Racing Tanks 1.2 || Power Ups and UI Improvements

Hi everyone, this is an unplanned update, here are the details and the reason why:



    [h3]Changes and fixes:[/h3]
  • Added the Power Ups mechanic. If enabled, Wooden Boxes will spawn in the map with different icons, each representing a different power up.

  • Laser: You'll be equipped with a laser. When equipped, you'll shoot a laser that can go through all obstacles, causing small but really fast damage.

  • Bombs: A random amount of bombs will appear randomly across the map.

  • Speed: You'll gain a speed bonus for 5 seconds.

  • Metal Walls: Random wooden walls around the map will be replaced with their metal counterpart. These walls can not be broken with bombs.

  • Shield: You'll be invulnerable to any kind of attacks for 5 seconds.

  • Instant healing: You'll regain all of your HP, even if normal healing is disabled. Handy!

  • Land mines: A random amount of land mines will appear randomly across the map. These mines will activate after 3 seconds, after that, any kind of movement or violent shaking will trigger them, exploding and damaging everything around them.

  • Bullet bomb: Your next bullet will be a small bomb. It'll explode upon impact. Handy for breaking walls faster.

  • Lock: The goal will be locked for a certain amount of time. During this time, you won't be able to win by reaching the goal.

  • Random: A random amount of the Power Ups of the above will be chosen. The most chaotic of all.


  • Changed the graphical assets and layout of the Main Menu to a simpler one. Icons representing the actions of the button were added to remove the big buttons.
  • Tweaked some aspects of the AI to make it slightly more advanced with the navigation, along with special behaviour with some power ups.
  • Fixed minor visual bugs.


[h3]The reason why:[/h3]
As some of you may know, Unity changed some of its billing services, and even though we are not affected by those changes, we're not comfortable with the decisions taken and the direction of the engine. Skyty is sad.
From now on, the unity (and current) version of the game will be referred to as the Legacy version of Racing Tanks, or Racing Tanks Legacy. This version will not receive any feature updates. It will only be maintained for bug fixes, as the game will be ported completely to the Godot Engine, which will be implementing a single-player arcade/challenges mode. The arcade mode along with the changes mentioned above were planned to be launched in a future 2.0 update, however, due to the changes in Unity, we decided to launch the Power Ups along with the visual improvements now, as the porting will take a long time, and we don't want to leave our small player base waiting for a long time.

Racing Tanks 1.1

This is a small update, which focus in fixing some small bugs and adjusting some mechanics:


  • Fixed a bug in which when starting the game for the first time, you get shown a blank screen instead of the controls screen.
  • Adjusted some mechanics in the Race Game Mode, so now the gameplay is more fair by always placing the goal in the centre of the map and the players on the side of it, instead of the completely random system used before, which used to be really unfair by placing one of the players next to the goal while the other player was in the next side of the map or trapped.
  • Fixed smaller bugs
