, we look forward to seeing your artwork and what you draw! Cheers!

Whoa! Watch out, explorers! As we approach the next town, you\'ll notice that life in the simple, rural lands is not as quiet as one would expect! With fishing bears, crow pirates, bandits and even aliens, you might get more than you bargained for!
But now that we\'re here, we\'ve arrived at our next destination in our Tour of Explora! After the sharks , cats , and slimes , it\'s time we land at the otherwise normal and quiet Lawride Town! Its humble rural life has everything a seasoned farmer needs!
[/img]

Its time to slow down and enjoy the simple life! Lawride Town is well known in the zone for having everything that farmers need. Just head to The Farming Farm south-west from here and theyll share some sowing lots with you!
Life is good and straightforward, until you step out of the town that is. If you want to get your own fish, travel south to Minty Bears Lake. Who is more professional at fishing than a bear? Go even further, and youll reach the Pirate Cove at the beach. That place should be self-explanatory. And if you head north, you might see some Crop Circles in the wheat fields. Those were written by aliens. Its kind of their thing, you know.
But while Lawride Town is good at growing crops, the local group of bandits is great at stealing them! The town is regularly terrorised by a group of meddling hooligans in masks that raid the place and bring chaos to its inhabitants. Or so they say. They mostly do petty crimes like taking vegetables and the occasional graffiti. At worst, theyre a minor inconvenience.
[/img]
Since everyone else seems to be busy, you will have to take your business to The Mayor. After such curious folks in previous towns, it\'s almost weird to see a human around! Given that the town basically runs itself, hes been re-elected mayor multiple times, mostly as a formality. But with age, hes got experience to spare, so listen to the elder, and you might learn a thing or two about life.
However, hes also known to have a very frail backbone. He\'ll be the first to hide at the smallest sign of a bandit raid. Its almost as if they got into robbing specifically to tease him. So try to not make him worry, alright? He\'s trying his best, even if some of his quests and ideas for the town can sometimes be a bit dubious.
[/img]
While were visiting the farmlands, lets talk about farming! Once you get the proper equipment for the job by purchasing a Hoe, you can plant any seeds, which you come across in towns and earn from town quests, in different farming spots all across the world. Like we mentioned before, there are some spots available at The Farming Farm, so feel free to help yourself!
Farming is quite easy, but youll notice that seed packs work in different ways. Most farmers in Explora sort their seeds in four different groups: Crop, Exotic, Extravagant and Bizarre. Whatever type of seed you intend to plant will grow differently depending on where you plant it. For example, the Crop Seeds that you plant to grow a carrot in one place might grow a melon somewhere else.
Once you have your seed packs and a suitable farming spot, just plant it and wait for a while. Go for a trip, keep doing trades and quests. After a while, the crop should be ripe and you can simply come back and pick them up! It\'s that easy! Also, just between us. There are rumours about some special water that can make the seeds grow faster. One has to wonder if theres any truth to that...
[/img]
As for our behind-the-scenes this time, we get to highlight another game of ours, The Farming One ! Made back over ten years ago in RPG Maker, it was the first game our team ever worked together on, and it was the first time that we mentioned Lawride Town in a game. As the tour continues, you\'ll notice that we actually lifted some more towns and landmarks from our previous projects. For us, it\'s a fun way to expand our cast, while also paying homage to how we got here.
The Farming One was a hybrid of incremental and farming games. Our idea was to turn otherwise calm, cosy experience into a frenzy of automated growth, taking staples of the farming genre and distilling them to their most basic aspects. Despite being developed in a single month, it included several upgrades, marriage candidates, and even multiple endings!
Up to a point, we consider Townseek feels like its natural evolution. After developing The Farming One, we wanted to develop a game where you could meet different species and characters while doing various activities. While we never quite nailed down the game design we wanted at the time, mostly due to the lack of experience and know-how, we feel that Townseek has captured a lot of the same vibe that we wanted from that concept. Creative ideas are always shifting around!
The Farming One is available on Steam Workshop . We plan to preserve it in more ways in the near future, as there\'s not many ways to play it right now.
[/img]
Check for your belongings before we depart towards our next destination. If the bandits took your carrots, let it slide this time, since well be heading next towards Burrowburg, the land of fluffy bunnies and gigantic carrots!
Weve also got one more surprise incoming. A new community quest will soon be upon us! While the previous one appealed more to pet owners, this new one is more aimed towards artists, though everyone can participate. We can\'t tell you just yet about it, but lets just say that you should get your creative engine roaring up! Keep an eye out on our Discord Server on how to participate, and let us know what your thoughts were about this stop of the tour!

Hey there, explorers! While our Tour of Explora continues, we also continue participating in events! Townseek has been going on quite an adventure and we\'re not stopping any time soon!
This time, we\'re having the opportunity to feature the game in three amazing events at once! All these events are happening at the same time over this week and the next, so please, check out the sale pages for each of them. You might even find something you could play while waiting for Townseek!
[/img]
First up, we\'re participating in the Mexican Entertainment System ! If you\'ve been around a while, you\'ll know that we\'ve already participated in it a few times already. Our team is half Mexican and half Portuguese, collaborating from across the ocean and in-person at times. Add in our publisher and media partners, and the game truly is a multicultural effort, just like the game portrays!
The event is a perfect way to celebrate Mexican culture and its indie scene! While we haven\'t reached the stop that represents each of our cultures as developers in the game during our tour yet, rest assured there\'s plenty of inspiration from Mexico, Portugal and a bit from all over the world throughout it! We can\'t wait to show you those towns!

Next, we\'re participating in the Six One Indie Showcase , a big celebration of indie games! Our publisher at Super Rare Originals is debuting some exciting announcements including a first look at https://store.steampowered.com/app/1605250/Moros_Protocol/\"" style="color:#bb86fc;text-decoration:none;">Moros Protocol ! It\'s a fantastic opportunity to see Townseek alongside other amazing indie games and get a taste of what\'s coming next in indie games.
Finally, we\'re also heading to the Tokyo Game Show, where our media partner at Gamersky is taking us! While we\'d love to visit the city in person, they\'ll be handling the showcases of the game for us there. We\'re still confirming the details with them about how the game is going to be presented in person at the event, but if you\'re headed to Tokyo, you have the chance to try out the game for yourself too!

