Hi All, Thank you for your continuous support for Brocula. The game is improving every day, and I'm excited to share some new updates that I've added for the first time with myself in mind. Let's dive into these changes.
Difficulty Level
While Brocula has many cozy elements, I wanted to introduce some challenges. Therefore, I'm adding difficulty levels to the settings. Having played this game for a few years, I can quickly make coffee items and often find myself waiting for 15-30 seconds at the coffee shop, as well as in the garage and restaurant. The new difficulty levels address this wait time. By default, the difficulty level is set to EASY, so if you're enjoying the current settings, nothing will change for you. However, if you'd like a more challenging experience:
- MEDIUM: Customer wait time decreases by 1/3, and the number of customers doubles.
- HARD: Customer wait time decreases by 2/3, and the number of customers triples.
Weather System
I'm also implementing a weather system, starting with Rain mode, as we're approaching monsoon season here in India. Every few days in the game, you'll now experience rainfall throughout the city. You can control the rain volume in the settings menu to suit your preferences.
Minor Bug Fixes
Regular bug fixes include: 1. Fixed a translation issue in the library where a character was missing translations. 2. Fixed a bug with the farmer not accepting box deliveries after playing for more than 5 hours continuously. I hope these updates enhance your gaming experience. First of all thank you to some amazing people who were kind enough to jump on discord and talk to me about the bugs and give out valuable suggestions. This patch is primarily to fix some minor issues and add 1-2 new features. Here is the detailed list of things are in this new patch/version of the game:
- Fixed a bug where in all stores where when you press up or down more times than there are items, the other items all move to the right.
- Increased the space between the fence and the constructed items outside the castle.
- Fixed a bug where you have to go out of the collider zone to collect mud again.
- Items now have a white outline to tell the player what is selected for better visual indication
- You can now delete a placed object.
- Fixed zero items in player inventory.
- Adding Discord QR code for easy access to the community
- Fixed a bug in the trunk where last item from player inventory would not update the view.
- Fixed consumption quantity in Church Table deposit where Bread and Juice were being consumed more that required.
- Player created trunks can now use be opened with single key press instead of Hold.
- Fixed translation issue for Library buy shop
- Players now have the ability to create trunks in the mines.
- Fixed a bug where player crafted trunk would lose item information.
- Fixed Inventory item mismatch on pause screen issue. This issue refers to the part where when a player looks at their inventory and they see the next item from the list.
Hi All, thank you for all the feedback in making the game better. Here are some of the things that are going out in this patch. - Fixed a bug with bus stop where if player tries to from Mines to Greys farm, going back to the city breaks. - Reduced cooking timing of items in the restaurant by 100%. That means all items cook twice as fast from the last build. - Updated colliders in restaurant where players can open both fridge and vegetable container at the same time. - Updated timing for Garage customers. They now wait twice the original time making it easier for players to get 5 star rating. - Adding a 10 second timer to sleeping mechanics which will force the player out incase it falls into infinite sleep issue. - Fixed infinite sleep bug where players slept either for more than 2 days or forever.
- Updated Coffee shop infinite transfers. Now it doesnt let players transfer infinite coffee cans to player inventory
- Fixed performance and frame rate drops on closing Pause Screen
- Added Bird Flapping sound controls in the Settings menu. You can now control the volume of Bird flapping.
- Fixed a bug where Cinematic Trailer would blank out on Steam deck.
- Key Remapping (This feature is still buggy and I cant push it live)
- Ability to move placement items (some people want to move things around for better reachability, so i would like to work on it in the coming days)
- An easy and hard mode where player can decide how long customers can wait.
Woah , so many negative reviews. I wont lie that It does sting a little bit, but tbh it was totally my fault for not testing the game thoroughly. And I am gonna make up for it. I have been listening to your feedback for past few days and been making changes accordingly. I am updating the game with following changes as per the feedback. -
- - More time in a Day. Day-Night cycle has been changed from 10 min cycle to 15 min cycle.
- - NPCs now reach their day destination faster, especially when the player is asleep.
- - Fixed an issue where NPC dont even get out of their homes if save time is close to start of the day.
- - Ability to get out of soft locks. A few people notified that they were stuck with crafting menu while running. You can now close this menu with the back button.
- - Fixed a bug where street and building lights do not work as intended.
- - Overall stamina consumption time is reduced to 1.5 seconds from 1 second.
- - Placing a new object outside the castle is more fluid now.
- - Fixed a bug where Writing table was generating blue diamonds outside of interaction zone.
- - Everchanging forest exit is now fixed. Also reduced the complexity of the forest for better gameplay.
- - Trunk now has information about the selected item, space per item, and whether it can be used to increase stamina and health
- - Inventory now has information about space required per item.
- - You dont need to hold in Garage anymore to get items
- - No more pressing hold to chop down trees, break rocks, pickup stones, mud, berries or mushrooms.
- - No more hold for trunk transfers anymore ()
- - No more hold for Dumpster either.
- - No more hold button for sleeping either. PEOPLE SAID NO MORE HOLDS!!!
- - Adding back mouse cursor.
- - Increased Health of Fishing Rod so that it can be used for more number of times.
- - Updated Fishing Mechanics for easy fishing.
- - Increased Bird attack timeout on crops from 400 seconds to 1800 seconds, no more bat complaining about crops getting destroyed.

