Year Unknown is a finalist for Best Student Game at the 2025 Independent Games Festival Awards! Watch the award ceremony this Wednesday 3/19 at 6:30 PT: https://www.twitch.tv/gdc In other news, a new update is available, making the game playable on more systems:

  • Upgraded engine to Godot 4.4
    • The game is now playable on older systems that don't support Vulkan. Some effects are changed or disabled.
    • This may or may not solve some stuttering issues in the second area.
  • Added invert y option for keyboard+mouse
  • Fixed missing controller icons on menu when no controller is connected
  • Simplified collisions in the final area
  • Drastically reduced the size of the main menu lightmap. This should improve the time it takes to start up the game.

Year Unknown is a narrative driven game about the very far future.

You wake up in an unfamiliar world, seemingly void of human life.

Who are you? What is your purpose here?



To learn, you must find terminals connected to The Library - a vast data store containing all of humanity's knowledge.

However, the data is far too dense to understand on your own. You need the help of an Interface AI.

They're made to find the truth, but be wary of their interpretations.