While we\'re participating in these events, the https://store.steampowered.com/app/2014110/Townseek_Demo/\"" style="color:#bb86fc;text-decoration:none;">Townseek https://store.steampowered.com/app/2014110/Townseek_Demo/\"" style="color:#bb86fc;text-decoration:none;">demo continues being ready for you to play on Steam ! Explore new towns, trade over 200 items, upgrade your airship, discover landmarks, encounter random events, and enjoy all the new features we\'ve been working on. Your demo save will carry over to the full game so you\'ll be able to pick up right where you left from!
Like we\'ve mentioned in previous posts, we continue to work on implementing some new features and language support in the demo. That update is coming really soon, so thank you for waiting so far! Meanwhile, like always, you\'re free to share your feedback or reviews here on Steam , or join our Discord Server and tell us what you think , or what you\'re looking the most forward to!
Set sail, explore and look out for the adventures that await you this week. The whole world is your sea now! Cheers!

Hop onboard, as it\'s time for us to continue our Tour of Explora! Now that we\'ve visited the underwater town of Sharkdwell and the furry settlement of Meowosville , we\'re heading towards a colourful, majestic swamp! Watch out where you land your ship. The swamp water can be hard to wash off!
This time, our stop is at Driplands, a place that is a town as much as an endless, rainbow swamp! The lands around the town are covered in very colourful goop. You\'ll know you\'re there when you see a giant iron water faucet on the horizon! Even if you\'re travelling on your own, you can\'t miss it.
Put on your best raincoat, some tall boots, and let\'s meet the locals!

When the goo from the Pastel Falls merged with the Mossy Marsh, the first slimefolk were born! With time, they learned that the substance that gave them life had a lot of handy properties, like solidifying, medicine, jewellery, and more, and built their own town from it. To control the flow more properly, they built the Giant Faucet, placed right in the middle of their town. You\'ll find them to be a creative bunch. They have experts in art, fashion, cooking, and all sorts of creative works they make from slop.
More to the south, where the colour stops and the vegetation starts to become denser, one can find the Mossy Marsh! It takes some time to get used to the smell of nature, but just because its slimy doesnt mean it doesnt have its charm. Crocodiles, flies and even a frog playing a banjo are proud of calling it home.
And if youve got a Pickaxe, you can help yourself to some minerals at the Boggy Quarry, where gold does grow on trees! Oh, and there\'s gems and artefacts to find too, but we didn\'t want to ruin the punchline.
[/img]
If you want to trade and do business at Driplands, you should go see Blubbie! As the owner of the rapidly growing goo fashion brand Bubbline, she\'s usually busy making new designs, but she\'ll make some time for you! Her Rainbow Necklace goes with anything, her Bath Bubbles are very relaxing, and if you\'re hungry, treat yourself to some Slopsagna!
But don\'t forget that she is a visionary! Blubbie\'s designs are rainproof and waterproof, yet its never enough! She\'s always looking for more ideas and inspiration to craft her art.
[/img]
The reputation of the Bubbline fashion brand didn\'t build overnight, and neither does yours! As with any other town, Blubbie is always on the lookout for people that would accept some quests and odd jobs from her, in exchange for money, rewards and, of course, Town Reputation!
Town Reputation is a special value for each town that tracks how much you\'ve interacted with each town. From selling new items, to completing town quests, towns will track how much you\'ve done for them. As you accumulate Town Reputation, you\'ll level up your Town Rank. Doing so, will unlock you new items, like cosmetics for your airship and extra upgrades, alongside even more quests. Later quests come with extra-valuable rewards such as Stardust, Super Water, and even more special resources we\'ll talk about later.
[/img]
Town quests can also be repeated and will replenish over time! Unlike the story quests where you seek and fill the lost diary of Sir Reginald Sharkingston, these can be done multiple times for more reputation and rewards. You\'ll have a limited amount of town quests you can take at each time. As you increase your town rank, you\'ll also be able to take more town quests. Hurray for interconnected systems!
At Driplands, Blubbie will often ask you to get materials for her designs. And if there is some demand, some slimefolk might want to hitch a ride to visit a tourist spot! Most importantly, since Blubbie herself rarely has any chance to leave her workshop, she is likely to request from you some photo shots of amazing places for inspiration! Grab a Camera from her inventory and go snap some photos!
[/img]
For this week\'s behind-the-scenes and with such a unique species of townsfolk, we\'ve got to talk about how we go about creating the fantastical but believable characters that populate Explora! Very early in development of the jam version, we created Blubbie to showcase that this wouldn\'t just be a game about anthropomorphic animals. Rather, we wanted to show we could have all kinds of species if we wanted, even magical ones. However, we also wanted them to feel like they could coexist, while still having quirks that separated them from one another, to further differentiate their cultures.
Blubbie, for example, was originally created to parody the anime slime girl archetype. Throughout development, as we explored that slimefolk were mostly liquid that changed shape and form at will, we made her design more gooey and unique. For their world building, we also figured that this meant that slimes could be whatever shape, form and gender they wanted at any given time, appearing as they saw fit. There are other characters in Explora whose design also allows exploring how the characters approach their identities.
This approach also created a lot of fun challenges and domino effects that impacted the world. For example, like we\'ve talked about in Sharkdwell, instead of creating anthropomorphic sharks that had legs and could walk on land, we designed sharkfolk to need mechanical legs to do so. Later down the line, there are more characters whose physical design or species allowed for more storytelling opportunities! We hope you get to meet them soon!

If you\'ve been keeping up with the posts we\'ve been making, we\'ve recently hosted a pets quest on our Discord Server ! Folks had chance to submit their pets, and we\'d pick a few to adapt into the game. We\'ve got a lot of submissions! These are some of the pets that folks submitted and made it in as part of a first batch. Don\'t they look cute?
We\'ll continue going through the submissions and picking some pets to add to the game as we carry on development. If you\'ve missed participating in it and didn\'t submit your pet, you can share some photos of yours! We\'ve got a brand new Discord Server channel for pets and friends, where pets are a part of the community all the time!
You can also be on the lookout for more Townseek activities! We know that not everyone has a pet, so we have more activities planned that will be more accessible for people who want to leave their impact in our game!
Now, dry yourself, since we\'re continuing the tour! Things got a bit too energetic with the fuzzy cats and the splashy slimefolk. Let\'s take it easy and visit the calm farm lands at Lawride Town next! It\'s just a rural town, so it should be a relaxing stop. What could possibly go wrong?
Have a rest, enjoy the voyage, and eat your veggies! We\'ll have plenty of them next time! Cheers!