Destroyer Doggo at ID@Xbox Digital Sessions
On March 26, 2024, I (Prateek Jadhwani) had an opportunity to talk about Brocula at the ID@Xbox Digital Sessions organised by XBox. This event was hosted by Jun Shen Chia, from the Xbox Global Expansion Team to show their support for independent developers and their upcoming games who are a part of ID@Xbox program.
And because of this event, there were also a lot of news articles. IGN India was kind enough to give their article about this event along with the official XBox Wire article.
Demo Updates
After months of delay, and feedback, I have now updated the demo to version 1.5.0.x. There are a few changes in this update. One of the major updates is the performance. As you might have seen from my earlier posts, I wanted the game to run smoothly on older computers as well. And now it can do that. It even runs smoothly on steam deck, which was earlier an issue. If you are someone who is interested in the game, but dont want to buy it yet, feel free to give this version of demo a try again.
Xbox Certification
After months of porting efforts, I am happy to announce that the most recent build of Brocula passed XBox certification guidelines. This was a major hurdle that I needed to clear in order to launch the game on XBox. With this certification, the demo build is also available on XBox. Release Dates
Finally, the section you all have been waiting for. After a lot of thinking and testing, I have decided that the release date of this game should be as follows: 1. XBox: 7th May 2. Steam: 9th May This date is not too close for me to not fix any last minute bugs and not too far that we all forget about the release. If you are an influencer or from the Press, please feel free to request a review copy on KeyMailer for your favourite platform (XBox or Steam). Hi All, Hope you all are having a wonderful march. Just wanted to write this post to let folks know about this months updates on the game. So, here it goes.
Broken Laptop
Few weeks ago I had a power surge at my place which made my laptop stop working. I had to order a cable for its component which is not available in India to get it repaired. I received the cable yesterday, but that was not the correct one. International shipping returns are more expensive than the actual product, so I ended up buying a new laptop. I have been setting up this new laptop all day long today for dev work. I should be be able to start working on XBox, Windows and Steam Deck builds again this week. Once I have everything setup, I will update the release date on the store page.
Performance Updates
I have been using my M1 mac Air for mac development. And there have been some good performance improvements in the past few weeks. This was from 2 weeks ago. (Consistent 150FPS)

Why do these performance improvements matter?
Simple reason being not every one has a gaming laptop. I want the game to be able to run on older computers as well. I would love to see these performance gains on my Steam deck (which I will be testing in the coming days). ----------------------------- I hope this helps with understanding where the project is. Hi Folks,
Thank you all who reached out to me on private chat regarding the update on the laptop situation. I have finally received a temporary use laptop for windows testing and OBS streaming on the Brocula page. So you should be able to see the live broadcast on the store page. This is a slow laptop, so not suited for any dev work. My personal (development) laptop is still broken. The missing part is a 40pin 300Hz cable that is not available here in India. I have ordered it and it should be here by March 15th. Rest of the parts are already here.
I should be able to work on my Macbook in the meantime and fix a few bugs. I will keep you guys posted on the situation along with new never seen gifs from the game like the one above.

