Misgiven nominated for the DCP Young Talent Award: Best Prototype!

Today we at Symmetry Break Studio are incredibly happy to be able to share with you that Misgiven has been nominated as one of 5 Germany-wide titles for the Young Talent Award: Best Prototype at the German Computer Game Awards (DCP) 2024, securing at least the 25K EUR nomination prize

We quote here the touching review from the DCP jury for Misgiven, translated from the German version:

"Multiple-choice conversations appear in countless computer games. But very often the innovations end with the layout of the ready-made answers; instead of having a conversation, we traverse a tree diagram. In this way, we do not do justice to the feeling of really talking to other people.

Misgiven captures the insecurities and inhibitions in a conversation situation with an uncertain outcome with a brilliant idea: The protagonist of the graphic adventure sees more and less courageous answer options. Which of these she chooses depends on how relaxed and open she is feeling at the time. Unfortunately, she quickly stumbles into a tense negotiation situation under a false identity. Every sentence becomes a challenge. The innovation lies in a familiar genre - a graphic adventure game.

The mix of new ideas and tried and tested controls is convincing. The game captivates us with its gripping atmosphere and all-round professional presentation. The story elegantly transports current topics such as empathy, freedom, inequality, oppression and environmental destruction into a science fiction setting. Never have we looked forward to a toxic particulate matter tsunami as much as we do here."

Many thanks to the jury for this honor! We're hoping you'll keep your fingers crossed for us on 18th April at the award ceremony in Munich for the chance to win 1st prize and 50.000 EUR! And, of course, keep an eye out for the next steps in Misgiven's unyielding journey.

End of Year Update!

Hey everyone, just wanted to give you all an update if you've been wondering what we at Symmetry Break Studio have been up to.

Many of you may not have seen anything new about Misgiven ever since we showed the game at gamescom 2023. We want to let you know we're still hard at work, albeit a bit slower, as we hunt for a publisher and further funding for the game. Even though this introduces some delays in our development schedule, we're gearing up to come back in full force in 2024.

2023 was a very exciting year for Misgiven, all caused by your interest and support, whether you spoke or wrote about the game, hosted it at events, came up to us to talk about it, playtested it, offered feedback or wishlisted it. All these things were incredibly helpful and tremendously encouraging!

If you're keen on revisiting the excitement of gamescom in August 2023, here's a couple ways to do it:

November saw Misgiven in the spotlight at the PLAY! Festival in Hamburg. If you missed it, you can catch a glimpse of the event through this Twitch livestream snippet, where our producer, Anca, talks about the game and answers a few questions.

In December, Misgiven was one of the 3 nominees for the Ubisoft Newcomer Award at the German Developer Award in Cologne. While we didn't win, we are so proud of having made it this far!

For the time being, we will be sporadic with posts here bar major updates, but in the meantime there is an active Discord community that we regularly engage with. You are more than welcome to join us on Discord to discuss the game and talk to the team in a more personal setting.

Thank you so much for your support in 2023 and stay tuned for what's coming.
We wish you wonderful winter holidays and a fabulous new year!