Calling all pet owners and adorable pets! You might have noticed while playing our demo and throughout our Tour of Explora that Townseek has many critters that liven up our world. Over the course of development, whenever we found the opportunity, we have added new animals and creatures that appear at random as you travel around, populating the different continents and places you visit. There\'s not only dogs, cats, and birds, but also more unique friends such as capybaras, kiwis, triceratops, and many more!
Since we\'ve just highlighted a town all about cats , their close-by dog park and fish aquarium this week, we would like to give you the opportunity to have your own pets added in-game as critters! Be it dogs, cats, or any other animal you\'ve got, we\'d love to get the opportunity to meet some of your own pets, pick some of them, and introduce them in game as some of the critters that appear in the world!
[/img]
If you\'d like to submit your own pets, come over to our Discord Server ! After you join, you can submit your pets over at the townseek-show-your-pets channel! Our team will then pick a handful to adapt into the game! You can send photos of any of your pets, no matter the type. If we pick your pet, we\'ll work closely with you to help finalise their design. We want to make sure that you can easily spot them in-game when it releases.
As examples, here\'s how our artist turned their dog Apple and our composer\'s cat Bolinha into critters already!

Pet submissions are open until the 6th of September! Please make sure to submit them over on the channel on our server. No other channels or socials are applicable.
If you can, please help us spread the word! This is the first time we run something like this in a long while and we\'d love as many people as possible to join in!
If you don\'t have any pets of your own, don\'t worry! There\'ll be more Townseek quests and contests that we\'ve got planned leading up to launch! We\'ll let you know what\'s coming. For now, look forward to more Tour of Explora as we head into Driplands next week!
Well then, we look forward to meeting your pets! Cheers!

It\'s time to leave the seas and head to our next destination on our Tour of Explora! In case you haven\'t caught up yet, last week, we started a tour of the different towns you can discover in Townseek, starting with Sharkdwell .
This week, we\'re looking at the feline town of Meowosville! As one would expect of cats, they really like cardboard and strings, and made their town to fit their needs. Being a close neighbour to Sharkdwell, it\'s one of the first towns you\'ll discover as you venture into land.
Let\'s go meet these adorable yet crafty friends! Just keep an eye out for your belongings!
[/img]

Catfolk are very social and great explorers, and Meowosville is surrounded by equally interesting creatures. They\'re friends to the sandcastle crabs at the beach south of the town, and unlike whatever one might expect, they love playing with the dogs at the nearby Goodboi Park! Meanwhile, to the north, a group of territorial buff cats have claimed a cave and made it a gym for themselves. We recommend you admire their pectorals from a safe distance.
While Meowosville is the home to most catfolk, they actually have a long history of travelling the world! It\'s said that they come from the faraway deserts of Dunafar and that they crossed paths with the stone people of Stonehedge. They\'re actually the most numerous species in Explora! Keep your eyes peeled, and you might find some cats at some interesting locations.
[/img]
The merchant and host for Meowosville is Whiskey, and at his store, you\'re the boss! Like any good shopkeeper, Whiskey will charm you into buying his wares, such as Fish Burgers and Squeaky Toys. But if he happens to snatch your pouch, don\'t be alarmed! That\'s how catfolk play! He\'ll give it back if you chase him, along with some round pebbles.
Whiskey isn\'t the only trader in the family either. While Whiskey prefers to stick around at home, his cousin Pawline travels and trades the world in her own airship. You might even get to meet her during your own travels! You didn\'t think you were the only one flying around, did you?
[/img]
Fishing is also a big part of life at Meowosville! While fish is important to their diet, most of their fishing is actually recreational! During the main quest for Meowosville, Whiskey will introduce you to their prideful aquarium at The Big Bowl. Once you get a fishing rod, which Whiskey conveniently sells, he\'ll ask you to help fill it for an upcoming exhibition!
Search for one of the many fishing spots around the world, like the nearby Atlantis, cast your rod and see what bites! There are many different kinds of fish to catch, and they\'re also a great opportunity to make some quick money. But if you want to complete your collection, your fishing rod will need to get an upgrade at some point.
[/img]
For our behind-the-scenes development trivia for this week, Meowosville was the first town we designed for Townseek, all the way back in its game jam version. As a quick proof of concept to figure out how we wanted towns and characters to look, we designed the host for the first town as a blue anthropomorphic cat in robes. That helped us set the tone and themes we\'d need for the rest of the characters.
Having a cat-themed town also gave us the opportunity to reference one of our previous game jam games, Woofice Chair! In it, the player would control a dog in an office chair, defending their park from various waves of extremely muscular animals, which inspired us to add the Buff Cat Cave and Goodboi Park to Townseek. But worry not, the cats and the dogs sorted out their differences since.
[/img]
Speaking of cats and dogs, if you happen to be a pet owner, keep an eye out for more news early next week! You might have noticed by now that the world is full of unique critters that we\'ve created to populate the world. But what if some of your own pets managed to slip into Explora?
Anyway, it\'s time to head to the next stop on the tour! Put on your rain boots, since we\'ll be heading to the swamps of the Driplands next! If you\'d like to share your favourite bits of the tour so far, consider joining our Discord server! Tell us what you liked about Meowosville and what you\'d like to see next on the tour!
For now, have a safe voyage, and we\'ll catch you on our next stop next time! Cheers!