Hey all, I hope you all are having a wonderful March. I personally have never been so busy. With Sonys Develop India event last week to fixing bugs and testing for the release, it has been really busy.
Sad News
There have not been any live broadcast on the steam store page in the past 2 days. This is because there was a power surge at my place and my windows machine is busted. I use this device for developing Brocula for Windows, Steam Deck and XBox.
I am not sure how long this fix will take. My computer repair guy says it might take a few days. He will need to get a few parts from other city which adds up to the repair time. This is going to delay the game and the demo updates that I promised in the discord group. So for now I am removing the release dates from the store page. I am trying to get a temporary laptop for now to at lease restart the live broadcast of gameplay. But I will let everyone know when my laptop is back in working condition.

Brocula just surpassed 17k in Wishlists. Just a few months ago this number was 8k. This is just crazy. Thank you all so much for supporting the game.

I know I have been MIA trying to finish the game. And I have a good news today. This morning I submitted the game for review and certification on Steam. Once that is approved, it will make the release process easier. While this review process is happening, I will continue to playtest the game and fix bugs.
Regarding the XBox build, porting process is complete, which helps me test the game on the dev kit without any major bugs/issues.

Today is a special day for me. As a developer, being able to finish the playthrough your own game is like its own achievement. For a few days now, I have been speed running the game on the hopes to finish it as fast as possible. And here are the results from that.
Gameplay time: 40.7 hours
Achievements: 75/98

Satisfaction of Grinding: 98/100
Most notable achievement (An achievement that I personally felt satisfied after getting): Served 500 Customers

Destroyer Doggo
Last year, Brocula was lucky enough to receive a grant from XBox under the Developer Acceleration Program. This grant has help me as a developer to quit my day job and start my own game dev studio under the name Destroyer Doggo. I can finally remove my personal name from the Developer and Publisher section and replace it with Destroyer Doggo.

12K Wishlists
Brocula recently participated in Capitalism and Economy Fest. Steam was kind enough to help the game with its wishlists, and we have now 12k+ in wishlists. For a small indie game, wishlists matter a lot in determining its success. And you guys made it happen. I would like to thank you all for this achievement.
Demo Updates
I have been listening to your feedback. A lot of people have told me how the farming mechanics are a little janky. I am updating the farming mechanics to be more responsive. I am hoping people will like it now. Church is also an important part of the core gameplay loop. Updating the amount of people helps the player get more Blood of Faith for other purposes. And I have added a new probability calculation that will help player get more blood out of people. These updates will be pushed out to people in the coming days. Your feedback matters alot to me. XBox Porting Update
Few days ago I posted video of Brocula running on the XBox Dev Kit. This was the first build to ever run on the Xbox. While I do need to test it more, it is still progress. I received a lot of help from Akshat, from the Indian Gamedev Community, to help me understand the porting process.

As a solo dev, sometimes testing can take a lot of time., especially if the game takes more than 40 hours to complete. Yesterday I found a few game breaking bugs towards the later part of the game. This means One of the NPCs not working as expected, and achievement system being broken. Fixing and testing those bugs will take me 1-2 weeks, which will make me miss the certification date (this is a part of the Steam process).
Missing the release date for Steam will also push the game closer to the Xbox release date, which is why I am now planning to release both on Xbox and Steam, which should be around End of Feb or Early March. For some people, this news is going to be disappointing. I understand that. A lot of people make their schedule around release of a game, including me. I would like to apologize for the delay. But I would like to give this community a good game in working condition than a broken game.
As for the new release date, I will be updating this community in the coming days.

Thank you all who suggested improvements to the demo. These suggestions not just help the demo but also trickle down to the base game. Some of the changes coming to Demo 1.3 are as follows
- Coffee shop tutorial now tells the player to deposit with the help of a marker, thus removing the guess work.
- Bats now tell the player when they have finished the demo, this tells the player that they are free to roam around or work again at the coffee shop, thus removing confusion.

