It's time for another update!
Firstly, apologies for the duration this update took, but it's finally here! In this update, we now have Team Battles, a new car, and a new track!
New Game Mode: Team Battles
You can now join up with your friends and battle as a Team! Team Battles support 2v2 up to 5v5 battles. For now, it is a very basic implementation, and will be expanded upon in the near future to include more different rules of battling, such as concurrent uphill and downhill battles, and allowing players to vote on the lineup to allow more strategies.
New Car: Suisei
At long last, the most requested car to be added is here. Check it out!
New Track: Remade Enna Skyline
Due to production reasons, to complete Enna Skyline we had to remake it from scratch, and now the full length version is here!
Other Changes, Improvements and Fixes
- Added a "Car Radar" to better visualize where other cars are around you (optional)
- Made more settings changeable while driving
- Inverted "yes" and "no" buttons for tutorials
- Tuned shifting ranges of automatic gearbox
- Minor rendering optimization (disabled shadows for mirrors)
- Fixed "Stop Spectating" forcing to follow camera
- Fixed spectators getting kicked sometimes when PvP battles begin
- Potential fix for joining lobbies being unreliable
- Fixed Okawa free roam spawn points clipping into barriers
- Fixed various VR related multiplayer bugs
- Fixed missing effects for various new rims
- Fixed some checkpoints for Myogi
It's time for VR!
In our opinion, all cockpit based games should support VR, as they're the best ways to immerse players in the experience. Now, we're proud to say that Touge Shakai supports Virtual Reality! If you have a headset that works with SteamVR, TS should work with it. We also believe that TS is one of the most detailed racing games in terms of interior animations, and we're really proud of it. Now, they can be experienced as intended!
In our implementation, all of the regular user interface has been adapted to work within the VR environment, and the menu experiences should be familiar. During scenes that are unsuitable for VR, such as camera panning or third person cameras, the game will render these scenes on a "virtual monitor" to prevent motion sickness.
Just a couple of things to take note of:
- Please bind the "Reset VR Position" control within settings before firing up VR
- If you have SteamVR installed, enter the game normally and an option to "Activate VR" should be on the main menu
- There is a setting to lock the camera to the horizon under "Camera" settings
- VR mode is still slightly experimental and there might be some things we have to fix
New Track: Myogi
Another great track from the past has been made for TS, and... it's Myogi! A unique but unusual aspect of this location is that for parts of the course, the sides of the road are flanked by wide and low pavements. It's up to you to exploit them to achieve the best racing line!
Changes, Improvements and Fixes
- Added a crapton more rims to unlock (You now unlock a new rim every 2 levels!)
- Added more decals provided by kickstarter backers
- Optimized mirror rendering
- Optimized ghost car rendering
- Fixed minimap hiding at night system causing game to lock up
- Fixed opponent driving over puddle causing controller to vibrate
- Fixed wrong online ghosts for rain
- Fixed sending records to leaderboard failing inconsistently
Rain is here!
In the last announcement about the system being complete, the puddles were randomly placed by the system. Feedback from our testers was that there were many puddles where it made no sense, which made the puddles more of a hindrance than adding to the overall fun. Hence, we've decided to rewrite the system, and now the puddles are hand placed, which was a much more laborious task than we had anticipated. We hope that you guys will now have fun challenging the touge in the wet!
New Track: Tsuchisaka
It's finally time for a new track, and we're happy to announce that Tsuchisaka will now join the roster as one of the custom made maps for TS. In our previous game, Tsuchisaka was one of our favourite tracks, with a great layout, big elevation changes, and slow and high speed sections. We're really excited for it to make a comeback, and believe that it will quickly grow to be one of your favourite tracks here too!
Walltap Penalty System
In the top level of players, a driving style has emerged, whereby to drift the rear of the car into the guardrails to gain time. The penalty system has been updated specifically to detect this exploit, and should generally not affect the penalties of other forms of collision. Gentle wall taps should still not be penalized. Thereby, along with the new track and rain weather, we've decided that it would be a good time to reset the leaderboards. We hope to see a cleaner driving style at the top of the leaderboards soon!
Changes, Improvements and Fixes
- Added AMD FSR3 Upscaler (upscaler only, not frame gen)
- Attempted fix at "Connecting to server failed" issue. If this issue still occurs to you outside of server maintanence periods, please ping me!
- Made multiplayer lobby creation remember last setting
- Fixed game crashing when player level exceeds 404 (<- lol)
- Made opponent disappear from minimap when their headlights are off during night time
- Fixed Futatabi missing colliders
- Fixed Okawa missing colliders
- Added better error handling to ghost loading
Server will be down again for maintenance for 1-2 hours (7th February 2024 2:30PM UTC+8), some online functionality (leaderboards, online ghosts, liveries etc) will temporarily be unavailable. As usual, new players who has not registered their license plate yet will not be able to play the game at this time, but existing players will still be able to access the game without problems. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Hi guys! Sorry for staying silent for so long. Since it's the end of 2023, We thought it'll be important to give you guys an update!
Firstly, I would like to give an update about my mother. I'm happy to say that she has been recently discharged from the hospital! However, she has not fully recovered, and we need to take care of her at home. Hence, it has actually been taking up more of my time and energy, but fortunately things are looking good. With the less time I've left remaining for TS, I've chosen to spend as much of that time as possible on development, hence the lack of interaction on the Discord server recently. I sincerely apologize for that.
However, on a more positive note: Rain is almost complete! And I'm pretty proud of our implementation of it. Other than just a graphical effect, it also affects the physics. Other than the wet roads being more slippery, there are also physical puddles that the tyres will react to.
We've also been working on adding a new custom-made track specifically for TS, which we're currently not ready to show just yet. In the next update, which should be ready in the coming weeks, these are the major new content you can look forward to! In the meantime, check out these teasers and wishing you guys a Happy New Year!