Gather around, explorers! With our updated demo and with Townseek on the horizon, we thought now would be a great time to take you on a Tour of Explora! There\'s many unique places and cultures to discover within the world. With so many locations, every couple of weeks, we want to give you a closer look at some of the towns, characters and stories you\'ll meet in the game.
What better way to start this tour than from the town that you come from? From under the waves and in the middle of the ocean, we\'re starting this tour with a closer look at the steampunk town of Sharkdwell, home to Capt. Jawline, Sir. Reginald Sharkingston and, of course, to you!
Let\'s get ready to depart on this journey together, shall we?
[/img]

Sharkdwell is right at the centre of Explora\'s vast ocean, and is a popular hub for trading! Back in its former days, Sharkdwell was an unremarkable mining town hidden deep away in the ocean. It became prosperous after Sir. Reginald Sharkingston stumbled upon a cave full of a mineral he named Sharknite. That mineral turned out to have amazing energetic properties and changed the town forever. With it, Reginald helped fund and push through the invention of airships, the creation of mechanical legs, and the creation of Sharkdwell\'s steampunk culture!
Over a century has passed since airships were invented, and merchants now roam the world, trading between towns. Nowadays, Sharkdwell is the most important town of the ocean, and sharks are apex adventurers. While the average shark doesn\'t interact much with outsiders, others depart to nearby towns, bringing goods from the land.
[/img]
The merchant and host for Sharkdwell is Capt. Jawline, your friend, mentor and boss, in that order! Jawline is a retired airship captain and spends his days as a merchant at Sharkdwell. Alongside that, he works as an airship mechanic and helps train new sharks for exploring and trading. That includes you, his favourite pupil!
Jawline is also a direct descendant of Sir. Reginald Sharkingston. After tweaking your airship, Jawline hands you Reginald\'s Journal, allowing you to use it as your own. As you learn the ropes of exploring and travelling around, he asks you to help him find its missing pages. Could there be a secret reason for his sudden request?
[/img]
Sharkdwell stocks many unique items in its trade and some favourites among seafolk. Some of the common items you can find in stock include the Algae Soup, Musical Conch and Mechanical Legs. Experienced traders can also get their hands on more airship supplies, as well as a plethora of sea creatures that can tag along with you on your journey.
Being in the middle of the ocean, most of what surrounds Sharkdwell is water. But travel around, and you\'ll find places full of resources! There\'s the Shark Depths, the mine where Reginald first discovered Sharknite, and Atlantis, a fishing spot that fish love to gather around. While most of the landmarks you\'ll discover are on land, these places are a great way to start collecting items beyond trading.
[/img]
As a bit of behind-the-scenes development, Sharkdwell and the decision to theme the story around sharks were very much made up on the spot! Townseek was originally made for the Global Game Jam in 2021. Like every game made during a game jam, we had a tight time limit to work with and brainstorm ideas. When we were thinking about how to theme the player\'s blimp in a unique way, that\'s when the juxtaposition of a shark flying among the clouds came to us. And we went with it!
That led to everything else, from the idea of using a steampunk machine to fly around, to having the sharks take a central role in the world. For us, Townseek is a game about how travel and getting to know the world changes you. We thought there\'d be no better way to represent that growth than going with a species that\'s never walked the land!
This also presented a fun design challenge! Early on, we were split between the decision to have sharks walk on the surface or looking like traditional long-tailed sharks, we came up with the idea of mechanical legs that they could attach and detach at any time! This also helped us improve the story, and show how determined Reginald was to explore and travel beyond Sharkdwell.

It\'s been a while since you\'ve last heard of Capt. Jawline and from our team, hasn\'t it? That changes now! Our crew is taking Townseek on a remote trip to Japan and heading to BitSummit ! While we\'re not going to be there in person, we\'re sending it off with a brand new look in tow and a new adventurous demo for all of you who\'ve been eager to play it!
[/img]
That\'s right! https://store.steampowered.com/app/2014110/Townseek_Demo/\"" style="color:#bb86fc;text-decoration:none;">Our Townseek Demo is back on Steam again! If you\'ve not had the opportunity to take a trip through Explora yet, now\'s the best time to do so! Fly at your own pace, trade over 200 items between five different towns, upgrade and customise your airship, discover landmarks, find random events, and much more.
And if you\'re a returning player, there\'re a ton of new things to discover as well! We\'ve rewritten the early game and its story, improved gamepad support, have a new photo mode for you to take photos of your journey, new cosmetics to equip, new conversations to have with hosts, and a lot more. As a heads-up, the demo is currently only available in English, but we\'re working to add more languages to the demo (including Japanese, Chinese, and others) soon.
We\'re really proud of the progress that we\'ve made these last few months. The game has never played better!

In addition to that, since we think this demo is finally a great representation of the full game, your save data from this demo will carry over to the full game! You\'ll be able to pick where you left off with your item collection, journal pages and quests.
If you\'ve enjoyed it or if you found any issues, give us a review onhttps://store.steampowered.com/app/2014110/Townseek_Demo/\"" style="color:#bb86fc;text-decoration:none;"> our demo page ! You can also send us your feedback through the Steam Forums or join our Discord Server to report to us any issues or suggestions you have.

We still don\'t have a new release date for the game just yet, but we\'re working towards it. We hope to have more news about it soon. While we\'ve been quiet, we\'ve been working non-stop on a lot of things that we think you\'re going to enjoy!

You can also notice that we\'re progressively giving a facelift to all the game\'s artwork with a new look! We\'ve got a new key art updated to match the game\'s art style since our original key art better matched the original jam game artwork. We also have a new logo to go along with it. Gone are the days when we\'d be called Ownseek. Explora has never looked better!

Whales And Games

In a surprising double-combo, at DevGAMM Lisbon , our team at Whales And Games won the award for Studio of the Year during the Spotlight Awards by Game Dev Lisbon! The very next day, Townseek won the prize for Best Game from Portugal at the DevGAMM Awards ! Receiving both these awards fills us with immense honour, and we're incredibly proud to receive them as a team!
To commemorate the occasion, we've drawn a special artwork to celebrate both of these awards! Whalechan, Capt. Jawline and Watt Zapp dressed in their fanciest outfits and were overjoyed to walk on stage to receive the awards!

To explain the background to these awards, earlier this month, our team attended DevGAMM Lisbon, a local conference focused on talks, networking, and its award show! Being two days long, it was a fantastic couple of days where we got to hang out with our colleagues, friends and meet even more developers from all over. It just so happens that networking with other developers is one of our favourite things to do! We also took the opportunity to attend some talks, take notes, and play some games.
This year, our team was nominated for two different award shows happening during the event. The first of these was the Spotlight Awards , organised by the local collective of game developers at Game Dev Lisbon . In previous years, Townseek and our team received nominations in different categories but didn't win any awards. This time, our team earned the nomination for Studio of the Year. Alongside us as nominees, were the talented teams at Massive Galaxy Studios , Funcom ZPX and Digitality Games .
Much to our surprise, Whales And Games won Studio of the Year!

