Hello everyone!
Today, we're at the end of the end of this update, and basically, we just have animations and translations to finish before we can give you the update for episode 2.
To prepare for the implementation of episode 3, we've made some purchases, and there are still others to be made:
We bought a UPS to protect our devices and a NAS to work on our data over the network. A new monitor and additional RAM (64GB instead of 32) for our main machine.
Now that we have all this... We thought it would be best to buy a second machine to do the rendering in a chain.
Indeed, we are currently doing the renders "on the fly"... That means we follow the script and place the image... press render and wait, without being able to use the computer, until the image is finished... then move on to the next one....
With images like ours, this takes between 20 minutes and 1h30 per image! Time during which we cannot use the computer. With the NAS we took, we thought about a new organization to go MUCH faster:
We prepare the images with our main computer, send the ready file to the NAS in a render queue file, the second computer retrieves this queue file and performs the images in sequence. This allows us to free up computer 1 from this task and especially not to have any waiting time during the image rendering! Since if we get ahead we just add to the queue, and otherwise we have two computers to do animations or other etc...
So for episode 3, we're going to try to work like this once the second machine is purchased, which should drastically reduce the episode development time, also giving us more time to work on important things that players have asked for, like the minimap etc...
I'll keep you posted as soon as we receive the equipment and in the meantime, I'm going back to finish my end of episode animations (and sexy time :) ). See you soon!
