The title explains it all. Im nominating it in the most innovative gameplay category, since it might be the first anti-rhythm game ever.
In the tutorial textboxes update, a mysterious character dubbed the researcher was introduced as the notes author. While this improved readability and immersion, I still felt a bit unsatisfied with how her character came out of nowhere.
So now she is in the game.
This update completely overhauls the tips area in the rain levels. Rather than just getting a random tip, you get to chat with the researcher. The dialogue options start as descriptions for the games general mechanics in the first level, but the options in latter levels will be tied to the items and remixes active and the endings reached. This new area is completely optional and not required to reach any ending or achievement.
This update also changes the type of levels chosen a bit. Basically, theres a restriction to avoid getting consecutive rain levels and not being able to pay the pearl tax.
Or 6$ with extra steps. Big thanks to Steam for updating the price this quick.
Ok, I miscalculated the price. I thought 9$ would be fair due to similar games of experimental nature and duration being around 9$ or 10$, but looking back this game is just too experimental for that price tag. I already proposed a new price of 6$, but I don't know when Steam will publish the changes.
Are your ears ready for the most creative suffering they will ever experience? DETUNED is finally out. 8 endings, lots of strange remixes and places to see, and almost zero hope for silence. Dont forget to report any bugs you find!
Or maybe 14 July, depending on when the Steam Summer Sale ends so DETUNEDs release doesnt get buried by it.
Yes, you read the title right. After reaching 6 of the 8 endings, DETUNED will unlock its greatest source of frustration: the song editor. This has been a pain in the keyboard to make due to the game being designed around random generation, but its finally working. You even get to name your audio-based creations of pain.
This isnt the only new addition. The built-in achievement system from Me and My Eldritch Parasite returns to this game, this time with 17 achievements (technically 10 since the 8 endings have a separate achievement each one to double as a way to check your progress).
So what now? Well, mostly lots of testing and polishing remain to be done, but the game is fully playable at the moment. I intend to wait for the Steam Next Fest to see if the demo gets any attention there, and release it in late June.
Welcome to another chunk of text only 2 or 3 people will read.
Most of the main game is done at the moment. Most of the changes have been just adding new stuff on top of what was in the demo. How much new stuff exactly?
-16 different remixes (gameplay modifiers)
-8 song types, now named with fancy Italian music words.
-A boss battle at the end of every run.
How does a boss battle work in DETUNED? Rather than just surviving until the song is over, you need to build up a series of pearl combos. The boss level also has a different note visualization and over 10 special remixes. These special remixes are variations of some of the remixes and song types that you encountered during the current run.
So far, a run seems to take around half an hour, so the game should take 4 hours to complete if you dont die a single time. Im aiming for a price tag of 9$ so hopefully all of that gameplay time wont give me trouble with Steams refund policy.
Oh, theres also a new item in the shop. It costs one pearl and it makes the game harder.
Ok, technically speaking, its not an updated version of the demo, but a mutilated version of the current project. But thats too long for a title.
While developing this game I made some changes, meaning the old demo doesnt give you a proper idea of what you might find in the full game. For starters, the random song generation system has been remade from scratch. No more loading screens before every level and repeating sections. Furthermore, the reverse songs can now mix normal and reverse notes. All of these changes are reflected in the new demo, which contains around half of a normal run in the full game.
Additionally, the game now has 8 alternate endings. They are determined by 3 special items, 2 of them can be obtained in the store but change the games difficulty. The third one is obtained in a trivia minigame, which means the status screen in the rain levels has an actual purpose besides looking cool.
Title says it all. It might be unstable since I have only been able to test it on a virtual machine.
