Thanks to player suggestions, this update introduces a small but meaningful change that improves the gameplay experience for everyone.
Each encounter card has an icon in the top left corner that indicates what happens if scouting that encounter fails. Either there is no negative consequence, or the encounter card becomes inaccessible at that location, or, it might happen that the encounter automatically activates, which can be dangerous.
Until now, these icons were only visible for encounters that have already been scouted. But with this update, these icons are always visible:
So, it's no longer a gamble to decide if there is a serious risk to scouting, or the worst that can happen is that you don't get more Clues or maybe miss out on an extra encounter option. However, if you already have a revealed encounter that looks acceptable, and you are facing an unscouted encounter that is probably hard to scout and is indicated to be dangerous, you might just keep playing it safe.

- Multiple types of word puzzles and word duels, forged into a coherent game system
- Duel opponents that also compose words from the same pool of letters as you
- Words that can literally hurt or mend
- Mini-adventures in space-time and in the afterworld
- Collection and crafting of items and upgrades, as well as optional theft and trade of poignant curios
- Dynamic, often dramatic or humorous story, yet it’s always meaningful and personal
- A typical adventure can be completed in 30–200 minutes, depending on the complexity level of your choice. Just like a game of chess, Words of Yendor offers endless replayability, providing unique and thrilling adventures each time you play.
- Your progress is automatically saved, allowing you to contemplate the challenges for as long as you like. The game remains unaffected by the passage of real time.
- Note that embracing the spirit of roguelikes, this is also a “permadeath” game, so if your hero falls, the game is over. However, if you enter the same adventure seed number, you can replay any adventure as many times as you want.
