Devlog #5 - Solar Storm Cataclysm
Solar Storm is one of the cataclysms available in Planetiles. A cataclysm is the event that makes your journey through the stars a bit harder and occurs frequently - with every 500 points you get to choose 1 pair of 'buffs' and 'nerfs' - however this 500 points threshold can be affected by different features. Once Solar Storm hits, satellites and structures are affected with electric discharge, structures features being turned off for the duration of the cataclysm. Just as with every other cataclysm, the Solar Storm is affected by techonologies (perks) that can shorten its time, making it less destructive to structures.
There are a couple of ways you can deal with Solar Storms - the easiest one is to choose Solar Storm to occur in the earliest stage of your run. At the beginning, you have almost no structures available so the effect of the cataclysm is greatly reduced. Later on, things get tricky as you're maximising the score and count every tile twice. If Solar Storms occurs around the time you have <10 tiles available, you can be almost certain that no more points will be earned due to the structures features being unavailable.

Hi everyone First of all, we hope you had wonderful Christmas and 2024's Eve! Since Planetiles now entered its release year, we continue with the devlogs series to give you a better understanding of how our upcoming tile-based citybuilder works. We already showcased first cataclysm type - Volcano Eruption, that you can learn more about here.

Planetiles is a serene city builder with roguelike elements. Create natural habitats on remote planets as you satisfy quests and earn bonuses with strategically placed ecosystems.
Craft habitats on varying planets sizes with strategic tile placement that earns you bonuses and unlockables, such as tile skins and customization options. Shaping a forest consisting of a specified number of fields or constructing a distinct feature like an oasis will give you different benefits depending on your quests and game progression.
As the biomes you cultivate grow, so do your resources to build! Increase your reserve of tiles by completing missions that replenish your supplies so you can continue to expand across the worlds you shape through your choices.
The landscape reacts to your choices. Turn a few scraggly trees into a lush forest and create distinct biomes by placing tiles to satisfy quests and activate power ups. Three different planet sizes and no endgame mean you can move between planets and build and manipulate biomes to your heart’s desire.
Uncover special structures through your tile placement choices. These unique features allow for special actions, such as shuffling the next shapes or placing a unique object on the planet.
