Drill Keeper is a unique mix of roguelite deckbuilding and tower defense, in which you strip completely destructible worlds of their riches to ensure your survival. Combine cards, artefacts and runes to create an indestructible mining expedition and defend it against the Swarm.
Your drilling activities cause massive underground tremors. These lure increasingly powerful creatures out of their nests. Use your pickaxe to carve mazes into the stone and influence the path of the Swarm. Build sophisticated defenses around these paths to ensure the survival of your expedition.

Dig through the darkness with your pickaxe. Every world hides valuable treasures in it's bowels that can aid you in your survival. But be careful that you don't dig too deep and wake up slumbering dangers!

Sooner or later, every expedition is swallowed up by the abyss. However, the resources you have collected and the missions you have completed will not perish with your expedition. Instead, you can use the accomplishments from previous expeditions to upgrade your drill and unlock new cards for future expeditions.
- Unique Gameplay: Drill Keeper offers a unique blend of deckbuilding, tower defense and base building elements in a single game. Explore fully destructible worlds, gather ressources, and play cards to build smart defenses.
- Dynamic Deckbuilding: Unlock new cards to customize your starting deck to match your strategy before a run. Find more cards during a run and choose wisely which ones to add to your deck.
- Replayability: Each world is procedurally generated and offers unique challenges. Customize your tactics with unlockable runes and cards to be ready for the challenges of Chaos Mode!
Hello everyone,\n\nSorry for the long radio silence! Im Denno, the solo developer behind Drill Keeper, and I wanted to share a long-overdue update to assure you that, despite the quiet, development is alive and well. I want to be transparent about the current timeline: Drill Keeper is now planned for release in 2026.It wasnt an easy decision, but its the right one to ensure the game reaches the quality and depth it deserves.\n\n
Why the Delay?

When I started Drill Keeper back in 2021, it began as a small experiment, a way to explore a few ideas around digging mechanics and card-systems. But as development went on, those ideas kept growing into something far larger and more ambitious than I first imagined.\n\nOver time, it became clear that the core systems, from the mining mechanics to world generation and progression, needed to be deeper and more dynamic to truly deliver the experience I wanted. That meant rebuilding and refining a lot of what was already there, which naturally takes time. I learned that many features and systems that seem simple on paper often turn out to be far more complex in practice, requiring more iteration and refinement.\n\nOn top of that, were redoing a large portion of the games art. The goal is to give Drill Keeper a stronger, more cohesive visual identity that really brings its atmosphere to life. The new artwork adds far more personality and polish, but it also means revisiting and reworking many assets and interfaces from scratch.\n\nAll of this is a big undertaking for a mostly solo-developed game, but I genuinely believe its worth the extra time. Rather than rush something unfinished, Id rather take the time to make Drill Keeper into the game it deserves to be.\n\nA Few Helping Hands

While Drill Keeper remains very much a solo-developed project, Im incredibly fortunate to have some talented and passionate people helping me bring this vision to life.\n\nIm now collaborating with a wonderfully skilled artist, whos been helping to refine the games visuals and atmosphere, adding that extra layer of polish and personality. Alongside them, a composer has joined in to craft immersive music that perfectly capture the tone and mood of the underground depths.\n\nIn addition, Im grateful to have the ongoing support of my publisher, Hooded Horse, whos assisting on all fronts (e.g., localization, communication, marketing, outreach, gameplay feedback etc.). Their help allows me to stay focused on development while ensuring Drill Keeper reaches as many players as possible when the time comes.\n\nAll of this combined support has brought new energy and structure to the project, and Im excited about whats ahead.\n\nWhats Next

Looking ahead, the plan is to release apublic demo in 2026, a focused vertical slice that lets everyone experience the core of Drill Keeper firsthand. Theofficial Discord serverwill launch alongside the demo to gather feedback and connect with the community more directly. Early Access is planned for later that same year.\n\nA Personal Update

Outside of game development, Im currently waiting for a very special launch of my own. Any day now, Ill be welcoming a tiny new co-op partner into the world and becoming a father! Im thrilled (+ slightly terrified), and Im hoping the little one rolls some decent stats (good sleep attributes would be nice) right out of the gate.\n\nIts a huge and exciting change, and while itll bring some new challenges to balance alongside development but I couldnt be happier. Between sleepless nights and baby side quests, Ill still be hard at work drilling away whenever possible.\n\nThank You

Thank you all so much for your patience, interest, and ongoing support. It means a great deal to me, and its what keeps me motivated through the long hours of development. I cant wait to share more with you as the project continues to evolve.\n\nThats all for now. Time to head back to the mines.\n\nDrill safe, and until next time,\nDennoHello Dirt Dwellers!

Hello Dirt Dwellers,
After more than 3 years of working solo on Drill Keeper, Im thrilled to announce that Ive drilled into a partnership with Hooded Horse, my new publisher! Theyre renowned for their dedication to quality and great catalog of deep and system-driven strategy games (e.g., like Manor Lords, Against the Storm or Terra Invicta).
Importantly, this collaboration wont change the creative direction of the game its about making Drill Keeper the best game it can be. With Hooded Horse's support, I have the opportunity to develop the game without compromising its unique identity or rush the development while also learning from their vast experience. Rest assured, I truly couldnt think of a better partner than Hooded Horse to come along for this ride.
In light of this collaboration, Ive decided to extend the development timeline to 2025. This additional time will help me refine the game, mine out any lingering bugs, add exciting new features, and polish every facet to diamond-like brilliance. I know this might be disappointing for some of you who have been eagerly waiting, but this extra time will allow me to make the game better than I ever anticipated.
Thank you so much for sticking with me on this journey. Your support has kept me drilling forward, and I cant wait to show you whats coming next year.
Drill safe,
Denno / ShoulderByte