Being around our local community for many years, we're really grateful for the jury for having picked us among our colleagues! Until our nomination, we hadn't stopped and reflected on the amount of work our studio did this past year. Between our trips and booths at GDC and gamescom, to the continuous events we put together, to all the work we've been doing towards bringing Townseek to its completion, we've really had a packed year! We're proud to be part of the Portuguese community and grateful for its vote of confidence for the year ahead.
The second award show of the event was the DevGAMM Awards , put together by the conference's main organizer. Being an international contest, this marked the first time we participated with Townseek in an award show of its scale. We were very surprised when the international jury nominated us as one of the candidates for Best Game in Portugal. Alongside us, we shared our nomination with the excellent ARC SEED , Demon Spore , Gloomy Juncture and The Night is Gray , all of which have their own Steam page! Our bets were on some of the other games receiving the award, as all of them rightfully deserved to earn it themselves.
Against all our expectations, to the point it left us shaking in shock, Townseek won Best Game from Portugal!

We're incredibly thankful to both the judges and event organisers for considering our game a worthy winner. We also really appreciate the feedback they've shared with us! Likewise, we also have to extend our thanks to Associao de Produtores de Videojogos Portugueses and Scorewarrior for delivering and making this award possible.
If you'd like to review the award ceremony by itself, you can watch the video here ! You can also read a recap of the event by the organizers through this post . You can spot the photos featuring us because of our Whales And Games themed hats!

Lastly, but not least, alongside the Spotlight Awards and the DevGAMM Awards, another long-running Portuguese showcase, Indie X Online , now in its sixth edition, also nominated us for Best Portuguese Game earlier this month! For that showcase, the award was won by Digitality Games for their upcoming game Floatylands. Still, we're thankful to Indie X and once again to Associao de Produtores de Videojogos Portugueses for including our game. It's been quite an eventful month!
We're truly at a loss of words to express the gratitude we've felt over these past weeks. With everything that happened this year, we're privileged to have such overwhelming love and support from our friends, family, peers, colleagues, community, supporters and from such a diverse industry. These awards inspire us to push forward with our work. We aim to make the industry and the world a better place, even if just by a little.

While we have one last surprise related to the events we've attended throughout the year that we'll be posting on our social media channels fairly soon, this pretty much closes out our event season for the year. It's time for our team to prepare for the holidays. We want to take some time to focus primarily on the game and on our community.
Finally, we wanted to close with a note for what's ahead, and we can confirm that Townseek will release in 2025! As we head into next year, we'll confirm a proper release date. We would rather not go through the irony of submitting our game to these award shows again next year.

We've been wrapping up pending tasks for the game and made great strides despite some challenges these last months. From improving the narrative, improving mouse controls, adding achievements, random events, and overall rounding off the game, we've been really busy! We're also addressing some of the last issues raised in previous demos. We're really thrilled with how the game has been shaping up!
We'll be diving back into action and showing you more of the characters, locations, and details we have spread across Explora soon! As always, you can keep up with us by joining us on either our Discord server , through any of our social media channels , or by following us here on Steam!
Well then, it's time for us to respond to these awards in kind, seek onwards, and finish charting Townseek! Cheers!
Whales And Games
We're excited to have Townseek as part of this year's line up for the Indie Arena Booth at gamescom , flying the game all the way to Kln in Germany! Starting on the 21st until the 25th of August, well be showing the game at the world's largest gaming expo. We'll be showing the game as part of the Indie Arena Booth at F010G - E019 on Hall 10.2, alongside many other stellar games. In the case that youre visiting gamescom in person, well be distributing cards and stickers featuring Capt. Jawline, Whiskey, Fluffyroll, and more familiar hosts from the game, so please stop by and grab some!

This will also be the first time all of our team at Whales And Games is together at one event! We've always been partially as a team at different events we've had the game at since the beginning of development. Yet this will be the first get-together where all three of us are present! Well be sharing photos of the trip and gamescom on our social media . And of course, we'll also share our adventures through our Discord Server !
Finally, as you might have realised by now, we've drifted a bit from our original release date in Early 2024. While we're still checking on a new release date we're comfortable with, we've decided to change all of our banners and release date to reflect the game is Coming Soon again. We're still hard at work with Townseek, but some things have required more time than we're originally expecting. Continents are much more detailed than we ever thought they'd be, and we've almost doubled the game story-wise.

We know many of you have been waiting for the game for a really long time. We really can't wait for you to get to visit Explora! We'll have to ask you to wait just a bit longer, but with us being at such a big event such as gamescom, we promise more regular and exciting news in the coming future! Thank you for sticking around and for waiting!

Discover some of the towns you can trade with in Explora! The Steam Capitalism and Economy Fest has just kicked off on Steam and with it, we're launching our new Townseek Economy Fest Demo to go alongside it!

Fly at your own pace, trade over 200 items between five different towns, upgrade and customise your airship, discover landmarks, find random events, and much more! If you've missed the demo during Steam Next Fest last year, this is your best opportunity to get a taste of the world and the characters we've got to offer, in an almost finished and polished state now!
If you're a returning player, this demo introduces many quality-of-life changes that were suggested over the previous demo, and introduces much more personality to Explora. You can now talk with town hosts to learn more about the world. Landmarks you discover might be a bit different due to random events. Your journal now tracks various stats and records of your voyages. There's new accessibility settings to help with motion sickness. And of course, we've improved the overall performance of the game by a lot, among numerous other changes!

Not only that, we expect this to be the last demo before the game releases. The demo will be available during the duration of the Economy Fest, so make sure to play it while it's available!
Given that, we'd love it if you'd share your feedback with us on the Steam Forums ! Regardless if you're an invested trader, or a casual explorer, we would love to know your thoughts, quality of life tweaks you'd like to see, and any other features you'd like to see, either when the game launches or in patches afterwards!

Additionally, if you don't follow us on socials yet, we've also got a brand-new social home for Townseek! You can follow us for constant peaks and teasers over at our new Twitter account. This new account gives us a fresh hub to post about the uniqueness of Explora from a whole perspective. Of course, we'll also continue sharing more news on Townseek over here or through our Discord Server !
Townseek's development has been a massive journey for us. It's hard to believe that we will be releasing the game in a few months time. There are still a few more features and locations we want to make sure are in the game before we put it out, so we're quite not done yet. However, as soon as we're ready and settle on a release date, we'll make sure you know!
Now then, get trading and fill your bag full of coins by trading among the many towns Explora has to meet! Cheers!