- Fixed collider and pop-in issues with Happogahara and Okawa
Due to some family problems, some of the bigger features will have to be delayed. You can read more about them in #announcements on our Discord! Sorry for the delays.
New Car: Nishi
With the same engine as the Makushi but with 4 seats, bring your whole family along for some sideways action!
Changes, Improvements and Fixes

Fixes
- Fixed car color syncing issue - Fixed Okawa rogue railing - Fixed invisible ledge in Soramine - Possible fix of game being recognized as a VR game incorrectly
While the Unity debacle was happening in the previous month, we decided to hold back on developing major new features for the game. In the meantime, we have spent some time researching on alternative game engines, in addition to polishing and fixing some long standing issues within the game. After the most recent announcement by Unity, we've decided to continue to stick with this game engine and development of TS should continue as planned
New Car: Makushi
A well balanced car that looks as good as it drives. We think that its greatest aspect is how well it handles, give it a try!
New Automatic Save Backup System
We have received reports of save files getting corrupted and players losing all their progress, and we understand how frustrating this can be! As such, in this new build of the game, the latest 10 save files will be kept. When loading, the game will search for the newest file, and if it is corrupted, the game will automatically attempt to load the older save files. Hopefully, this will prevent total loss of game progress and only rollback some progress in the event of a file corruption
Collision Sounds
One of the most requested additions is for collisions to have a little more oomph. We've now added collision sounds, and we think they sound pretty good and add a decent amount of immersion to the game
Rendering Optimizations
Another long standing complaint is that the game runs poorer than expected. We've worked on optimizing much of the rendering pipeline of the game: as such, it should now yield a much higher framerate. However, this is not the end of our optimisation process! We are still in the midst of making more tweaks and adjustments to further boost the performance of the game. Our work will also lay the groundwork for more graphically demanding features such as rain, and VR. Stay tune for more updates in the coming (month)!
Other Changes and Fixes
- Fixed reflection settings tied to user, now device specific - Fixed interior lighting materials of some cars - Slightly optimized car file sizes and loading - Attempted fix for odometer NaN bug - Improved various materials across some cars
The server will be going down for maintenance for a short while. Leaderboards, online ghosts and liveries will be unavailable during this period. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.

New Game Mode: Tofu Delivery
Confident in driving fast? How about driving smoothly? Challenge yourself in the new tofu delivery game mode! The name of the game is smooth driving. Each time you jerk your car, the tofu will take damage, and the goal is to deliver the tofu in the best shape possible, while speed is the secondary objective. A dedicated leaderboard has been introduced for this game mode.

It has come to our attention that there some concerns with the state of the game right now, so we'll like to address them. Although we have launched the game in Early Access, it has been made known to us that we have not communicated clearly how the development of the game is going to progress.
Being a new start up and our first time developing a full blown game, it's difficult to confidently lay out an entire development road map, but we'll like to share how we plan on working and expanding the game.
Right now, we are fully aware that the game is still far from being completed, and is lacking in content and features for it's asking price. However, we plan to include many more cars and tracks into the game in the coming months.
We plan to have a "Major Update" about every month, whereby we add new content and features, such as cars, tracks, and gameplay features. After each "Major Update", a few smaller patches and hot-fixes will follow to fix and improve upon these new features that we have just added. For some of the features that will be coming to the game, please check out the Early Access section on the store page.
If you're interested in Touge Shakai, but are on the fence about jumping aboard, please continue to watch the development and updates we bring in the subsequent months! In the meantime, here is a sneak peek of the new car that we are bringing in the next content update: The NXR

Linux is not in the OS list.
The driving physics are mainly simulated, but not to the extent of hardcore racing simulators. The driving characteristics of each car is tailored to be distinctly different from each other, and require drivers to master different driving styles to bring out the best in each car. The objective is to be fun while remaining believable. However, there's a twist to the driving physics: Drifting is faster than grip driving for most rear-wheel drive vehicles.
Features
- Unique sim-cade driving physics designed for Touge Battles
- Time Attack against local and online ghosts
- Multiplayer lobbies for free roaming and impromptu battles
- Cosmetic car customization - Body kits and custom liveries
- Unique Touge racing modes
- Steering wheel support with Force Feedback
- In-game music player - Load your own tracks into the game
Coming later
- Progression - Unlock new cars and parts as you hit objectives
- Virtual Reality Support
- Different weather conditions - Rain, fog
- Online matchmaking and ranking
- Driver and team profiles
- Replay camera editor - Setup race cameras using key frames
Game modes
Time AttackRace against the clock with various cars and courses to improve your pace and compete on the leaderboards. Players can also challenge the “ghosts” of other players, which are apparitions of their previous runs to learn from their driving. Medals are awarded with target timings, and provides progression for customization for each car.
PvP Battle
Classic touge-style battle. Battles rules include "First to finish" and "Cat and Mouse". Cat and Mouse has a leader and a chaser, with the leader trying to pull away and the chaser trying to keep up. The leader wins when they finish the course by a fixed distance from the chaser, while the chaser wins if they manage to overtake by the finish. The race moves on to the next round in a draw, with their positions reversed. Cat and Mouse mode is recommended as it provides the fairest battle, as overtaking is difficult and dangerous on the touge.
Team battles consist of multiple PvP Battles ongoing at the same time, with the team with the most wins coming out on top.
Free Ride
Practice, socialize and start impromptu races with others on the touge and just have fun! Learn from others and enjoy the course without the pressure of winning or losing. Showcase your rides and hang out with other racers and teams.
