Winter Holiday Event

Happy Holidays

The holiday season is in full swing, and the Yeti won't be left behind. Earn gifts filled with goodies! Try dressing up the Yeti in clothes to better blend in with unsuspecting humans (which won't work at all) or perhaps listen to some new holiday tunes as you cruise down the slopes. Perhaps even replace that violent tree explosion sound with something new. Keep playing and keep earning. Limited to 2 drops per day with 5 minutes of play time required for each drop. Maybe with the right combination of cosmetics (and skill) more players can make it onto the expert leaderboard!

Updated expert mode to be more avalanche management oriented from the beginning so players can practice more easily. Replaced chair on chair lift with gondola. Updated background of main menu and of start of game.

We're working to improve performance on lower end systems. We still have much to learn about the right and the wrong way to do things in Godot. As we get smarter, we'll keep making things smoother. For this release, we're changing how the lighting friendly background tiles work.

Twitch Integration

Chat Decides Your Fate

Connect YetiFree to your Twitch channel and your chat will periodically get a chance to vote on modifiers to apply to your run. Some modifiers will empower the Yeti. Others... not so much.

You can enable the new Twitch integration by navigating to the Twitch button on the main menu. You will be prompted to input your Twitch channel name into the box and then press connect! If everything went well, you can test the connectivity by typing in your chat either #A or #B. To enable Twitch modifiers for a game, you can enable the new Twitch button on the difficulty select screen. During a game, your Twitch Chat will get 30 seconds to vote on one of two modifiers displayed. Chat can vote by typing either #A or #B in your chat. Once the voting time has elapsed, the winning modifier will be displayed and then applied to your game. The game modifier will then be active for 30 seconds, after which the modifier will be disabled and a new round of voting will begin.

Game Modifiers:

Yetizilla: Double the size of the Yeti.
Mini Me: Shrink the size of the Yeti in half.
AHHHHH!: Gain max rage.
Tranquilized: Cut your rage bar in half.
Power Hour: Greatly increase your speed.
Turtle Spirit: Greatly decrease your speed.
Master of Stealth: Yeti gains stealth making it harder to be detected by the Ski Patrol.
I Am Moose: Gain unlimited moose power.
Avalanche: Unleash an avalanche.
Side of Cilantro: Yeti only gains points and rage from eating trees.
Fun Police: Ski Patrol spawn more frequently.
Let It Rain: Ski Patrol throw dynamite more frequently.
Drugged Moose: Yeti is tipsy and control becomes more difficult.
Left is Right: Controls are inverted. Left to go right, Right to go left.
Bubble Boy: The Yeti now bounces off all obstacles.
Blindfolded: The game interface is hidden.

Twitch Leaderboard

Compete for the top score and time spots on the new Twitch specific leaderboards. These new leaderboards will rank you against other Twitch streamers that have played with Twitch modifiers enabled. Will your chat make it an easy climb to the top or will they make you really work for it. Only one way to find out.

1.0.1 Bug Fixes

No software is perfect. Not even our perfect software. Here's an idea of what we've tried to fix this patch.

Fixed night mode tooltip to correctly state 100,000 points are needed to unlock
Fixed game crash when retrying
Updated Godot engine in the hopes of improving performance and reducing other crashes

We also made a gameplay change:

Avalanche energy gain now has a limit per period of time. This prevents ski patrol from instantly charging up the avalanche right after spawn by multiple dynamites going off. This should make expert mode more possible (but is still very difficult). I am still hopeful someone will find a way to crack it without us having to make it easier.

Slalom Run Season Opens Soon

Have you ever attempted to run down a slalom course? Well soon you'll be able to. Careful speed management is key to a successful run. Even if you hit a few gates, at least there will be some delicious snacks along the way.
As you fully clear runs, future runs will grow longer and longer. How long of a run will you be able to complete with the threat of an avalanche looming behind you.

Night Skiing

As we are running up to the release of Yeti Free, we are working to add more terrain and variety for everyone to enjoy, and who doesn't enjoy night skiing!!! Not as many resorts offer night skiing anymore, which explains the tremendous number of skiers on our the slopes during Yeti season. Chase down prey while enjoy the cool night breeze for a refreshing new experience on the slopes.

GAMEPLAY:

Bring back the nostalgia of the 90's in this hilarious role reversal of the classic SkiFree. You now get to play as the Yeti that menaced the slopes and you are hungry! In YetiFree, you must actively eat as many skiers as you can to avoid falling back into hibernation. Smash, slam, and blast your way down the slopes to rack up the highest score. The pesky ski patrol and a few accidental avalanches might try to slow you down, but the Yeti must feed! OM NOM NOM NOM... BURP!