Hey there! Did you watch our new Townseek trailer during Wholesome Direct today? It was wonderful to have Townseek featured in our favourite cosy game showcase alongside so many amazing uplifting games, for the second time since we've started development! As we've premiered a new trailer during the direct, we wanted to break down some of the highlights of what we've shown today!
First of all, we're happy to confirm our release window! Get ready to travel the picturesque world of Explora when Townseek comes to Steam in Early 2024! We'll announce a specific date as we approach the end of the year. But first, we need to ensure every nook and cranny of the game is filled with delight and polished to perfection! We know that many of you have been eager to play it for a long time. We'll make sure to make the wait worth your while!

After a long wait, we have finally unveiled some things that have been holding on for a while! We'd like to start by introducing you to the nomadic town of Vushkaar! Nested within the ice continents of Explora, these tough dwarves are quite adventurous and restless! Be on the lookout, for they might abandon the area and pop up in some unexpected places! Vushkaar is also the last town from our original jam release to be adapted into the full game, and we couldn't be prouder!

In addition to the new town, we've also been hard at work crafting an engaging narrative for Townseek! We're thrilled to finally introduce you to Sir Reginald Sharkingston, the first shark to take to the skies and explore the world! Put together the lost pages of his journal and discover his captivating adventure as you discover new towns and learn more about the world!
Where did he go? What did he learn? Did he leave any treasure behind? And how did the different towns of the world change him as a shark? We can't wait for you to find out!

Lastly, if you've played our previous demos, you know that we've got special companions joining us from other games! However, we've kept some of our most celebrated guests a surprise until now! We're proud to collaborate and bring Lil Gator from Lil Gator Game , The Lamb from Cult of the Lamb , and Claire from A Short Hike into the world of Townseek! If you're an indie game enthusiast like us, you might see even more familiar faces in the future!
Besides our special guests, we've got many companions unique to Explora who can accompany you in your travels! From floating jellyfish, racoon rascals, to airplane kiwis, there'll always be a companion alongside you as you travel the world.
Aside from these highlights, the trailer also included more shots of the game's exploration and trading! Since every trailer is someone's first time getting to know Townseek, we always like mixing it with clips old and new! From exploration, trading, to all of the different activities, there'll be something for you to enjoy in Explora!

Speaking of collaborations, there's one more thing! Wholesome Direct has once again teamed up with The Yetee to release shirts themed to the event! And the shirt featuring many of the games that have appeared on the event also features Townseek's iconic airship! These shirts will be on sale until the 30th of June, so go ahead and grab them while they're available! We'll make sure to grab some extras ourselves! You can find them in this collection!
We're currently knee-deep in development and making great progress! Even so, we'll continue to update you with more news and development updates they come up. For now, if you'd like to support us, you can do so by wishlisting Townseek! Your wishlists are a tremendous help, both analytically and on a personal level!
Whales And Games, along with our publisher at Super Rare Originals , is humbled by the reception, kind words and enthusiasm that Townseek has received! If you'd like to continue sailing with us, consider joining our vibrant community at our Discord Server! Not only do we share more news and sneak peaks of the game's development, but also hang out, talk games, share artwork, and occasionally play games together! You're more than invited to join us!
Time to sign off! Thanks again for everything and to Wholesome Direct and Wholesome Games for once again having us in their showcase! We hope you've enjoyed the news we've put together, and that you look forward to the game arriving early next year! Cheers!

Townseek is featured as part of the The MIX Spring Showcase ! We're featured as part of both the Steam event and the livestream that happened earlier today!
We've revealed an exclusive look at the brand new town of Amperion during the stream, which we had never shown in any of the previous news posts or through social media! The town of Amperion sits to the north of the world close to the glaciers of Explora. It's an electrical town filled with all kinds of technology, sockets and screens, and home to sentient electricity!

Alongside it, we've also shown the new town host, Watt Zapp! She'll give you a shocking greeting! And as you can expect, all of Amperion's unique items are modern and technologically advanced!
What led to the creation of these electrical beings, and what's with the huge crater that is nearby? Those are some of the mysteries of Explora that you'll have to discover once the game gets in your hands!

The showcase features several other amazing indies as well, such as Viewfinder, Paper Trail, Moonstone Island, and more along with Townseek! We hope you have a whale of a time discovering all that Explora has to offer! Cheers!
Whales And Games

Hey there! Other than our recent surprise release of Townseek's Early Demo , you might have realised that we've been missing in action with these news posts lately.
Things have been really busy for us these last months! We've been working hard on Townseek every day! We've been participating in industry events all over the world again, attending conferences like the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, seeking publishing opportunities and deals for Townseek to push the game further. We've received new accolades, like being the golden bat winner at the Big Indie Pitch in London, and participating in a multitude of Steam events!
And of course, there are also major milestones happening with Whales And Games, our studio which recently kicked off its 5th Anniversary celebrations! We're kicking off our 6th year by becoming an official limited liability company here in Portugal! It not only allows us to dedicate more time to Townseek and our upcoming projects, but also gives us the opportunity to put together many more projects and opportunities that we hope to unveil in the future!

But most importantly, we continue working day-to-day on the game! So, let's catch up, and get right into some of the latest Townseek news! As announced last month, we are currently running an Early Demo for Townseek through Steam up until the 30th of July! The original date was earlier on the 28th of June, but we have extended it to go alongside our anniversary celebrations and this brand-new status report. If you haven't tried the early demo yet, this week is your best chance to do so!
Releasing this demo was a sudden decision for us. However, with the recent Dreamhack Beyond and Wholesome Direct Steam events, we felt this was the best opportunity for us to gather some feedback at this time. We also wanted to test out the initial impressions of player's of the game! We're really happy about the feedback that we've received so far! There are several tweaks and changes we already want to make in the game according to feedback we've received.

