ASURAJANG Dev Notes - May 19, 2025

Hello Everyone. This is Sangjin Kim, the Director of ASURAJANG. Welcome to the second edition of the ASURAJANG Dev Notes! Today, I would like to share some major changes that will be coming to ASURAJANG, including the reasons behind these changes, our current development status, future plans, and publisher changes.

First, starting with the maintenance on May 30th, we plan to temporarily remove the [Battle Royale - Solos Mode].

Currently, ASURAJANG's maximum concurrent users (MCU) are around 200400. This is below the minimum number required to maintain a PVP game, especially a Battle Royale game that requires a large number of players. In this situation, maintaining two Battle Royale modes simultaneously causes extremely long matchmaking times. As a result, players have to wait too long to play a single game, which ultimately drives them away from the game. What is even more critical is that new users who join the game become frustrated by the long matchmaking times or fail to experience games at their skill level, leading them to leave the game without being able to settle in. Additionally, various issues have arisen in the Battle Royale Solos Mode and are expected to continue to arise in the future. Teaming behavior has become an issue amongst high-ranking users in Solos Mode matches, causing significant disruptions, and it continues to happen under the radar even now. Furthermore, certain users are persistently targeting streamers for harassment through stream sniping behavior (we plan to take strict action against such behavior upon detection in the future). Recently, harassment using the games groggy system has also been witnessed. While these issues can be largely attributed to design flaws, we believe that they occurred due to inherent issues with the Solos Mode. We have done our best to address these issues, but we have concluded that it will be difficult to improve the Solos Mode to a level that satisfies our users. In particular, while developing the Arena Mode and improving the issues of Battle Royale Solos, we realized that balancing the Trios Mode alongside these changes was an extremely challenging task. For the future of ASURAJANG, we have decided that temporarily closing the Solos Mode, which continues to face ongoing issues, and focusing on the Arena Mode is the best course of action. In the future, once the Arena Mode is well-established and there is a sufficient player base, we will consider reopening the Battle Royale Solos Mode. This was a difficult decision for us to make, but we have made it after careful consideration for the sake of maintaining ASURAJANG. We kindly ask for your understanding and patience. The Rankings for Battle Royale Solos Mode will be determined by matches that take place before the maintenance on May 30th, and Rank Rewards will be distributed based on the rankings at that time when Season 0 ends.

Next, we would like to share details about the new features that will be added to Trios Mode.

We aim to enhance the fun of Trios Mode and provide a more collaborative experience with others through various new features.
  • The [Party Fill] feature will be added. The Party Fill feature allows you to decide whether you wish to fill your party with up to two additional random players in Trios Mode or not. If you choose not to use Party Fill, you will enter Trios Mode with only your current party members. This means you can enter Trios Mode by yourself, and in this case, rewards will significantly increase, offering a high-risk, high-reward hardcore playstyle. Of course, you can also enjoy Trios Mode with just two party members as a Duo, and the rewards will be increased as well.
  • [Party Chat] feature will be added. We are aware that proper teamwork is difficult with only a simple ping system as the only means of communication between party members. Adding in-game chat can be a double-edged sword, so we carefully considered its implementation, but ultimately decided to introduce it based on the judgment that the essence of an online game is communication with others.
  • A feature [Preventing Members of Pre-made Parties from Picking the Same Character]will be added. While selecting the same character in a pre-made party may not always result in an advantageous outcome, it can eliminate strategic options and lead to the selection of overpowered characters by multiple members of the same party, so we have decided to prohibit members of pre-made parties from selecting the same character. We also aim to prevent the characters from overlapping in random matchmaking as much as possible. However, strictly enforcing this could result in slower matchmaking for users who select popular characters, so we will not apply it too strictly.
  • [Smart Ping] feature will be added. A Smart Ping feature that enables tactical communication will be added. This is expected to improve party combat effectiveness and survival rates by enabling more precise communication.
  • [Usernames] will be restored. Usernames, which were replaced with character names due to Teaming issues in Solos Mode, will be restored.
  • [Party Recruitment] feature will be added. We are preparing a feature that allows you to easily recruit party members and join parties in the Lobby. We are aware that pre-made parties may have an easier time winning than parties resulting from random matchmaking. There are various ways to address this issue, but separating pre-made parties and random parties in matchmaking could significantly increase matchmaking times, making it a risky approach to implement at this time. Instead, we will be trying to address this problem by making it easier for users with similar regions and MMR to form parties. We will provide more details on the solution for pre-made parties in a future edition of the ASURAJANG Dev Notes.

Next, we will give a brief overview of the Arena Mode that will be added after the end of Season 0.

Arena Mode will consist of a Solos Mode and Trios Mode. Arena - Trios Mode is a 3v3 team fight mode that takes place over five rounds, with the first team to win three rounds securing the final victory. The early rounds are 3v3 team fights, while the later rounds are 1v1 tag team battles. Players in each team are not allowed to choose the same character, and they will choose characters in order of the lowest MMR. The reason the gameplay changes as the rounds progress is to add more strategic depth in terms of decision-making. Players will need to decide whether to optimize their team composition for 3v3 battles, mix characters that excel in 1v1 duels, or counter the characters selected by the opposing team, among other strategic choices. Arena - Solos Mode is a 1v1 duel game mode that consists of three rounds, with the first player to win two rounds securing the final victory. All three rounds are 1v1 duels, where players select two characters which are played in a tag team format. A key feature is the ability to tag in and tag out characters at set intervals. Victory is determined solely by individual skill, and we anticipate the emergence of various character combinations, mind games, tag-based combos, and counter-strats.

Finally, we would like to inform you that as of May 30, we have decided to part ways with our Japanese publisher GOP's Pmang, as well as DMM and Hange, which had been providing channeling services.

Going forward, processes such as scheduling discussions with the publisher and game update review processes will be eliminated, allowing us to make faster decisions and provide content updates more promptly. To accommodate for this change, we plan to support the migration of Pmang platform users to Steam. Following the complete termination of service on May 30, we will hold an event where Transparent Weapons, previously available only to pre-registered Japanese players, will be distributed for free to all partcipating users at an appropriate time. This concludes the second edition of ASURAJANG Dev Notes. In the next developer's note, we will share more details about Season 1 and the New Characters that are currently in development. Thank you.