It is not even second week, and I am already writing my third post of this year. As you might have guessed from the title of this post, I am updating the demo to a newer version, that means bug fixes!!! So without wasting any more time, lets get on to the major change in this version.
Spanish Localisation
To be honest, Spanish localisation was not part of my initial release. I wanted to wait for a few months, see if there was anyone who was interested in the Spanish version. But thankfully Javier Argeso reached out to me and was kind enough to offer his services of Spanish translations for the game. Because of him and his fast translations, we will now be able to play Brocula in Spanish as well. If you are one of those cool people, who like to play games in Spanish, please feel free to thank him. And if you a game developer or a studio looking for Spanish translations, you can always hire Javier.

First of all Happy New Year!!! I hope you all are having amazing start of the year.
This is going to be a short announcement. Brocula has been invited to be a part of Capitalism and Economy Fest starting on 8th Jan and ending on 15th Jan.
If you still haven't had a chance to play the demo, this would be the perfect time to do so. And if you have already played the demo, and would like to provide some feedback, I would love to hear it.
Before I end this announcement, I would like to personally thank all the people who have covered the game in their Youtube Videos and/or Blogs. Thank you so much for the support! As a solo indie dev who has been working on this game for 4+ years, this makes me really happy.

Over the past week I have seen a few streamers and Youtubers play the demo version of the game. First of all, thank you so much for the love and support. I am glad you have shown interest in this game. It also looks like there have been a few bugs. And I would like to apologise for those bugs. I have no excuses for this tbh. I am pushing a new build for Windows, Mac and Steam Deck for those bug fixes. I cant promise if this will be the end of bugs, but I am gonna try my best to catch more of them from now on. In the past month, alot of people have played the game. Whether these people have played the full version of the game (only available to playtesters) or the demo version (available to all), I have received valuable feedback from both the groups. The reason I am making this post is because I am now moving these changes from the the main game to demo version of the game. That means alot of things that have been in the close to release version of the game will now also be a part of demo build as well.
Here are the full list of things that are coming to the demo version 1.0
- Added Night Light to Brocula
- Fixed frame rate crashing bug on inventory full
- Updated Key Colours for better accessibility
- Updated volume of certain UI interactions
- Added new images for Achievements
- Added Brazilian Portuguese And Japanese Translations to the demo
- Updated Credits to be more visible
- Logs and other heavy objects will now be carried by the bats
You will also see a new logo as a part of the splash screen. I will make an official announcement for that in the coming days.

I just love it when the game starts getting traction from one of my fav countries. And hence the reason for this update. Here is the list of updates in Demo 0.4v
- Game now supports Korean along with English, Simplified Chinese, and Russian.
- A soft lock bug in the coffee shop
- Adding a separate fire wood menu for cooking for better visibility
- Minor performance fixes.

Over the past one month, I have seen a lot of people play Brocula's demo. And this update is for them. Thank You for all the feedback at IGDC, Discord Playtests, and Youtube videos. Your feedback has helped me with fixing a lot of bugs and making the demo even better.
Here are some of the changes in the demo that will help it make a better experience.
- Added Waypoints for better navigation in the town
- Added controller prompt to tell the player how to run and use map
- Converted tasks into a much more linear gameplay
- Coffee shop tutorials now tell the player where to go, and added ability to skip steps if the player is familiar with the gameplay
- Bug fixes for colliders, now player doesnt have to go back and forth to activate crafting menu
- Fixed a soft lock that used to happen when player is triggering crafting menu while running
- New transfer menu for better readability
- Improvements in fishing.
- Players can now throw chicken into the pond. ()

Today is a really good day. The project that I have been working on for the past three years is not only close to release, but also completed an important milestone, 7000 Wishlists!!. That is all for now. I am going back to polishing the game!!!

You can lose a lot of hours in the game, and grinding mechanics are addictive. The game now supports a chicken farm which can be unlocked by talking to the butcher! The chicken farm gives you a constant supply of eggs which can be used to earn more money.