But we'll be leaving the changes we plan to do with the feedback for a future post, as we first wanted to reflect on the changes we've made for Townseek these past months. On the last big update we made on the status of the game back in November of last year, we talked about how one of our goals was to focus more on major game systems. Over the last months, that's precisely what we did! With those changes, several aspects of the game were greatly revamped since the jam version!
Starting with towns, the town and trading experience in Townseek has been massively overhauled! With towns being the namesake of the game, our goal with the full version is to put much more focus on them. We want to bring unique charisma and attention to all of the different towns around the world. Originally, towns were just stops for trading, without much else to do besides exchanging inventory.
Now, when you visit a town, you're first presented with a Town Hub, which gives you a small description about the town and introduces you to the town's host. You also get snippets of information about how the town trades, such as currency, categories, and items in demand. This interface also has a lot more charisma, with unique banners, icons and backgrounds for each of the towns. From this hub, you can select one of the three options of things to do there: Trade with Town, Town Quests and Talk with Host.

When you select Trade with Town you're presented your options to exchange merchandise with towns. We've changed the way that items are presented into easily readable grids on both your inventory and the towns. Hovering over an item shows new information beyond just their flavour text, such as the item's category, average price, and the status of the item within the town.
Item categories define how the price of an item fluctuates in a town. Different towns will have different preferences in which item categories they're looking for. Some towns will favour Valuables, while others might value Food. While towns will favour some categories, there's a small chance you could be selling an item of the same category at a loss the next time you visit!

Towns will also sell unique items including Upgrades and Cosmetic Items for your airship. Most of these are, however, locked behind a Town's Reputation Rank. As you sell new items to a town or complete town quests (more on that next), your reputation with them will increase. After you obtain a certain amount of reputation points (RP), you'll rank up with that town!
Ranking up unlocks a slew of new items, better category fluctuations, and more. Rank up with towns all over the world to complete your collection and uncover new areas to explore!
Finally, one new additional town trading feature are the Items in Demand! Towns each will have an item in demand that changes from a pool of possibilities every few minutes. These items sell for much higher price than their average value. If you happen to have these in your inventory, they're a great way for some quick profit!

Another big new aspect to towns are Town Quests! Town Quests provide you with various tasks provided to you by each town's host. Some can include quests asking you to fetch certain items from other towns. You might have to engage in certain activities or deliver tourists from a town to a specific landmark in the world. There's even some unique quests depending on the location.
Completing Town Quests rewards you with a greater amount of currency, reputation points and sometimes even items in a single go. Of course, rewards vary depending on the task, and the quests available rotate regularly. The amount of quests that you can take from a town at a time is limited. As you improve your Town Reputation Rank you'll be able to take more quests at once. With so many towns to explore, you'll have many quests at your disposal to tackle in the order you want!

These Town Quests also relate to the Journal of Sir Reginald Sharkingston, as you'll have to perform various quest branches in order to collect the different pages from all over the different towns. We'll be going more in-depth about how the game's story will play out into the game in future reports. For now, simply know that the way pages are collected is built directly on top of these quest systems.
As development progresses, we'll continue balancing and experimenting with different town mechanics. Our goal is to create interesting and diverse quests. And of course, we're taking into consideration the feedback we've received with the early demo. We expect to have made massive improvements by the time that we get to show our game to the public again with a new demo!
Additionally, as we mentioned previously in this post, we're currently looking into potential publishing opportunities for Townseek. We can't go in-depth at how conversations are headed at this time, but we believe that the game has some amazing possibilities headed its way! We hope to be able to speak more about them soon!

These last years of Whales And Games were very transitional for us as developers, with us figuring out exactly what kinds of games we wanted to make, and trying to find our place in the industry. Gladly, our fifth year and working on Townseek have helped us in all of those regards!
We're incredibly grateful to be working on a project that means much to us. There are some really great people, even more than you might realise, helping us shape the project the best it can be! Of course, there's still a lot of work to be done until the game is actually out by next year and many more news will follow as the months go by. We can't wait to show you some of the stuff we're cooking in the background!
If you end up taking the Early Demo for a spin, we'd love to know your feedback through our Feedback Thread or by hopping over to our Discord Server ! Alternatively, if you prefer more bite-sized updates and sneak peaks rather than these longer news posts, we continue posting progress through both our Twitter and through our Instagram .
Thank you to all of you who have wishlisted and followed Townseek so far, and we can't wait to show you what's in store for the future! Cheers!
Whales And Games

Hey there! Long time no see! You might have noticed that we have been a bit missing-in-action in updates these last few months. You'll be glad to know that it's not because things have been slow on development, but in fact, much the opposite! Keep your eyes out, as we're about to unveil to you something about an early demo.
Development on Townseek has been advancing at such an incredible pace these past few months that we've barely had any time left to write and make update posts! As the dust is finally settling down now that we've finished some big internal milestones; and as big partnerships are starting to come together on the horizon; we're planning to return to the monthly update posts!
But, rather than having you wait or reading a news post to check on the status of the game, we're putting it in your hands instead! We're happy to announce that we've just released an Early Demo for Townseek available to download right now!

This early demo of the game features 5 different towns, over 20 landmarks to discover, and more than 120 items to collect! It also covers some of the original jam version's activities with fishing and mining; and introduces some new ones such as foraging and quests. While our internal development version has a lot more content at this time, like digging, bottles, and more towns, we believe this is a good vertical slice of the game! It shows you what we're up to without spoiling much of what we've got in the works!
While the game is still very much a work-in-progress, and there's at least one year of development time left on the clock, we consider that now is a great opportunity to check on the overall interest in the game! Since we won't be doing early access, it's important for us to use opportunities like these to collect feedback on what we can improve on the game. It also helps us understand what folks are looking forward to; gives the chance for players to see how the game plays out; while also providing us the opportunity to receive feedback on what we should balance and polish!

The demo will be available until the 28th of June! It'll be available alongside Dreamhack Beyond, Summer Games Fest, Wholesome Direct, and while we're not participating on it officially, Steam Next Fest! We believe that's enough time for you to check on the game, especially as the demo should last anywhere from an hour or two for full collection completion.
Of course, if you miss the demo for any reason, fear not! There'll be plenty of future opportunities for a new demo and more showcases later down the road!

In case that you have some questions about the demo and what's to come, please check out our Townseek Early Demo F.A.Q. and Feedback Thread ! It should encompass most of the doubts that could rise. Naturally, feel free to let us know if you've got any further questions, and use the thread to provide any feedback about the game!

