Update Notes for v0.95

  • Added a new built-in car, Speedy, with a high top speed but low acceleration
  • Added 7 new vehicle models to be used in user-made vehicles, also cosmetic fixes and tuning to the existing ones
  • Added new special settings to force the same camera for all and to potentially hide the player markers (to support hide game modes)
  • Vehicle collision settings (steadiness, stability and avoidance) are now automatically set based on vehicle properties (can still be overridden)
  • Added a WaterLevel object that can be used to animate the water level (not a realistic effect if vast areas are filled)
  • Levels: Increased the max animation keyframe count to 10 and doubled the max Stay and Move times to two minutes
  • Missiles: Added Friendly Fire percentage parameter - 0 means no damage from frindly fire, 100 means the same as to enemies, default: 25
  • Missiles: Increased max reload time, also added a setting to optionally shorten the initial wait, also shorter delay if nothing hit
  • Added a demo recording of a race with crazy no-damage high-impact missiles
  • Clients now have a button to switch between being spectators and not without reconnecting (if there are enough player/spectator slots)
  • Added command /spectator to see spectators or to change spectator state (admin having control over everyone), also slightly changed /who
  • Spectators no longer have a Ready button at event init (it didn't do anything previously anyway)
  • Timer: It is now possible to disable starting an event automatically when everyone is ready - useful for spectator hosts
  • Drafting is no longer on in ghost races unless specifically enabled in Drafting Settings
  • Soccer: Goal is now scored and reset performed if all opponents are disabled (unless turned off in Soccer Settings)
  • Damage can now affect downforce, too - laps affected by damage effects are not eligible for leaderboards
  • Levels: Added a new colorable Light Wood texture material
  • Level Editor: Fixed saving level previews and sharing levels if Hide Full Paths setting was enabled
  • Miscellaneous other minor fixes and improvements

Turbo Sliders Unlimited is a spiritual successor of many classic top-down racing games, but in 3D and with modern online features and extensive customization and modding possibilities. It goes far beyond being just a racing game - it is a community driven platform where anyone can create their own levels, vehicles and game modes. It can be played as a serious esports game or as a fun casual game. It can be played alone, as online multiplayer or as local multiplayer.

The game is already fully playable with most main features implemented, but many new features are still to be added and old ones polished. Feel free to join the Discord server to stay up to date with the news and affect development by communicating with the developers!

Main features:

Online multiplayer

  • Supports up to 20 players (and spectators)
  • Based on authoritative server and client side prediction (good for esports)
  • Anyone can host their own public or private servers and decide levels, vehicles and rules there
  • Support for dedicated servers and server-side scripting

Local multiplayer

  • Couch gaming with up to 4 local players in split-screen
  • Possible to join online MP games together, too

Camera

  • Multiple camera presets, all of which can be extensively tuned
  • Camera modes include 3rd person (close or far), 1st person, top-down, fixed position, free camera

Level and vehicle creation and sharing

  • Feature rich in-game level editor and vehicle editor included
  • Sharing via Steam Workshop or by automatic downloading in online games

Recording games

  • Any game can be recorded and watched later from possibly different camera angles and with different playback speeds

Customization

  • Vehicle looks can be customized by changing color, paint jobs and paint properties (metallicness, smoothness)
  • Possible to buy customization packs unlocking new colors, paint textures, more paint commands per a paint job, and more range for paint properties

Hotlapping and Leaderboards

  • Possible to play alone and try to beat leaderboard times, optionally against ghost recordings
  • Local leaderboards for all levels and vehicles
  • Global leaderboards for built-in levels and vehicles - and for selected user generated ones

Special game modes

In addition to normal racing and its variations, there is support for various other game modes, including:
  • Parkour / platforming
  • Ghost races
  • Car sumo
  • Capture the Flag
  • Base infiltration
  • Battle with weapons (team vs team or all vs. all)
  • Tag game (either spread or transfer tag)
  • Car soccer with 1 or up to 5 balls
  • Car "soccer" without balls (score by driving to goal)
  • Collector (either shared or exclusive coins to collect)
  • Racing with deadly terrain or contacts
  • Racing with drafting on (tunable strength)
  • Racing with weapons enabled
  • Racing with fuel (refueling possible in the pit)
  • Racing with tire wear (changing tires possible in the pit)
  • Team games - all game modes have team game support

Single player campaign

  • There is a simple time trial campaign where you can unlock new events by completing events under certain times
  • Campaign(s) against AI players is planned to come later
  • Another possible future feature could be allowing players to create and share their own campaigns (with their own tracks, levels and AI)
