Today were going to check out the watery world that sets the stage for SteamWorld Heist II and take a look at the overworld gameplay! But first, you know the drill: You can get all the details of this blog in our latest Gameplay Deep Dive video, this time featuring the dulcet tones of Kyle, narrator for SteamWorld Heist II. Well, like the humans used to say, whatever floats your boat Right then, lets dive in and talk a bit about the story!

Characters & Story

Steam-powered robots need water to work, and in outer space, its in short supply. There is one exception - the great oceanic Shard, a slice of the shattered Earth that orbits the planets exposed core. However, something seems to be poisoning the shards sea, making it corrosive to those that rely on it. In response, the Royal Navy has enforced strict control over the resource, raising tensions to a boiling point not that any of this really bothers Captain Quincy Leeway, a bot who lives in the long shadow of his mother, the great Krakenbane. Hes more concerned with his confiscated submarine - and hes just heard a rumour about where it might be docked! As the leader of his crew, Quincy is the character youll be controlling in between missions. Hell visit the fine establishments of the Shard, recruiting new team members and purchasing upgrades, weapons and items for your crew. However, due to his missing arm, Quincy cant assist during missions and will have to leave it to his starting crewmates: the adoring Daisy who thinks the world of her captain and Wesley, a gentlebot who wants nothing more than to die an honourable death in combat. Life goals are important, I suppose

World Map & Locations

Weve revamped the way you pick missions in SteamWorld Heist II. This time, the world around you is a great mystery and youll need to clear the fog in order to discover new locations, missions and secrets using your trusty submarine. But youre far from alone in sailing the Great Sea. The power-hungry Royal Navy patrols the waters of East and West Caribbea and they will attack on sight. There really is no shame in bravely running away - cant save the world from the afterlife now can you? If you get past the patrols, youll eventually run into the Great Wall which separates sunny Caribbea from the bolt-chilling Artica. But getting to the other side of the barrier will be no small feat since the Royal Navy has armed it to the teeth - and then some! Should you somehow cross the wall; good news! Youre now in Rattler territory, where youre apt to get a cold welcome from this bone-crazed faction. And beyond that? Who knows? The ocean is vast, full of buried secrets. Some of them perhaps best left in the deep

Ship Combat

If youre looking to better acquaint yourself with the afterlife, an alternative to running away from patrolling ships may be to face them head-on. Just line up your shots and let your submarines weapons deal damage to your foes. But beware, your enemies wont sit by idly, so careful manoeuvring will be key to your survival. Not to mention your enemies arsenal of underwater mines, missile silos and mighty flagships Should your ship get wrecked, dont worry. Youll respawn at the latest bar youve visited - though any gallons youve picked up will be forever lost, so be careful.

Ship Upgrades

As you uncover more of the Great Oceanic Shard, youll unlock new equipment for your submarine.

• Attach machine-guns, lasers and rockets to make short work of any marauding menace.
• Gain a speed boost that lets you discover new areas.
• Load up on armour and grab faster reloads for your arsenal.
• And, maybe even find an upgrade that lets your busted submarine duck back under the waves

The Great Sea Shard is filled to the brim with secrets, missions and stories for you to uncover. So grab your map, set course and prepare for a heck of a Heist! Were glad to see you made it to our first Gameplay Deep Dive where we will be diving into the delicately crafted mechanics that youll use as you lead your crew and sail the great oceanic shard. Let's kick off with a closer look at some heart-pounding gunplay!

Gunning for Victory

Just like its predecessor, the combat in SteamWorld Heist II is turn-based, plunging you into thrilling missions where you'll scrap bots, snatch loot, and strive to emerge victorious (and if possible alive). And yes, prepare for bullets to bounce! Strategically ricochet your shots off walls, ceilings, and even other bots to outsmart your foes and execute amazing trick shots.
But there's more to success than sheer firepower...

Job System

Enter the innovative job system. As captain, it's your duty to fine-tune your crew's abilities for peak performance. The other robots who inhabit this shard come in all different parts and sizes. Some will aid you and your team on your journey. Recruit them to your crew and use our all new job system to assign roles and abilities. Each crewmate's job is determined by the weapons you equip them with, and each job has different weapons and abilities, enabling a multitude of different play-styles. Meet your crew:

• Snipers: Masters of precision with laser-sighted weapons showing their projectile's path, leaving no hiding spot safe. Good luck hiding from a Snipers eye!
• Flankers: Lightning-fast looters armed with powerful shotguns. Enemies better watch their backs!
• Brawlers: Heavy-hitters with thick armor and self-healing abilities. Breaking baddies is their thing!
• Engineers: Versatile support units, capable of healing (s)teammates, creating cover and setting up devastating combos. And: they always get to shoot twice!
• Boomers: Explosive specialists wreaking havoc with utility items. The bigger the boom, the better!
• Reapers: Deadly adversaries, granted additional shots upon enemy elimination. But be careful, their thirst for mayhem might get their frail frames into difficult situations

And the best part? Abilities unlocked through missions stick with your characters, even if they switch jobs in the future. Add to that the wide range of unique weapons and utility items and youve got a recipe for endless customisation and specialised builds.

Enemies Galore

Things are not all sunshine and roses in SteamWorld Heist II. The world is in crisis and the vast oceanic shard is filled with high-pressure threats and challenges. Prepare to face formidable adversaries each with their own unique challenges!
The diesel-driven Royal Navy commands the seas with an iron grip, controlling the precious supply of clean water with ruthless efficiency. Their defensive playstyle is bolstered by an array of formidable units, including drones, sharpshooting snipers, and sturdy turrets. Beware the charging guards, capable of breaking through just about anything, and keep a vigilant eye out for commanders who apply Edicts to empower nearby Navy units.
In the bolt-chilling north, youll encounter Rattlers! These bone-obsessed cultists roam the frigid wastes of Arctica and manically replace their metallic parts with bone. This questionable practice renders them susceptible to individual scrapping but presents a real challenge in large numbers so dont get too cocky! The seas of SteamWorld Heist II are teeming full of steambots both friendly and deadly. So gear up, lock and load, and get ready for the heist of a lifetime! We just released a new patch for SteamWorld Heist with the following improvements:

• Fixed a critical save bug that could get you permanently stuck in a dialogue after loading.
• Fixed a critical bug that prevented the game from saving any progress at all. It affected players with save data paths containing non-ascii characters.
• Game is autosaving more frequently, e.g after selling items, buying items, and after speaking with characters.
• Better save data backup support, making save files more resilient to corruption.
• Added support for more gamepads.

We hope this will provide a smoother gameplay experience for all of you! Happy gaming :)

Hopefully most of the problems you've posted in the forums will be fixed now that Wonky Business (yup, that's the official patch name) has been rolled out. Thanks for helping us! Please note that this patch won't fix any game crashes related to outdated graphics card drivers. For more info, check this thread.

Wonky Business includes:

• Fully working achievements (a few weren't unlocking correctly)
• Offline achievements
• Adjusted volume for robot voices and some sound effects
• An improved mini-map
• Various bug fixes and other improvements