On top of the demo, there's a lot more happening around Whales And Games! We will be celebrating our 5th anniversary soon! Look forward to it, as it will include more in-depth development details and insight! Five years, where does the time go?
We'll also be showing up on Wholesome Direct , this Saturday, alongside almost a hundred of other wholesome games. Pay attention as, while our time-spot will be a bit on the short-side, it'll include some new footage of towns that are not included in the demo!
And that's about it for now! We wouldn't want to stop you from playing the demo any longer, would we? Take it for a spin, and when you're done, feel free to either use the Feedback Thread or hop into our Discord Server to share your findings, opinions and feedback about our game! And for more frequent updates and sneak peeks, follow us on Twitter !
We hope you have a whale of a time exploring this first look at the brand new world of Townseek! We'll be seeing you in the next post! Cheers!
Whales And Games

Hey there! Its time for another update on how the development of Townseek is progressing! As development on the full version continues, our focus has been on updating the content weve already got in-game. Our goal right now in early development is to keep improving on our existing jam game base, while we start to add some of the new content weve got planned on top.
On the last news update , we showed some early previews of our new art direction and some new locations. We showcased a new town, Burrowburg, and one of our new biomes, the Golden Forest. This time around, were creating brand-new areas, while also improving on the existing content!
Bear in mind that all the placement of locations and how the game currently looks is not final! Were still experimenting with some elements, and the final product might look different in some ways. But for now, wed say that the direction is right on track!

Coming back from the original jam version, weve remade the towns of Meowosville, Driplands, and Lawride Town with our new art direction in mind!Since we want these towns to feel more like a natural extension of the world this time around, they actually extend beyond their interacting area, populating more of the continents where they reside. The Driplands extend towards the nearby swamp, complete with crocodiles and frogs. Meowosville has a denser forest than Burrowburg and is close to a familiar dog park. Lawride Town is beyond a mountain belt, surrounded by nature and bandits.
Aside from the towns and continents, were also focused on giving the ocean some additional personality! You can spot sharks, whales, and corals, and even some new landmarks! Given how important the ocean is to the world of Townseek, we felt it was necessary to spice it up too. We want there to be more ocean towns, and for the sea to add even more to the ambience of the game!

Another one of our goals for the game is to make as much of the sound design reactive and dynamic as possible. In addition to each town having its own set of instruments that plays when the player is in their proximity, were also adding in unique music tracks to each area of the map, giving each zone their own musical personality!
Were also doubling-down on the unique ambient sounds and details for the new mini-biomes. In the Mossy Marsh that neighbours the Driplands youll be able to hear the sounds of the frogs and flies while flying above it. Likewise, you can hear a chilly breeze when youre in the snowy-regions and mountain tops. Weve also added an extra variety of forest and ocean sounds too!
Finally, but not least, we had the pleasure to sit down with Joo Correia from Indie X , Portugals biggest indie game showcase, for a first look at the full version of Townseek! While most of the gameplay so far is based on the jam version of the game, we invite you to watch the recording of the stream!
During the stream, we talk about some of the gameplay work weve been doing in the background. These include improving our codebase and some of the new systems we have implemented in the background. Our goals for the next months are to continue implementing some of the new systems, features and side-activities weve got planned!
And thats it for this update! The holidays are practically here, so put your jolly face and join us at our Discord server to share the holiday spirit! And make sure to follow us out on Twitter for more Townseek previews!
December will be packed with things to do, but well do our best to make this into a memorable end of the year! If we dont see you until then, then have some great holidays! Cheers!
Whales And Games

Hey there! Since its been a while since the games announcement, we wanted to begin providing some updates about how development of the full version of Townseek is progressing! While we normally post full Status Reports at our studios blog that cover everything were working on across projects and our community, our news posts here will be exclusively focused on Townseeks development, unless one of those additional projects or community events happens to involve the game as well!
Our goal is to post these on a regular monthly basis! Sometimes we might take a bit longer or an extra month, but rest assured were always working our hardest and giving our best on the game!
There are a lot of new features we want to include in our new full version of the game that were currently developing. These are even more apparent if youve played our original Jam Version of Townseek. One of these is a new, colourful art direction thats accompanied by a much larger and interesting world to explore! Today, and to get started with one of these news posts, we wanted to show you a peak of how that art style is coming along.

At this time, were currently working on blocking out our new world map and detailing our first continents and areas. Weve had the chance to experiment with our new art direction by designing a new continent that is host to the town of Burrowburg and their adorable bunny inhabitants!
Our end goal is to take the same soothing and curiosity-inducing feeling of the previous sepia-style map from the original game Jam Version and translate it to this brand new colourful art direction. Were aiming to give more charisma to each individual location and make each place you visit a memorable one!
Speaking of locations, in our previous version of the game, you could come across landmarks that were independent points of interest, like a big character or some interesting monument, spread across the map that youd stumble upon and discover. In the full version, however, we want to have groups of landmarks that are part of larger zones all-together.

One of these new landmark areas were currently working on is the Golden Forest, an area filled with autumn and maple coloured trees. Despite being its own big area, it is also the host to its own smaller landmarks like a Beehive Colony.
Of course, thats just one of the many areas that weve got planned for this full version! From snowy and icy peaks, marshes and beaches, theres a lot of new stuff to love in this map of the game, and we hope that you look forward to exploring it!
In future updates we also hope to share some more insight on how some of our game mechanics are going to come together. Up until now, towns in the game were mostly trading outputs, where you could sell and buy items to have enough gold to purchase balloons and tools. We want to increase the protagonism of towns and we have some systems designed through which we hope to achieve just that!
For now, make sure to add the game to your wishlist! It really does help us out!

While the holiday season seems to already be quickly approaching, were still celebrating our communitys Whaloween event until next week! Make sure you keep your spooky costumes on and join us there! You can also follow us over on our Twitter where we frequently share Screenshot Saturdays previews of Townseek!
As we continue developing our art style and as we have more progress to share, we hope to see you in future posts! Cheers!

We received many comments with praise for the game and suggestions for more features and town! It became clear to us that players wanted to continue exploring this world weve created!
Building on top of the latest jam version, there are several new features were working on for this full-version for Steam. These include a new colourful art direction; a new main quest featuring the journal of Sir Reginald Sharkington; new-side activities such as farming and digging for treasure; and of course, several new towns and townspeople to seek!
